Dave , your avatar looks much better and thanks for sharing your Nex 7 info. Are your long lenses ( 200-300 mm) not adding considerable weight and length which could possibly negate your rationale for the compact Nex 7 ? I am thinking of using the Nex 7 with one e-lens ( 18-210 ) for 80% of my shots. Would the marginal weight/length savings vs the A65 still be worth it ?
I plan on buying the Nex-7 w/ the 18~55mm that they bundle with the body for only another $150! That will be my hiking lens and default lens for that camera. I have a collection of Sony Alpha lenses that range from 12mm up to 300 f/2.8 and a matching 2X teleconverter!

I will also buy the αlpha NEX Camera Mount Adapter, Model Number: LA-EA2 ($400). This will let me use ALL my alpha lenses on the Nex with quick phase detection auto focus. Yes, many of my alpha lenses are big and heavy and I do not plan to use them on the Nex routinely.

The only anti-shake I will have on the Nex is when use the little bundled lens. The Nex does not have in-camera anti-shake like my big A900 does. Should I decide to attach the Nex to my 300+ lens, the lens will be supported by a tripod. Remember, the APS-C sized imaging array will give all my alpha lenses a 1.5X magnification! I will only be using the center sweet spot of all these full frame lenses and they should be tack sharp with zero vignetting!

I also have a collection very old full frame Konica lenses. These lenses are made of glass and metal and are very solid but not as big as you might think. They are manual focus. They range from 21mm to 300mm. One is 40mm and called a pancake lens because it's so thin. Another bigger one is 57mm f/1.2! When I put that guy on Nex and crank up the ISO, I expect to be able to work in very low light indeed.

I have a special lens that I plan on taking into football games on my Nex. The NFL limits the lens size that fans can bring to the game to six inches. I have a "Sigma/Konica 70-210mm f/4.5 one touch" that is just under six inches. This will be a near perfect lens to bring to the game. Yes, it weighs much more than the Nex body but the combination is not very heavy. The fixed f/4.5 on this lens will lets me crack up the shutter speed to 1/1000 stop action and I will not need anti-shake.

Sorry for rambling on so much, but you can see that the Nex-7 will give me many options.

BTW, I also have an alpha 500mm f/8 mirror lens that is six inches long but is a bit too powerful for games and too slow for stop action.

I have fallen in love with having my photos put on canvas. I have lots of art and esp. oil and acrylic paintings. About two years ago, I did one of my shots on a 30 X 24 canvas. People are always shocked that it is one of my photographs, it looks like an oil painting. Really beautiful. I love the texture it brings to the photos. Just wondering if anyone else is enjoying this new way to show photographs.
Happy Shooting!

Jean, I have been having a lot of my prints done that way through Costco. The 20 by 30 inch canvas wrapped prints cost $70. I have them all over my house. Where are you getting yours done and how much are you paying?

I'll work on replacing my Avatar soon. Thanks for bringing to my attention.
Here is a link to info on A65 and A77:

As for me, I'm looking for a small camera that will keep up, or "nearly" keep up with my A900. I have a huge collection of both Sony Alpha lenses and very old and wonderful Konica lenses. Sony makes adapters that will let me use my Alpha lenses in a very fast phase detection auto-focus mode. I have already ordered an inexpensive ($35) Konica-to-Nex adapter. I will buy the lens they bundle with the Nex-7 and that will the only little lens of that type I intend to buy.

The A77 and A65 are interesting and I considered them. The small size of the Nex and the flexibility of using any lens on it sold me on it. The same APSC imaging array is used on all three cameras.

Hope I helped.

I'm about to buy a Nex (made by Sony) They have many models depending on your budget and needs. These cameras can rival full frame in terms of resolution. Because I like view finders and already have many very good lenses, I plan on buying the Nex-7 (Big bucks). You might want the much less expensive Nex-5. It's worth your consideration. The Nex-7 will be be available in about a month. They are ramping up production and making adjustments to the firmware.

I have been told by a very good source that I trust that the "contrast peaking" focusing aid is wonderfully good. This makes manually focusing of third party lenses very easy. Optionally, you could buy the small light weight lenses with built-in anti-shake and auto-focus they offer.

I think what everyone is saying is because the moon is so far away it's next to impossible to get tree branches and the moon, both in sharp focus. As an artist you can draw such things or you can do it with software. My bird and moon above is a composite. I used a sharp picture of the moon then blurred it, so it looked more believable.

Sounds to me like you just learned some limits of the camera. That was your goal. Congratulations.

Can I create a photo of the moon and winter tree limbs both in focus or are such things only in paintings? Thanks, D
It can only be done in painting.

I'm retired and moved back to the Burg. I live in Eighty Four. I have never met anyone who regretted retiring.

I have an eye-fi mem stick and tried it on my Fuji HS20 and my Pentax Kr. It works fine but I quit using it because it is slow. If they could speed it up somehow I might be interested.

Ah ha! That's what I suspected. Thank you John339.

The specs for the Nex-7 state the memory options are:
Memory Stick Pro Duo
• SD/SDHC/SDXC

Eye Fi might be an option.

I suspect that uploads to my laptop computer will be too slow to be of any use, but I don't know. I'm very serious about buying a Nex-7 and have read that it's "Eye Fi compatible". I'm not sure what that really means.

I did not realize you did not have an aperture ring. I doubt that they will work on a Nex.

I own many very good Sony Alpha lenses that I use on my "Full Frame" FF Sony A900 camera. I also own a nice collection of wonderful old Konica lenses that I used on my 35mm film Konica camera. I plan on buying the Nex-7 when it becomes available in about a month. I believe all your lenses that work on FF camera, will work very well on a Nex body with an inexpensive ( aprox. $35) adapter. You will only have aperture priority, where you choose the f-stop on your lens and the camera will determine the shutter speed. While you will need to focus you lenses manually the camera will provide a wonderful focusing aid called "contrast peaking" that quickly and intuitively shows you where your lens is focused and depth of field can be seen. The Nex-5N will provide less noise at the higher ISOs, the Nex-7 will provide 24.3 MP and low noise at lower ISO. The Nex-7 will have more noise at the higher ISO end, but provides a way to drastically reduce the noise of static images by taking five images at a time and integrate the data to make a much more noise free image. Note: This will not work on an action photo.

I'm opting for the Nex-7 because it includes a built-in electronic view finder. I like holding my camera up to my eye, not at arms length like it was a baby with a dirty diaper. It's compatible with all my Sony flashes and has a hot shoe for them.

The Nex cameras use an APS-C sized imaging array that will use the best part of FF lenses.

I'm also going to buy a special $300 Sony made adapter for my Alpha lenses that will provide very fast "phase detection" auto focus on my Nex-7.

Good luck on what ever you decide to buy,
Dave

It has to be very old, It is huge , you really can not tell from the photos how big it is. It has initials carved in it all the way to the top so they had to have grown up there from the bottom ...
Trees grow from the top not the bottom, Someone climbed the tree to carve their initials up there. I once attached a basketball hoop to a tree and mistakenly place it about four inches too high. When people complained I would tell them the tree grew.

I'd like to see the setting the tree is in, if possible. Can you back away a little further? Than you for sharing.

Most MOST lenses! I made a typo, found it and fixed it. A "mast" lens must be a nautical term.

BTW, you are doing pretty darn good for someone who does not yet understand f-stops.

I would say you choose a perfect f-stop for the third photo of the little boy. His eyes are in perfect focus. The tips of his ears are just starting to go out of focus. The background is out of focus and does not distract from the face, a very nice portrait. I also like the lighting.
