“Real Time host Bill Maher unveiled a new “award show” during his closing monologue Friday evening, saying it’ll be better than the Oscars and Emmys because it’s dedicated to people brave enough to stand up against the cancel culture.”

The “Awards”:

1.) The first award went to ”Cornell University and its president Martha Pollack for rejecting students’ demand for trigger warnings for “traumatic” content in classes.

“She didn’t cave in or hire a new dean of sensitivity, she just said, ‘No. College is for introducing you to new ideas — not for kissing your ass and making you feel wonderful and always right,'”

2.). The second award went to Trader Joe’s, ”which stood behind its ethnically themed product names like “Trader José’s,” and “Arabian Joe’s” after a petition in 2020 called for their removal for being “racist.”
The grocery store chain at the time issued a statement saying, “We disagree that any of these labels are racist and we do not make decisions based on petitions.”

3.). Ted Sarandos of Netflix received the third award ”for his handling of staffers who objected to Dave Chappelle’s comedy special, telling them at the time if they don’t support the content then ”Netflix may not be the best place for you.”

4.) The final award went to actor Ben Stiller, ”who defended his 2008 comedy film Tropic Thunder, saying he makes “no apologies” and is “proud” of his work and everyone involved.” 


”And the lesson is if you stand up to the mob for just a day or two, their shallow, impatient, immature smartphone-driven gerbil minds will forget about it and go on to the next nothing-burger, and you, you still will have your cojones,” Maher concluded.”

Thanks for the explanation. I grew up with American football and love it. Never paid attention to soccer until my grandson got into the game. I mean really got into it. As a Junior in HS they have won the league championship each year and he was all-league goalie for 2 years. I shoot most of his games and discuss the game with him frequently. As a previously casual observer I now discuss strategy and many other nuances of the game. I think this is why many do not care for the game. They do not understand that it is as involved as our football if you really get into it. Unfortunately, if you watch it on TV they do not have the "color" commentator's like football so much goes misunderstood or not even noticed.

Back in 1966 I joined the 593rd General Support Group's HQ company at the Granite City Illinois Engineer Depot.
We were training to go to Vietnam.
On one of the last weekends before we shipped out, on Sat night, we had three guys about to be AWOL because their 1-day pass would run out at midnight. Midnight came, and we heard yelling in the stairwell up to my platoon's squad bay on the second floor.
We went to look for what was going on and two of those guys "DRUNK" came around the corner on the half way landing and each of them had the third guy by one foot (too drunk to stand up let alone walk) dragging him up the two flights of stairs. Every step his body bounced and his head banged a step and he yelled at them. A few guys went down and lifted him up for the last flight, while some other guys guided the other two to the head for a wash down - they had vomited on themselves etc.
After the wash down, someone got out a first aid kit and put a bandage on the guy's head and all three were dropped on their cots. All three seemed to go to sleep the instant their head landed on the pillow. They slept through breakfast and lunch on Sunday. In the mess hall that evening none of them could remember the day before and the guy who got the dragging kept asking "Why do I have this dressing on my head?"
