Although this topic has been covered before, I have not found anything on it on UHH since 2013. Obviously things will have changed since then.

I will be travelling abroad and would prefer not to take my laptop just to copy/backup my SD card from my Canon DSLR. I still want to download my pictures daily in case of camera loss/problems. I will have an iPad and an Android phone, plus good WiFi wherever I am staying. First prize would be to back up to the Cloud, second to back up to a standard portable HDD I'd take with me.

All constructive suggestions will be welcome. Thanks.

As I live in South Africa's Eastern Cape, I was delighted to read about this poetic justice. Poachers deserve all that is coming to them.

I just hope that tasting human flesh does not make the lions more dangerous to humans, so that they have to be put down.

Answer, yes they can, but first simply check your current monitor settings. You may have accidentially changed it.....
This was my first thought, as if the graphics card is not set to the native resolution of the monitor it will look fuzzy. I had a different problem. When I changed to to Windows 10, AMD no longer updated the drivers for my 10 year old graphics card so the card not be set to match the monitor resolution or refresh rate of my new monitor. I ended up replacing my computer box, as it was not worth trying to replace the graphics card. That turned out to be a great move, as the new computer is extremely fast compared with the old one.

Speaking as a person living in Africa, I feel that USD 10 per day is a very nice sum for someone in Kenya. I am sure your guide was extremely pleased with this amount.

Some crazy stuff, for sure. Just don't think they needed to include the Air France fireball at the end, where there must have been many fatalities.

I agree. Amazingly, there were only three deaths, although that is three too many.

I have always said that the Japanese ruined the weekends of millions of British motorcyclists and car drives by making non-leaking, non-breaking down vehicles. The owners no longer had anything to do during the weekend!

And there we were, sorry for you for having dreadful Easter weather! It obviously missed Cumbria, one of the loveliest parts of England. Thanks for the great pictures of a great place.

Right click on the desktop, then click new, then click folder. Give it a name and you're all done.

That will only put a new folder on the desktop, but you will usually want to put the folder somewhere else. Open Windows Explorer, find the directory off which you want to put the new folder, right click on it and select New then Folder. Name the folder, job done.

The lion and the cheetah are reasonably easy to spot. The leopard is not - it is renowned for hiding away. You were lucky with this one, and you got a great shot of it (and the others are, too).

Try reading Bill Bryson's book 'Mother Tongue'. Fascinating look into where English came from.

Why does England have the Royal Mail but deliver post, whereas America has the Postal Service which delivers mail? Weird!

I can't uninstall Elements I tried but Adobe said that if I do I can't re-install on my laptop so I stopped that.
To uninstall Elements so you can use it on another computer, in Elements Editor (not Organiser) go to Help/Deactivate. See https://helpx.adobe.com/x-productkb/policy.../activate-deactivate-products.html

Convert each non-PDF to a PDF. Then using Preview you'll be able to combine all into one. You can even rearrange the order after they're combined. This assumes that you're doing this on a Mac.
On a PC, I use Icecream PDF Split and Merge. Works well for me, and it is free.

Try compatibility mode as mainshipper suggested. Just right click on the program select compatibility and select the software you were using ie windows 8.1. It doesn't always work but it's worth a try.
I run a 2009, free for non-commercial use, CAD program that only runs on XP. I have installed it in Win 7 and Win 10 in compatibility mode and it runs very well. These are the notes I made when I installed in Win 7, but the same process works on Win 10 (note this is for a downloaded file - with Photoshop from a disc, Step 1 will not apply, and Step 2 will start with right clicking on the installation file on the disc):

Install ProgeCAD 2009 Smart on Win7 Home Premium
NB. This must be done in Administrator mode, not in a limited user account.
1 Save the ProgCAD 2009 Smart download file to your desktop.
2 Right Click on the file once download is completed.
A Select "Troubleshoot Compatibility"
B A Wizard will launch, Select "Troubleshoot Program" (manual troubleshooting ignoring recommended settings option)
C Select "The program worked in an earlier version of Windows but won't install or run now"
D Select "Windows XP (Service Pack 3)"
E Click "NEXT"
F DO NOT use the "Start Program" button that appears in the wizard
G Instead grab the top bar of the wizard window and drag it out of the way off to the side left open.
3 Right Click on the downloaded install program on your desktop
A Select “Run as Administrator”
B The main program will now successfully install on your system with two exceptions
a Error message about unsuccessful install of .jpg printer
b Error message about unsuccessful install of .pdf printer
4 Once install has been successfully completed then close the compatibility wizard you dragged off to the side by clicking on the red close box in the upper right hand corner NOT the “Next” or “Cancel” buttons.

Hopefully Photoshop will now run.

That is why, although I carry a laptop when travelling to download my photos, I do very little editing on it. Most laptops only have a Twisted Nematic (TN) display which has a very poor viewing angle, particularly in the vertical plane. They are also rather dull compared with a decent monitor. Better (read expensive) laptops and monitors have In-plane Switching (IPS) displays which are brighter and have a better viewing angle. Unfortunately I cannot justify the cost of one.

When I do need to process a file on the laptop (I shoot only in RAW), I do the following:

* put the laptop on a table and sit on a chair so my eyes are in a fixed position wrt to the display. It is useless to have it on my lap as my eyes move wrt to the screen;
* display a photograph which I know is well processed (at least to me);
* adjust the laptop screen angle and, if necessary, brightness until that photo looks right;
* do my processing.

Even then, I usually end up re-doing the RAW image when I get home.

If you use the laptop for all processing, then I suggest you buy a decent stand-alone monitor to plug into it.

No thanks. When the engine stops, an aeroplane will glide, a helicopter will autorotate, but a drone falls straight down at ever increasing speed.
