[quote=Silvermeteor]I have a T3i with a EFS 55-250mm 1:4.5-5.6 IS STM lens.

With your camera T3i at 400 ISO you are also pushing the limit on Noise.
Fill flash anyone???
Craig
PS: I use Topaz Detail3 with really good results. You have Small, Medium and Large toggles along with other parameters to get really accurate results.

Since I didn't do any cropping, or any PP for that matter, to these posted photos the focus point is dead center of each photo. I should have mentioned in the original post that no cropping was done.

Thank you Jim.
I usually see much better color in my Tamron 150-600mm, like the ones the Sigma Lens took. And great low light abilities.
But that's just my Lens I guess.
I use a Tamron 2x TC and get good snappy focus even in low light.

w/ 2x TC & Cropped to about 50% of Original

I took a few photos out the back door with my new lens today. I did notice a couple of things. The length ring on the Sigma is much tighter than the Tamron, and in my opinion it turns in the right direction instead of backwards like the Tamron.

The second thing I noticed is that the Sigma focus is much quick. Below are some pictures taken with both the Tamron and the Sigma lenses.

All photos were taken at the same setting using a Canon 7D2 camera, on a tripod. Six photos in total, Sigma followed by the Tamron photo.

I'm seeing better color in the Sigma in all shots but the sharpness is a push.
#1 Sigma seems better, hard to find the focus point in either shot.
#2 Tamron has better focus on the nail in the upright post. This is the only one I think I can find the focus point the nail?
#3 Again focus points elude me and with foreground branches out of focus. But Sigma seems better.

So far it looks like the Sigma is winning. The truth will be when I get to take some photos with it. Hopefully I can shoot with it tomorrow, but if not I will shoot with it Friday.

Sorry did not seed the posted photos. Thank you
Are you going to shoot identical shots and settings with both Lenses, on the same camera on a tripod???

Wow!

And moons?

YES, to get contrast of Jupiter and 4 Moons is a feat.
Good job Jim.

I have no experience with RegiStax, I have the App. So I'm no help. Please post and explain the process???

Comets still very visible. It's moving along but its still a nice little fuzz ball. Had off and on clouds last night and interfered with finding it, much less trying to shoot it.
Maybe tomorrow night. We are supposed to be clearing for the weekend.

I am going to try tonight, clear skies are here. My new (used) camera Nikon D800E has not arrived yet and I hate to use my D600 when I know I'm going to sell it but time to shoot the Comet is fading fast. So I'll be careful.

Well number 1 is Luna or better known as the moon. I think #2 is what you were asking about. Hard to tell without opening my planetarium software and without knowing the time or exact area of sky shooting, but probably M42 or the great Nebula in Orion.
If that was Orion, Lovejoy would have been a little bit further to the west with the belt of Orion pointing pretty close to where it can be found.
Clear Skies, Matthew

I agree 98% Great Orion Nebula on #2 shot. And nice shot of the Moon.

This is cute. Canon sells a lot because they have marketed mostly to the casual snapshooter who used to buy a point and shoot, but now can brag that "I have a Canon DSLR" just like the big boys. You can buy a Canon T3i with a lens for under $400. That's less than some P&S cameras. Now you can say "I'm a photographer" instead of "I take pictures."

Nikon users take photographs. Canon users take snapshots. :P :XD: :XD:

I have B&W in my bag for when conditions demand it (surf, wind, rain), but other than that, I shoot with bare naked lenses.

It's the same for me too.

In the classifieds why is it nearly always Canon for sale and seldom Nikon?
The answer is obvious, if you have a Nikon you are not going to get rid of it.
I await the insults.

Canon likes to put their disposable cash into advertising where Sony and Nikon put theirs into R&R.
So Canon gets a lot of impulse buyers and Nikon and Sony get the research buyers.
A lot of impulse buyers regret their purchase because they're in over their heads and and want to get out from under it.
Research buyers stick with it until they're ready to move up.

OK. After reading APeeR's posting on stacking using the focus ring, I decided to give it a spin.
Doesn't this take a lot of concentration to do this with the focus ring???

Well, I took it to mean that the softbox was hand-held-- but not the camera. Still very nice results.
Oh well you had me totally thrilled for a moment to do 1mm increments handheld :P :P
