save food container screw on caps , different sizes , if you r lucky , you find one that fit .on my older 800mm nikkor from the 80 s , the local chinese fast food boll fit perfect .easier to use then the original leather cap .

if all you want is to protect the front lens from dust, mist, or curious fingers, why not just get a shower cap? If you feel the need for a hard lens cap, then spend the money.

Yes, amazing accomplishment, and also a gigantic waste of money. Yes I know, it's his money. But think of the good this could have done with an actual technical space beneficial program, or even just using that money to feed real people.
Don

the only waste was that empty passenger seat; it could have held a Congressman!

Tamron 18-400 which replaced my previous "walk around" lens, a Tamron 18-270.

This part of CNP is about 70 miles south of Moab and 35 miles west of the main hwy. The 35 mile road to Needles is a good, two lane, maintained scenic drive although it has many dips and blind curves for about half the way. Along the way to Needles you pass "Newspaper Rock" which is well worth a stop. After this first part of the drive, the road straightens as you enter the Indian Creek Valley with their towering mesas highlighted by the "Six Shooter" mesas.

Beautiful pictures. I was there in 1978; looks like it hasn't changed in the past 40 years.

definitely southern Utah and northern Arizona is my favorite area, but throw in NM, AZ, UT, CO, WY, MT, NV, and KY, and most of my bases are covered.

Here is my picture of the snowy owl with a topographical shot showing the distance. The owl is the white dot in the middle of the interstate loop, while the photographers were standing at the green spot. No way to get the specific distance, but thought my pictures came out well for the distance involved. Oh, it was cold...about 10F and snowy!

You should be able to get a reasonably good idea of the distance by using Google maps.

I've never noticed that except for those where one leg becomes a monopod. I have seen a couple of cheaper ones with foam on only one leg, considered for carrying. The only reason I could think of doing it would be to save money.

Can you point to some that have it only on 2?

I have a Manfrotto that has foam covers on only 2 of the legs; came that way. Of course, the other leg has MANFROTTO on it in great big letters. Kinda like "Nike" on all kinds of clothing and shoes; you get to advertise for them for free!

[quote=G Brown]Taking the P..s,
Having a laugh at another person's expence.
It is a Northern UK (?) term for a bit of cheeky banter or 'wind up'.Ocaisionaly a drunk prelude to a fight when someone 'takes exception' to something said about them.
Why 'Micky' ? could be micky mouse...could be St Michel (judgement)...or micky spilane (dry assessment of a situation).generally sarcastic or humourous, depending on what is said, when, and to whome.

actually a derogatory term for the Irish [usually drunk Irish].

Back when I was a kid (about a millennium ago) there was a single talent (now called reality) show; The Ted Mack Amateur Hour. Now, at least in the US, we have the Voice, the return of America Idol, America’s Got Talent, some new show where wannabes challenge existing “artists”, So You Think You Can Dance, Jennifer Lopez’s dance challenge show, and I might have missed one or two. It’s overkill. There is some fantastic talent out there, but they getting lost in the noise.

cheaper than actually producing a real show with paid talent, writers, plots, etc.

after 10 pages of comments, if a person weren't totally confused about "crop factor" then, they are now. They had better just get a point-and-shoot camera with a fixed lens and be happy with whatever results they get!

it would be so much easier, and definitely a shorter list, to name places I've been to, and never want to return to.

two states I haven't been to: Hawaii and Alaska. Throw in Galapagos Islands and Machu Picchu for a start.

[quote=Brownie45]These stacked stone fences or stone walls are very common in the Bluegrass region of Kentucky. I have never seen fences like these anywhere else.

I've seen them occasionally in areas of Pennsylvania, but they are not near the same height or quality of construction of the stone fences in KY. Probably has to do with the shape of the stones and cost of the labor. Limestone in KY breaks along the strata into flatter stones, while PA sandstone occurs in bigger odd-shaped pieces. Slave labor in KY was probably pretty cheap in those days, too!

if you have a lens shade, use it; it's already paid for and costing you nothing.
