I have the old Pocket Wizards Plus II (at about $180 each a few years back) - manual only which means doing all the settings at the flash. Expensive but it was reliable and considered the best at the time.

I recently bought the Yongnuo flash controller (622 for Canon but they have it for Nikon too) where you can go TTL or Manual and control everything from the flash controller (power level, EV, zoom, and a couple more settings) - saves a lot of back and forth between camera and flashes. These are a lot cheaper than the new PW flex and mini. You can buy the controller and two remotes for the price of one PW Flex or Mini.

My two smaller cameras have built in Wi-Fi. They are hot spots for remote control and photo transfer only. The camera cannot get to the web since it is much like a wireless router. I downloaded the camera manufacturer's software on my phone and tablet which allows some remote control and image viewing.

I use Cam Ranger with a DSLR and basically it is the same thing. This allows wireless tethering using a smart phone, tablet, or laptop.

Just got back from Thailand carrying two bags (Tamrac and Lowepro) loaded with gear and a laptop - the big Tamrac bag was very heavy. After that trip I decided to buy a 1510 SC Pelican case to hold the gear because of the wheels and the extra protection (it is the largest that can be carried on). I will pack the Lowepro in a suitcase for daily photo trips when I do something like this again.

Add the battery icon on your taskbar to show what the status is such as % charged, charging, or running off the battery.

That way you can hover the mouse over the icon and see what the status is quickly. For example mine says: 97% available, plugged in, not charging.

Or you can use a voltmeter if you have one handy.

It sounds like you have an open in your AC adaptor though which can be mended with some cutters, a soldering iron, and some electrical tape; but the easiest method is to buy a replacement like jethro recommended. Amazon delivers fairly quickly if Best Buy is too far away.

You may want some motion but set your flash to sync with the second curtain (if I remember right).

The online manual says most of their flashes will work with the SX60 though.

I just bought the SX 60 last weekend and tried out the 580 EX II flash on it yesterday. The flash does seem very big to mount on the camera so I tried the remote controllers from Yongnuo (622) as an afterthought and that worked but only in manual mode (ETTL did not work at all but works on my 7D - weird?) Not sure if this helps any.

I should add that I experimented just a few minutes ago that on camera, both ETTL and manual work but not with the remote controls.

Beats my last air conditioning repair. Service call was $74 and the simple light switch swap out was $218 (about 100 times what it was worth). The tech took about 10 minutes after he got here to diagnose and replace the faulty switch. I wonder how he sleeps at night...

Thanks for the picture. Never saw it the only time we went to Amicalola Falls. Would love to get back up there one day.

There is an old car/truck at the bottom of Providence Canyon (below Columbus, GA) which is kind of cool with a tree growing through where the engine and hood should be. Don't go in the heat of summer though - it was 108 the day we visited.

I gave up on buying Lee's CPL when I was buying their holder, ND, GND, Big Stopper a couple of years ago because it was sold out everywhere. I finally paid more money for the slim Heliopan's 105mm CPL ($480 at B&H). I've encountered a couple of issues - Heliopan has a bind in the filter making it a little more difficult than it should be and Lee's holder pops off the lens without much effort when rotating the big CPL throwing hundreds of dollars into the wet grass or worse - a gritty field.

I want to add a flash to my Canon SX50. I have looked at the Canon Speedlight 270EX and the 90EX. Your suggestions will be of great value to me.

Look at this link where someone else went through the same issues you are looking at. I would get the Yongnuo 565 (Canon) or 568 and their 622 (again Canon) controller if you want to get it off the camera and not spend a lot of money.

I am trying to buy a kit for off camera flash,,,,
Any experiences with Youngnuo, neewer or altura?

Seems that those three have very competitive prices.
It is for a canon mark II 5d.

Also how does the transceiver work (both receiver and transmitter) or should I just buy the receiver and transmitter?

Any good kit out there that would you recommend?

Thank you!!

I just got a pair of Yongnuo 622C transceivers with the 622C-TX (controller) a couple of weeks ago and they work very nicely. I also bought the Yongnuo 565 EX-II flash. I was hoping to use my Canon 585 EX II in master mode to control my Canon 430 EX as a slave but the Yongnuo trigger puts the 585 back into an ordinary mode (no slave or master). So I bought another pair of transceivers and then a couple of days ago I ordered another Yongnuo flash (568 EX-II) which has HSS (doubt I would use this much). Tested them all and I can control power levels and ETTL as well. The 430 flash is manual mode only so I cannot control it with the remote. In ETTL mode, I can dial in EC from -3 to +3 in 1/3 increments but the values are not showing in the flash! Yet when I take a picture, the EC apparently works as I can see a decrease (or increase) in exposure. In manual mode you can see the values increase/decrease on the controller and the flash (not the 430). You can zoom the heads as well. The manuals are not that good but overall, they are fairly easy to program.

Of course if money is not an option a Camranger will work just fine, and has the added benefit of looking through the camera with a tablet or smart phone, and triggering it with that same phone/tablet.

I agree with the CamRanger - works great but it is a much costlier option ($300). I like controlling the camera with a smartphone (my old Samsung Note was too old but my new Note 4 can run CamRanger's software), tablet, or laptop and seeing the live view/images transferred too. Live view though does burn through batteries on the camera.

I've ordered several camera products and other products from Amazon over the years and most camera products (lenses, Gitzo tripod and monopod) came from Adorama which worked great year in, year out.

Then I ordered two Canon lenses and I tracked it from NJ to Atlanta (UPS delivery) and then saw it returned to the Adorama with no explanation. I finally saw on the UPS site that it was returned due to either a smudged label or missing label yet the tracking number is still there so wondered why UPS couldn't contact the vendor to find out the address. I guess you can't fix UPS with logic.

Anyway I sent a message to Adorama about the mix up and wondered when they would send it back to me. The reply I got back was that any returned merchandise would go back on the shelf and I would have to reorder. I said fine, I would order directly from someone else (B&H) with two day shipping instead of the cheaper 7 day or longer(again UPS).

The problem was getting my credit card charges dropped and Adorama was unresponsive to this so I took it up with Amazon. I had a little run around with them but they did get it fixed in a couple of days.

I can usually buy the same product as Home Depot or any chain store for the same price, no taxes or shipping charges (Prime Member), next day or two day shipping including Sunday and holiday (MLK). Beats driving to the mall to pick up a $20 product or to HD to buy 8 shoplights (most recent purchases from Amazon).
