Persistent Windows 11

I posted yesterday that my son inadvertently updated to Win11. It took a looong time to roll back to Win10. This morning, it's back to Win11, and he can't connect to the Internet. The message said something about "side-to-side" in the Users folder. "Use sxst...exe" I wasn't able to start sxst..., whatever that is. So now, we're waiting and waiting for it two revert back to Win10. Will it continue to revert to Win11?
EDIT: Follow-up. The switch-back went quickly this time, barely fifteen minutes. The electricity flicked off a couple of times, but it turned out all right - APC UPS. His Internet problem was only for Chrome, so now he's sing Edge, like me.

Lots of folks like to blame Microsoft for problems that are not unique to that company. Every OS has its issues, particularly when it relates to security updates. However, Edge, like Chrome, will scrape every last bit of your online data they can possibly glean for their hungry data mining operations.
I will give you an unsolicited bit of advice worth every penny you are paying for it: use Firefox for your browser and Duckduckgo for your search engine. They offer you a tiny bit more privacy and a good deal more security than do Chrome or Edge.

Agreed. I use Firefox and LOTS of "open in private window" clicks.
But sometimes Google does present a larger, more accurate selection of search results.
And I do go through the cookies often to delete any garbage, like for ONE an DONE site visits.

I have to be careful deleting cookies because doing that can make logging onto sites more cumbersome.

Yes, so true. I know the sites NOT to delete the cookies so you don't have to play 20 Questions again to log in!
But mostly I check the cookies daily (or every other day) and can sort by most recent used, which Firefox supplies "Last Used" information in hours/days/years ago. Since I'm not a "world traveler" on the net, I don't have a lot to go through and check.

Turn off auto update till you find out which file is trying to update to 11 and isolate it. I did this when 10 was trying to do the same. Worked just fine. I eventually went to 10 but did a full format and a clean install. IMO, much more reliable. Also a PIMA, why I always say...only keep OS & programs on C drive, everything else on a secondary drive.

I had all kinds of problems with Chrome until I updated it. Did not realize that there was a newer versoin and no notifications to that effect

My son was surprised to see things missing and moved. That's when he The Eleven had struck.

No it does not! I delete every damn cookie that is put on my computer every night. The next time I go to that site they put the cookie right back on the computer and it only takes a second.
