@russelray; I have a feeling the tickets will be as expensive in Pomona as they were In Ogden.

To all of you in Southern California who are as interested in the Big Boy locomotive 4014 as I am, the Union Pacific Steam Schedule has announced that 4014 is scheduled to be in Southern California on a special steam powered passenger excursion on October 12 & 13 2019. As I wish to see it again I will probably be somewhere in the Pomona area on those days.

I would recommend Arcosanti, Jerome, Tuzigoot, south of Flagstaff and in the Sedona area. Then drive east on I 40 to Petrified Forest, Painted Desert, Canyon De Chelly. All the second bunch are east of Flagstaff. Then you can go north to the Vermillion Cliffs, Bryce Canyon In Utah. Then north east to Moab and Canyonlands, Islands in the Sky, Arches National Parks/Monuments.
These places should only take 2 weeks to see.😁 In all seriousness, these are places that I have been to and tend to revisit every 3 or 4 years. Also, the North Rim will be open for visitors now.

As far as equipment, I would take the D750 with the 10-24, 28-300, & the 150-600. I have a D610 and usually take my 17-35, 28-300, & my 200-500. I also have a 50mm f1.8 that gets put in my pocket although it doesn't get used outside at all.

Considering that locomotive is over 50 years old it is not in real bad shape.

I sometimes shoot without my glasses - I'm far-sighted, so when I do, can't really see what is in focus and what isn't. On my Sony (not sure what you have), I can set the focus area to wide, normal or spot and have generally (but not always) found that spot works best for me- I can see the focus square in the VF and generally lock it on to my subject. If shooting moving subjects (kids, dogs, sports), the better choice is wide - once you lock on, it keeps the subject in focus, where ever it is in the frame. The Sony also has face detection and eye AF which help if you're shooting people / portraits. Suggest you try different combinations on your camera to see what works best for you.

Why don't you set the diopter adjustment to your eye? It makes the viewfinder as sharp as if you had on your glasses.

If that is what you are worried about, use the old cloths to clean your car. They work good for applying wax.

I am Looking at purchasing a telephoto lens and am trying to narrow down my choices. The two top are the AFP Nikon 70 to 300 4.5 5.6 E ED VR FX or the new Tamron 100 to 400. Is the Tamron too new to get true feedback? The reviews on line seem to comfirm that both are decent lens for their price range. I have a trip planned for the end of this month and will need some reach with hand held. And, using my D500 for wildlife, etc.

Not sure what you will be shooting, but neither will be long enough when you look at the photos after you have downloaded them. I have the 200-500 Nikon on a D7100 and still need to crop to get decent shots.

I have a 2015 iMac running High Sierra. I currently have two Seagate back up drives: A 2TB that is used by Time Machine to back up my system. The second is a 1TB Seagate drive that I use to back up PS Elements and Family Tree Maker and other misc. uses. My pictures folder on the iMac is 342GB.

I just purchased a 6TB (2x3TB) Western Digital My Book USB3 drive. My purpose was to move my photos off of my iMac to the Western Digital and do all my editing from that drive. I have two choices, to set it up as Raid 0 for greater speed and storage, or Raid 1 for less storage, a little less speed, but achieving redundancy.

I use Elements 18 and ON1 2017 for photo editing.

I'm looking for opinions as to the best way to set up the new WD drive.

Raid 1 is the ONLY way to set it up. Anything else and it's like flushing money down your toilet.

You forgot KEH. I have bought from all of the above and from KEH and have been quite satisfied. Amazon is not for cameras or lenses though. I have also found a few good deals on ebay, mostly from Robert's Camera ebay store.

Anthony Morganti's LR tips on facebook are quite good. On the printed side, most comprehensive LR book is Marin Evening's.

His(Anthony Morganti) you tube videos are good as well.

You are exactly correct. Because the technical part is easy to master. To take a photo that others keep wanting to look at is extremely hard for most people. You either born with the eye or not. Most of us will never have the skills to take award winners just like most of us will never play in the nfl, nba, nhl, etc...

The one thing I have noticed about most professional athletes is that they can't string two coherent sentences together. I think I can do that so I am not eligible to be a professional athlete.
