A lot of people have been discussing the merits of newer vs older camera designs and I thought I would share my first impression of the R5. I've been waiting to upgrade my 5Ds until I was convinced that the replacement would be the answer to all my dreams. After having decided that the exotic video overheating issue I've read about wasn't important to me I decided that it was time to upgrade. I normally go to Adorama, but I bought my R5 from Pictureline as they had it in stock (service was perfect BTW).
I wanted to up my birding photos and video game and the 5Ds while excellent for stationary birds often disappointed me with the best in flight shots being out of focus. Perhaps this is my deficiency, but I hoped the R5 would solve that for me (it is). Video on a DSLR is frustrating, and while I love my Rp, the stills don't give me the resolution for cropping I often want. Perhaps I'm in the honeymoon phase, but I have to say, this camera is a masterpiece. As a person who is used to Canon, it's extremely comfortable. My expectations were extremely high, but somehow it has managed to exceed them. As I've gotten most of the settings stored for the different type of shots I do, it let's me not have to concentrate on the technical operation of the camera so I can devote my mind to composition and communication.
Here are shots from the last couple of days that are straight out of the camera except for cropping in photoshop because I was so far away from the birds. Rusty (my best friend) and the hibiscus are not cropped.
The EOS R5 has changed how we think about mirrorless, how we think about photography, how we think about life.
Congratulations!
These, to me, are the result of a good camera and an excellent photographer. Is Rusty a Collie?

Not sure about the excellent photographer part because I still have a lot to learn, but thanks for the encouragement!
Yes, Rusty is our 3 year old 80lb Collie. I'm obviously biased but he is the most amazing dog ever. I like him even more than the camera :-)

I'm not ready to say it's a religious experience, but it's pretty close. I'll let you know how the video aspects go, but I am glad you challenged me in a previous post to renew my investigation of the R5. It is helping me get better shots already right out of the box.
Beautiful set! You make the camera look good.

Excellent and beautiful 💎💎💎💎💎
Glad you enjoy the camera. Its ability to focus on the eyes of birds, its low light performance, its automated focus stacking are just a few of the features that make it a fun camera to use. It increases my ability to get the shots I want. It is an amazing camera. Use in good health and enjoy.

Agreed! I recently changed to the Canon EOS R5 and am loving it! I still have a lot to learn but the camera's capabilities are phenomenal.
Good luck and thanks for your post!
Beautiful images - looks like you and the R5 are going to be great friends!
