Nice shot AT. Amazing how repulsing a little critter like that can be.

Looks good Craig! Getting clear skies, finding it and shooting it are all challenges. I'm assuming that was unguided, right?

Thank you Mike, my Nikon D600 and Tamron 150-600mm Lens was guided for 30 sec. by my inexpensive NexStar DS 2114 drive with a homemade bracket.
Sat night I hope to get a fix on the Comet Lovejoy with my Meade 8" Telescope used as a Prime Focus.

This 1,267 acre wilderness area, in Polk County, is home to large numbers of various wildlife.

Originally, this was a wet area connected to Lake Hancock. From 1927 and for the next 70 years, this land was drained to make the land more suitable for cattle ranching.

In 2000. the property was purchased by Polk County and the Southwest Florida Water Management District to restore the main wetland known as Banana Creek Marsh.

Since the acquisition, restoration of the marsh and upland is ongoing, creating habitat and providing food sources for thousands of resident and migrating birds and other wildlife.

If you are in or coming to Florida, I strongly recommend this as a great place to spend at least a day.

(Some of this description borrowed from Reserve literature)

I have many, many photos to share, but I will spread them out over several days Chapter One begins now. Hope you enjoy my work.

Did anyone answer you back on this RR?

To my way of thinking, the longer the exposure time, the less the ISO should be since you are letting more light in with the longer exposure (?) ... Anyone want to answer that?

In short Yes. I like to keep my ISO (Noise) down as far as I can.

I started acquiring the basic equipment in April bit with repeated RMA's for a faulty mount my first real image other than the lunar eclipse this spring, was in Sept. I now see the allure of being able to leave all equipment hooked up and aligned. Other than removing my Nikons everything stays in place. Took me three night to polar align to within a half of an arcsecond, might be a minute, 0.03 PA Error is what the hand controller says, which only gets me around 3.5-4min subs without trailing. Can get 5min subs but not all are kosher. I need to set up my guider so I can run the periodic error correction software and so I can learn it.

Yes I try to leave my drives set up and ready to use when it's not going to rain which it almost never does not any more in So Cal.
I think that is a great PA by the way. Your guider can handle that easily.
Good luck and keep the Images coming always enjoy your work.

Wow! I wouldn't care if it was grainy if I got that! LOL! Nicely done! Question... was that part of Orion's belt? 2nd question... I have a 150 - 500 lens... could I get something even close with mine?

Hi Clicker, Absolutely you could but I use a telescope drive motor for tracking long exposures. You would have to kick your ISO way up and use a shorter exposure. I assume you are talking about the Sigma 150-500mm f/5-6.3 AF APO? Start shooting at 10sec ISO 6400 f/6.3 450mm with tripod, mirror up and a remote release. Post Process it and see how much detail you can bring out and work with your ISO from there. The camera you have will make all the difference in the ISO quality. What I saw in your bull riding shot looks pretty good. Astro tends to be a lot of work but I love the results.

I have just joined in on this challenge and really like all the input from everyone! I am hoping to learn a lot as I have a rodeo to go to on Sunday afternoon (should be better than the night one shown below). I will probably use my 18 250 Sigma on my Canon 7D. Now...that said! I really like your comparison here Madman! I am assuming #1 was with the low ISO and longer shutter speed? Sure makes a difference! Nice comparison. I know I will have to go with high ISO because of the fast motion, but need to find how far I can go with my lens before I get too much noise. I also only have Elements 11 to get the noise out. What program do you use for editing? BTW.. since taking these in 2012 I am now shooting in RAW!

That shot cleaned up really nice and which one do you think is the best color for what you actually saw that day?

Hello Ihammer and UHH friends. Great subject and aren't we fortunate to use digital cameras where we can change the sensitivity of our electronic film in the middle of the roll. It's so cool to have cameras that now go up to such high ISOs with great results. Thanks for the subject. Best, J. Goffe

Great shooting f/stops what camera and lens do you use?
