If you use Lightroom, Blurb is the easiest to use and has excellent quality. I've done several Blurb books, beautiful books and excellent quality. I have not price-compared, so I can't really help you on that part. One thing I love about using Blurb is it is so easy to upload the photos you want to use directly from my Lightroom library, and they are the original file sizes so versatile to use in whatever layout you choose. When I used other book companies, sometimes the file size of my chosen photo would not be large enough for a full-page or double-spread layout then I'd have to go back and find the photo in Lightroom and re-export it in a larger size. When I use Blurb, the photos come directly from Lightroom and are always the appropriate pixel size.

I also have a D7100 as well as 2 D500s. The D7100 has become my back-up, but it's a great camera. One thing you should be aware of...the D500 does not have a pop-up flash like the D7100 does. I seldom use flash, but occasionally it comes in handy when I want to grab my camera for a quick, unplanned shot indoors. The D500 has a hot shoe mount for a flash, but no pop-up flash. Just wanted you to be aware of that difference.

I have the 18-300 on my D500 most of the time...I love its versatility! It's my walk-around, go-to lens for anything outside. Takes great photos too of my everyday subjects! I have probably 8 Nikkor lenses and this one has taken more photos than any of the others. Highly recommend it for an all-purpose lens!

We are also going there the very end of September...doing Iceland's west coast and then on to East Greenland with Lindblad Expeditions on a National Geographic boat. We are really hoping to see the northern lights too...nice to hear that many of you who were there in September got to experience them. I'm enjoying everyone's comments!

You have plenty of suggestions already, but I cannot believe that the boat ride and tour of Fort Sumpter is not on every list!

Our B&B hostess told us it was a must! So it's already on our list. Glad to know it's a good one...thanks!

October is a perfect time to visit Charleston!

Walking Tour or Carriage/Bus Tour (start at the Visitors' Center on Meeting Street) Note: Each carriage tour only covers one quadrant (to eliminate traffic congestion) of the city; not sure if the bus tours have to comply with the same tour rules

Civil War: Fort Sumter National Monument, Liberty Square Visitor Education Center, Fort Moultrie, the H.L. Hunley, Warren Lasch Conservation Center, Charleston Museum, Fort Lamar Heritage Preserve, Confederate Museum, Citadel Museum, The Battery, Aiken-Rhett Mansion, City Hall

Rainbow Row; City Market

Avery Research Center Bull Street

Unitarian Church Cemetery (a must-see IMHO)

St. Philip's Anglican Church

Middleton Plantation (best and oldest), Boone (most well-known), Magnolia (best wildlife), Drayton Hall (best preserved)

Patriots' Point and the USS Yorktown, Vietnam Museum

Walk over the Ravenal Bridge

Shem Creek (Restaurants: Waters' Edge, Vicery's, Tavern and Table, The Wreck)

Birds of Prey Awendaw (check website for hours)

Sullivan's Island (Beach): Restaurants: The Obstinate Daughter, Poe's Tavern

Charleston Tea Plantation (most unusual) (only one in NA) Wadmalaw Island

Joe Riley Waterfront Park (pineapple fountain)

St. Michael's Church

Angel Oak Johns Island

Mt. Pleasant Restaurants: The Pickled Palate, Page's Okra Grill, Five Loaves Cafe, Red Drum

Charleston Restaurants: Fleet Landing, Five Loaves Cafe, Halls Chop House, Fig (reservations), Husk (reservations), Rue de Jean (near Visitors' Center), Grill 225 (rooftop); Mason's on N. Market Street (lobster rolls), Gaulart & Maliclet (Broad Street), Rappahannock Oyster House. The Vendue (rooftop) I personally did not like Hymans Seafood Restaurant...touristy, you'll like it if you like being herded; my entree was not that great

34 West Theater (live performances)

Isle of Palms (beach, restaurant The Boat House)

You can take the water taxi from Patriots' Point to Charleston

"Only in South Carolina" (website) frequently features sites/restaurants in Charleston and the environs

Oh, wow...THANKS so much!!! I look at the Charleston websites and it's just overwhelming...so great to have personal recommendations/thoughts to help weed through things. Thanks for taking the time to make me such an extensive list. I don't think 4 nights is going to be long enough! :) Have a wonderful weekend!

Eighteen miles out of Charleston with this recommendation.

Hymans has great seafood but most restaurants in the area are great for seafood unless they are specialized in BBQ

Making me hungry already! Any of these specialize in fresh seafood? Being from Indiana, that is a big treat for us!

Catch the East Battery at sunrise. As the sun rises over the bay, then turn around and watch the mansions light up.

Gardens and garden gates throughout the Historic District make for great pics.

Don’t forget to make your way to one of the many marsh areas for all sorts of opportunities.

Rooftop bars are great u to o capture some cool sunset pics.

Enjoy Charleston! We live in Hilton Head about 70 miles south and frequent Charleston

I especially appreciate these specifics from someone who knows the city! Great ideas! Any particular marsh area especially great for birding? My first love is wildlife photography....

My husband and I are traveling to Charleston in early October, staying 4 nights in a B&B in the historic district. This is our first time in Charleston...what are some must-sees/dos and unique experiences? Best plantation to visit? Best nearby beach (can't get this close to the ocean without some beach time!)? Best restaurants? Not into wines, shopping, or bus tours at all. Please give me your best suggestions. Thanks in advance, Fellow Hoggers!

Nice shots in a very challenging environment. I have 6 grandchildren playing in young leagues like that and it's tough...lighting not great, seating not great, and so much going on in the background. But you are capturing the moment and situation, not going for a Sports Illustrated cover, right? :) I think your shots are great and I know much appreciated by the athlete and his parents! And so much better than anyone else is trying to take with their iPhones... :)

I keep having ads for a small lighting gadget called Lume Cube pop up in my Facebook feed. Of course, when I checked the website out now I'm seeing the ads even more often! :) I am intrigued and thinking about purchasing one...anyone here have one and can give a little insight???
