Does Lightoom 5 support live view mode. I have a Nikon 7100 and using Lightroom to tether. It doesn't won't work in Live View. Am I doing something wrong or does the program just not accommodate Live View. Anybody?

I've search the forum and found references to three supposdly "free" recovery programs, but all required a payment of around $40 after doing the scan. Since this set of pictures is not all that important, I'm choosing to search for a "truelly free" recovery program. Is anyone aware of one? BTW, the supposedly free ones were RECUVA, Image Rescue 3 and Undelete Plus.

Thanks for your help.

I don't know where you downloaded said programs, but 'Recuva' from Download.com IS TOTALLY FREE.

Thanks for your taking the trouble to explain what works for you. Maybe it's a little better to know you have something that warns you it's about to fail. I am grateful for the education.
For me it's daunting to consider the fragility of this medium when I recall the relative stability of the negative. Very scary.

Which is why wedding photographers point out that ONLY a print is viewable without hardware and for millenia to come.

I just returned from a photo safari in Botswana. It seemed I was going thru a lot of batteries. I was just wondering: is it better turn the camera off it you don't have the next shot in the viewfinder or just to leave it on during a photo shoot that might last a couple of hours. Hoggers seem to be quite articulate on all subjects photographic. Thanks in advance for any ideas in this area.

Do you have a P&S that uses disposable batteries?

Did you buy fresh, name brand ones BEFORE you went overseas?
Or did you buy them there?

Can you turn OFF the back of the camera monitor? While leaving the camera on?

Was it really hot where you were? Batteries don't like heat.

That's a bummer. I just called and they said no personal items are allowed on the glass. No phones, cameras, back packs, hand bags etc. They provide a locked receptacle at no charge for these items. Has anyone been, is it worth it?

That's because it's run by the 'natives' and they want maximum bucks for minimum deliverables. It's a time limited experience.

Save your money and go to the National Park. Maybe take the train from Williams.

You are missing the point of LR's catalog. But to each his/her own. I did the same and found it to be completely inefficient.

I'm not 'missing' it, I just choose to ignore it, as I haven't found a need to cross reference EVERY image I've ever made.
And I already HAD a filing system setup.

OK, don't everyone laugh, but I still use Picasa as my organizer, partly because I've had it since well before I got LR, and it's integrated with my web albums and email.

Keep lots of bottled water with you, especially if you are visiting the lower desert. (Sedona, Phoenix, Tucson, etc.) The humidity is so low, you dehydrate very quickly.

Actually, the Rangers have done such a good job of harping on the 'keep hydrated' message, they're now finding people that have drunk so much water that their electrolytes are too low.
Water poisoning, or water intoxication.

This is much easier to do than all the replies so far.

After you finish editing the pictures click on "go back to library" Then above all the pictures you are editing you will see an icon looking like a floppy disc. Click on that icon and your editing will be saved so when you burn to CD the resulting CD will have all your final work.

Not 'all'. This was exactly what *I* suggested a number of replies ago.

After reading the article, I agree.

I've been there at least 15 times.
It's always different and always magical.

PSP 6 is an outstanding program that a lot of Hoggers don't have much of an idea of the power it has. If you are proficient with PSP 6, I am not sure how much better lightroom is as I am not that familiar with lightroom. It would have to be significantly better than PSP 6 for me to spend all the time to learn a new program. I did a trial of lightroom 4 when it came out and I was too confused with it to go for very long. Deleted it and went back to my PSP. PSP does not force you into a specific cataloging program like lightroom does with importing, exporting, and cataloging. Extremely confusing to me. But, that may be only for me because I am simple minded to start with and I understand hard drive structure. I want to know exactly where I put my images. The organizer in PSP suits me just fine. And, post processing capabilities are very good. PSP 6 uses the same plugins from Topaz, Redfield, NIK, etc as Photoshop and probably lightroom does. I apologize for the rant, but I get a little disturbed that so many people believe that lightroom is the one and only decent program for photo post processing.

It's not necessary to USE the 'organizing' capabilities of LR.

I don't. I build a new catalog for each event/client.

But, for those that want to be able to do advanced searches by keyword/tags, dates, cameras, lenses, etc, then LR cataloging is for you.

PLUS, you get the premier image 'adjusting' software.

AND you get that and PSCC for $10 a month.

It's best practice to turn the camera off for those things. If you forget it may not matter at all or it may result in inconvenience. I have had my camera get "confused" when I swapped lenses with the power on, requiring a power cycle to rectify it. The speed light might fire if it is turned on when mounted/remove it. Memory can be corrupted when installed/removed "hot". It's a numbers game, it's rare but it can happen.

Thus "best practice" is to turn the power off for those things.

I, also, have had to cycle the power after changing a lens 'cuz the camera got 'confused'.

I think spinning props make the image look real. Some people like to freeze them. Stand or park a safe distance from a highway and practice panning with the traffic and see how that works. Experiment with ISO, shutter, and aperture. Unfortunately, unless someone drives past with a 1950's Crosley, you won't see any spinning propellers.

Doesn't sound like a good deal. For $10, Adobe will give you PS and LR. Flickr is free, as is Google+ (formerly Picasa Albums).

And included with that $10 PS/LR combo, you get online storage/sharing from Adobe.

It's associated with another forum I happen to belong to.
I'm not permitted to put the name of it into a message, or I will be suspended per Admin.

Unless you're into their contests, don't bother.

I was handed two moo.com cards last year. They are very distinctive, but quite expensive. When I looked up the prices, I felt bad that I accepted two (with different photos).

$80 for 200 cards?
I can get 5000 delivered (that's right, five thousand) for less at VistaPrint.
Or 1500 with the 'Brilliant Finish' (glossy paper).
