Hello all, I am a returning member to UHH and a few nights ago I noticed a bright object in the eastern sky, much brighter than a star. Got out my Nikon Bridge Camera and took the following pictures. I believe the ISO was set at 100 with 1/100 shutter speed, taken at full 42x zoom and cropped. No tripod, just rested my camera on top of a privacy fence. I am new to this type of photography. Can someone tell me what I've captured? Is it a nebula, Venus or what?

Gee Wiz, I have a whole bunch of photos just like yours. When I took them I thought I was taking a photo of a star,,,,,

Practice - practice - practice........

I'm still working on mine....

LOTS OF LUCK
KEEP AT IT

Walt,
Here is a copy of the e-mail I rec. today from Fotki. I guess I have only been using them for the last 15 yrs or so.

Dear Free Fotki member,

Unfortunately, we can no longer afford to provide free service to our Free members. In the past, we supported free membership by displaying ads but we are no longer doing that because of many complains that ads frequently mislead and disturb user experience.

In order to develop new functionality and provide a better service and experience, we need your love and support.

Also this month we celebrate our 17th birthday. And we are running a sale. This is a good chance for you to show your support. We have many affordable options for a memberhip. Starting as low as $1.60 per month (if you buy one year for $19.20) or even cheaper if you buy several years. You can check all plans and prices here.

Free accounts will be closed on October 1st, 2015.

Walt, br Here is a copy of the e-mail I rec. today... (show quote)

WOW that was a quick response.. Thanks---

I am now using Zenfolio and I have my own domain(which is at present dormant), but still paying for it. The Zenfolio is some what more costly than Fotki, I'm in no way a Pro just a guy trying to share my photo's on the net so family can also see.

Thanks again

I have been using Fotki for about 20 years. I guess free isn't forever. I have been playing with Photo Bucket for about 5 months. Seems harder since I am not use to it. Do you have a free favorite and why.
Thanks,
Ron

I looked at the Fotki web page and could not find anywhere that they charge a fee. I have never heard of this photo service and would like to find out more. Could you direct me to the link that shows that they will be charging a fee in the future. I'm also looking for a good and free web to display photo's.

THANKS

Sonny - James Thanks for the good words, It's better to sniff some smoke than to watch your home and all that you have worked for turn into smoke. We have had in the years past some close calls here, but never like whats going on in CA.

I just hope that the fires can be put down soon so no one else loses there homes.....

The time we spent at Joshua Tree, and the time-lapse sequences, as well as all my singles were on one 64GB SD Card.
(I never considered changing it. )

I hope to bring you the entire event, Phil. My pleasure.
And I think it would be fun...
We have a prediction of an 84% chance of success with the weather.

Sonny,

That 84% chance of good visibility for the eclipse include smoke??

Got up this morning looked out to check the weather, well if it weren't for the smoke I may be able to see the clouds.

HOLY SMOKES SONNY THAT IS A GREAT JOB ! ! ! !

Thanks for posting......I learn from all of you folks posts, not sure if the budget can keep up with the learning, but I'm working on that.

Some where I have a de-flickering program, it's a Microsoft program that's still in beta, but looks real good to me. I have just finished building a new computer that's still in beta it self, and in the process of transferring my data from the old machine to the new. Will look for the program when I return from town this afternoon. (town is a 150 miles round trip, well that is what you get for living out in the boonies. Like my old pappie used to say 'every pleasure has it's price') I will send you a link when I find it.

Thanks again Sonny and all of the rest of you for sharing.

..............................UPDATE...............

Like the Trump idea.

Think about it, most of the folks that I run across dis-like lawyers, but we just keep on electing them to run our country.

What we really need in Washington is a bunch of CEO's to run this country, let them hire a bunch of redneck lawyers as advisers, and fire them when they screw-up. Then we are not stuck with them forever and or term limits, no retirement or medical care to boot...

The first time that I transmitted any data using a computer was back in the mid/early 1980's, there was no browsers in those days and all data transfer was via FTP and phone lines. I transmitted a full copy of Borland C+ to my Son-in-Law who lived in Henderson NV, while I lived in Torrance CA. The transfer rate was at 300bod and took about 3 hrs, The phone Co. cried all the way to the bank it cost me so much... We were just trying to see if we could do it. Well it happened, we were happy...

I was using a Commodore 64 to send and he was receiving using a Tandy Radio Shack Computer, by the way I still have that Commodore 64 and am still using monitor to edit VSH tapes.

Thank You, Guys!

Hyperlapse... Holy Moly!
Almost where I want to go...
I want singles to emerge from the video of the individual Perseid Meteors found locked away in single frames.

(I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.... )
Maybe I live to close to Hollywood...

Hello again Sonny

I have several videos that I put together a few years back that do just what I think you are trying. In my videos I extracted certain frames as stills and then modified these frames as to angle of view and added sound. These special frames were then embedded back into the final movie. As of right now I do not know just where these videos are at, you see I,m in the process of re-building my computer room and the hard disk drives that contain the videos in question, are in a box somewhere in my home ? ? ? ? ? The software that I used is known as "Pinnacle Studio 17 Ultimate".(about $80.00) This Software has/is marketed by Corel (spelling?) Who also markets there own video softwere. I assume that you are gathering all of these frames using your "CCD" , should work, try just a few frames as a test case.

I play around a lot just to see what appears on my monitor, like the other day (nite)I shot a photo of Saturn and it looked like someone lost it in the parking lot (barf)..

Anyway I have a lot of 2-bit worth, that are not worth a plug nickle.

Good Luck
