Next year the British Goverment are allowing Gas &Electricity company’s to charge every household in the Uk £16 to cover the debt of non payment by people who have not paid their utility bills, surely it’s the responsibility of the utility co.to recoupe the debt not pass it on to the rest of the country, they are making millions of pounds a year let them take it out of their profit.

At the lake we are members of an electrical co-op. No profits, governed by members who are elected from different districts within the service area. There is no profit so we share in the expense of non payers. They get their power shut off, although not in the cold months. In town our power system is investor owned but highly regulated by the Public Utilities Commission. The do make a profit for the shareholder after expenses. The people that don’t pay get shut off for non payment but not during cold weather. They do solicit for help to pay for the disadvantaged on a voluntary basis. All US utilities are highly regulated.

At the risk of this heading towards the attic the USA has the most bizarre system of government and voting of anything I have seen. You guys have no right to criticize another system of government when yours is so bad (leaving aside a few communist types). Although I too would like to see their rationalisation for a decision like this.

That’s rich. Telling us we shouldn’t criticize another countries government while you criticize ours. From another country.

Just returned from our annual 3 weeks on Kauai at our timeshare. This is about the 25th year. We have traded it several times for stays in such places as New Zealand, Thailand, Mexico and Malaysia. We’ve been fortunate to meet friends on Kauai. This time I was comp’d three whale watching trips by a friend who will be going fishing in Montana, staying at our mutual friends timeshare. When we decide we’re too old to travel we will give them to our three daughters to have an annual reunion week or separate weeks as they see fit. We pay an annual maintenance fee of just under $2700.00. The condo is located across the road with a modest beach and one of the better restaurants on the island. Great snorkeling and within walking distance of the dive shop we frequent. Had dinner at the dive shop owners so they could try out their new pizza oven. Ours is far from the horror stories I’ve heard. In Mexico the time share salesmen were vultures an my wife will never return there. They start right as you leave the airplane terminal. Certainly our use of the time share is not typical and you really have to examine if it fits your lifestyle. The resale market is the place to look, never buy from the developer.

You obviously haven't been paying attention to trump's rhetoric over the past year!

Yes, trump intends to do away with the rule of law and the US Constitution.

He emulates Putin and Kim Jong Un.

Get back on your meds.

[quote=Canisdirus]It's just the reason why third party lenses don't have as fast an AF than native lenses.

AF control is in the camera...not the lens. Native gets no speed limit...third party gets a speed bump.

As for evidence...I thought this was fairly common knowledge.

Show me evidence that major brands intentionally cause their cameras to make a non native lens performance degrade. The lens has limitations inherent to design, it’s not a conspiracy by the camera manufacturers

Oh all of the big three companies do this.
The third party lens manufacturers aren't going to say.

But all non native long lenses will lag behind native...

Do you have evidence of that?
Lag behind in technology? Not sure I’m following.

I really don't know, but since the camera recognizes what is on it via contacts.
It's probably a software code that places a 'governor' on the third party lens' AF.

That seems very unlikely to me but I’ve been wrong before. Wouldn’t it be counter productive to make images that are degraded on their cameras for any reason because people have a 50-50 chance of believing it is the camera. Not a great business plan. The better plan would be to have the engineers make their respective brand lenses even better.

Close to the park is good. You can always drive to Nine Pipes or the towns for restaurants.

It’s quite a drive to Ninepipes and back to Glacier for a day but the background of the Missions is spectacular. The Bison range is a little further. I was suggesting that it was a nice drive by if coming up from the south on hiway 93. This is but a single peak in the range.

Not me. Now that my husband has passed away, I still want to look the best I can at all times and now, just because it makes me feel better about myself. I really don't want to look dirty, grungy, sloppy even if I am just staying at home all day. Every morning when I get up, I make my bed and then put on my make-up and fix my hair, just for me. Old habits are easy to keep.

I think that’s great. That is a generational approach sadly lacking today. Now that we are observing the selfie generation I believe we’ve crossed the Rubicon regarding reasons people do what they do. It would make a fascinating social psychology research project.

NO, that's called "trying to make yourself look as good as possible for your husband." I may be the only one who thinks so but I think it's what all women should do. Most of the women in my town go out with no make up, sloppy clothing and hair stringing down, not brushed or combed, sometimes dirty looking and don't seem to care.

Sorry. I just can't stand it.

Back to AI....it's not for me. I know of 3 people now who use AI to make still life pictures and say they "painted" them.
NO, that's called "trying to make yourself lo... (show quote)

Most med don’t care that much. Women do makeup and cloths for/because of other women.

Whitefish is slightly further from West Glacier. There is a more upscale vibe than Columbia Falls. Whitefish has a huge ski area but you won’t want to rent up there because of the additional drive beyond Whitefish town. Kalispell is nice but adds extra miles. It’s where I always stay, mostly because I used to live there. Wonderful town and also close to Flathead Lake. If you are arriving from Missoula check out Nine Pipes national wildlife refuge south of Ronan. The National Bison Range is just south of there. The Mission Mountains are spectacular, rising out of the plain of the south Flathead Valley. Stay away from Browning Montana except for the museum. It is one of the most depressing communities in Montana.

I'm sure Canon limits third party lenses performance in their top tier cameras.

Native will almost always bring out the best in a lens.

They restrict them...on purpose...so does Sony...and Nikon...it's their sandbox after all.

How do they do that exactly?
