I first start with Denoise. From Lightroom I drop the thumbnail of the image onto the Denoise icon on my dock. This allows me to use Denoise on the raw file. I then bring the DNG back into lightroom. If you export Denoise into using LR presets, you will be working on a tiff not the raw file.

I would then export into AI Sharpen making sure LR was doing no sharpening. Lastly I would use the Gigapixel program.

I enjoy focus stacking macro botanicals. It is one of my photographic joys. But it's a process. No single image that I can take SOC that will accomplish what I envision when I shot. From taking to printing, it's an integrated chain of actions to produce the image for me. Most of my time is spent place after the shutter is clicked.

I agree with E. L.'s analysis, several pages back, as to what's processed and what is not. I also agree with his basic philosophy. Your image, your decision. Go for it.

If I'm in a tourist area and someone or a group wants a cell phone picture then they aren't looking for portraiture, they're looking for a memory. I spend a minute or two and I always, always get a warm and grateful response. If I see a family and one parent is taking a photo of the family with a great background I'll offer to take the photo so they can all be in the picture. It's just common courtesy. It doesn't cost me anything and they have a photo to keep. I don't understand how that could be a problem. If they are asking for a professional service for free then that's a whole different issue and it can be educational to help them get over their sense of entitlement.

When I’ve been at the beach or at parks, I have been asked to take a cell phone pic on occasion. Usually, it’s been the sort of situation where the cellphone owner has already taken pictures of the family or companions and just wants to be included in one of the images…a snapshot for the memories… no investment of time. It always brought smile. It just seems like one of those small acts of kindness that i wish was more common. I never got the impression that someone was taking advantage or trying to get a professional freebie.

I have been asked to render free professional service in situations that involved using my gear and expending time. But that is another story and usually a very different result.

Greg, using the focus bracketing program in the camera, you will want to use set the lens to automatic focus so that it will focus through the subject. I manually set the position of the first shot a tad closer than the closest part of the subject that I want in focus because it is sometimes difficult to determine the exact closest part of a complex subject. It is easier to determine that on a computer screen in Lightroom afterwards and omit the first slice or two from the stack of nothing is in sharp focus.

Greg, so that I can more specifically address you concerns, I have several questions. Is the camera choosing a different focus point for the first image than you chose? Are you using the in camera focus bracketing from the Z7's menu? What problems have you encountered?

Greg, before I answer, I have a few questions that will help me address the specific problem you are facing.
Is the camera choosing a different point of focus to start the stacked than you chose?
How are you advancing focus? By manually turning the lens's focus ring? By using a program such as an internal focus bracketing program, or a device such as Camranger. Is focus controlled by the shutter button or do you back button focus. Is the lens set to autofucus or manual.

Glad you enjoy the camera. Its ability to focus on the eyes of birds, its low light performance, its automated focus stacking are just a few of the features that make it a fun camera to use. It increases my ability to get the shots I want. It is an amazing camera. Use in good health and enjoy.

I do not shoot enough video to pay the premium for this body. For my limited usage, the R5 is more than sufficient. I don't typically shoot 4k in high frame rates or in HQ mode or venture into 8k. So I would keep the R5. If I hooked up an Atomos external recorder, it would accomplish all I foreseeably need, even if I were to up my video content. As someone who is primarily a still photographer, the answer is clearly no. If I was primarily a videographer I would have to look at the full market (yes, including Sony) and see what was best suited my work.

My camera strap is attached to a small Arca style clamp. For longer lenses, I attach the strap to the Arca style plate on the tripod ring. For shorter lenses, I attached the strap to the L bracket on my camera. Taking the strap off and putting the camera on a tripod is a breeze. Everything works well with my Black Rapid strap but there are other brands that will work as well.

The problem with the posts of E. L Shapiro and Burkphoto is that they bring wisdom and experience to a namecalling session. Clearly inappropriate behavior.

With regard to the Canon R5 there are actually some comparative tests that have been performed.
Exhaustive Test Shows Battery Performance Differences in EOS R5

https://petapixel.com/2021/03/01/exhaustive-test-shows-battery-performance-differences-in-eos-r5/

One of the more curious findings is that all the that were batteries tested overstated their power, including Canon's. Second, there were differences that may come into play when you use certain power hungry functions, such as the frame per second rate of the mechanical shutter, but might not be noticed at all if the electronic shutter was used. Third, the Canon batteries had more power than the 3rd party batteries.

"“All NH batteries overstate their actual performance – even Canon’s,” Camnostic found. “The third-party versions all claim to have more juice than the Canon, and every one of them actually has less power. "

But as the article stated, you may not notice the difference depending on you usage. There article also did not explore the cost/performance comparison for each of the batteries

I could not find an equivalent article for Nikon or Sony

One can philosophize, and entomologize one's self to death to no avail. A PHOTOGRAHY is simply an image form with light's effect on some medium where it is an antiquated chemical process, a more current film emulsion or an electronic/digital imaging sensor.

Besides digital imaging safer, back in the old days of "mercuric fumes" they used to find lots of dead photographers slumped over their darkroom sinks.

I lie to judge photographs on criteria like their artistry, content, storytelling, impact, sentimentality, journalistic content, and technical savvy and excellence. Physics and chemistry are interesting but secondary.

Imaging technologies have changed and evolved. They are going to continue to do so. Just because a photographer does not salve over trays or tanks full of caustic, toxic, and dangerous chemics to create their images does not make them less of an artist or technician. Computer-driven technology may be more convenient but it requires just as many skill sets and artistic talent as the older methods. As long as I can produce prints with the same or better range, tones, paper surfaces and content, I have no reason to pine for the past.

I have many large prints hanging in my home- some that I produced 50 years ago. Yes- they may have a different look than my current output but things change, and we all should change along with them. If you are an old-timer in the darkroom, it's easy enough to apply all your aesthetical skill to modern techniques. Light is still light, contrast, tonality, composition, contrast control, image tome, range, and local controls like burning and dodging are all still at your disposal and easier to apply.

Come on y'all, put down the history books and the chemistry set and pick up your camera!

Agreed. I guess I had my tongue stuck too far in my cheek.

Can any digital image be considered a photograph? A picture, yes. An image, yes. But a photograph? I don’t know. No photographic film, no photographic paper, no photographic chemicals, Maybe I need get out my Olympus OM-1 to be able to take a photograph.

Can any film image be considered a photograph? A picture, yes. An image, yes. But a photograph? I don’t know. No silver-plated sheet of copper, sensitized with iodine vapors. No mercury fumes to develop the image. Maybe I need to make daguerreotypes to do real photography. I guess how you define the medium.

Since I never had a mac computer or laptop , I wasn't sure . I hope using the USB-C port will allow calibrating and then correct validation of the calibration . The Benq monitors I got also said to use a USB 3.0 to connect to the monitors .
Thanks for the info for MacBook , Tommy
