Love the headshot and your vision... Did you darken the scene with high shutter and grid his face?

Yes, I was outside, set shutter at highest sync speed (1/250), and closed aperture until the photo was dark, then added a flash with umbrella for the face/helmet.

My stepson, the headshot may be the first photo I've ever taken that turned out just as I visualized :)

Can someone with the 80D confirm if functions are accessible without going via. the touchscreen. I have a lot of bother with touchscreens, don't know whether it's because I have a 'light' touch, or because my hands are always moisturised. Don't seem to be able to pin it down, sometimes moistening a fingertip helps others not, others I've almost felt like I'm punching the screen with no effect. I just don't seem to be able to activate them as easily as I'd like.

As already answered, yes, you can change functions without using the touchscreen. Not mentioned, however, is that you can also adjust the "sensitivity" of the touchscreen, so that may help you too.

Generally like the image. I would like to have the breasts somewhat more focused. You could do this by using a smaller aperture in combination with a lower shutter speed and/or a higher ISO. I think the focus on the vulva is good however, with the breasts still somewhat out of focus.
Every subject chosen provides an insight into the mind of the photographer. This means the viewer is interacting with the photographer.
When you took the photo, somewhere in your mind, there was some meaning to it. If not, you would have shot a different image. The viewer brings her/his own mind-state to this, for which you are not responsible.

True, I intentionally chose a shallow DOF for this shot as opposed to having everything in focus. I'm fine with hearing people's reactions (both good and bad) if they have specifics or helpful suggestions, but comments like "this is trash" or "why the weird pose" are not helpful. Thanks for your comments :)

Since this is a safe zone, I'm trying to look for a redeeming comment.

Or...just don't bother to post anything

Fair questions...I guess as someone just getting back into photography there was not that much "intent" in taking this shot, just playing with lighting, angles, DOF etc, as well as learning post processing on entirely new software (to me).

As a newcomer to UHH, I see an incredible number of harsh, nonconstructive comments about photos posted (not only in this topic but many others). In posting this, I'd ask that if you have constructive criticism please post it, but if you only have a derogatory comment with no suggestions for improvement, just move along to the next topic. Thanks :)

Thanks Rob, I guess I should have posted it first rather than the other.

I actually DID like it, quite a lot (maybe because it was my first time using the technique, but still...)

Could you post the original shot uncropped or was it the whole shot? I liked her mouth closed a bit more than the second shot.

Checking my pics, that wasn't cropped, I have some that are similar but it appears that was the original shot. I'll pay more attention next time.

My experience from photographing females, you never want to show the bottom of shoes. The pose is a little awkward, not sure what the theme is here. Are we suppose to notice the shoes or the model.

Thanks for the feedback, especially on the bottom of the shoe. The idea was to convert it to B/W except for the bright red shoe, as I had never done that and wanted to try the technique. I think it worked well for that, so I guess you could say the theme IS the shoe. I didn't post the B/W because I'm aware that technique is wildly overdone and anticipated a very negative reaction to it, so I just posted the orginal :)

I agree with the background, but like the foreground elements as the focal point...as I said, it's one of my first attempts and I'd do it different today, but still overall I like it. Thanks for the comments :)
