Okay, I don't know how to continue a previous post. Is anyone familiar with the town of Whitefish? We are looking at lodging that's pet friendly for Glacier National Park and one of the places is Whitefish and the other is Columbia Falls. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated.

It might be an exhausting drive from there to Glacier every day.
Your pet will be limiting in your touring of Glacier. No pets on the trails or in buildings.
Have you considered leaving it at home in a kennel?

We will be staying in a home or condo so the pet will not be with us if we hike.

The Great Bear Inn is near the western entrance. Contact them relative to pets, but they have 2 large dogs they own. The inn is excellent. Only issue is that you can hear trains go by at night - ear plugs helped.

đź‘Ť+1. We stayed there two years ago and it was great, although timing the border crossing can be an issue. However, I don't recall seeing any pets while we were there.

Where are you actually staying in Glacier Park? We have timeshare in Columbia Falls (Meadow lake) so we know the area well. Not trying to rent it out!

About 25 years ago, we stayed in Whitefish. The Quality Inn screwed up our registration and had no rooms. They indicated that the town was full, and suggested a small local place with cottages, but indicated that they do not usually recommend it.
When we drove over, we found a bunch of scarey-looking people wearing athletic undershirts, sitting on webbed lawn chairs, drinking beer and smoking pot. One of the buildings had an old toilet outside.
The "manager" indicated that he could see that we wanted his best room, and took us into a cottage where our shoes literally stuck to the floor.
We quickly decided that it would be better to sleep in the car. Fortunately, we tried other hotels, and found a decent room.
I don't remember the name of that cottage hotel, and am sure it is long out of business. However, be careful if you book an unknown hotel. There may be more out there!

We have no passports and we don't take vaccines so Canada is out.

Whitefish is slightly further from West Glacier. There is a more upscale vibe than Columbia Falls. Whitefish has a huge ski area but you won’t want to rent up there because of the additional drive beyond Whitefish town. Kalispell is nice but adds extra miles. It’s where I always stay, mostly because I used to live there. Wonderful town and also close to Flathead Lake. If you are arriving from Missoula check out Nine Pipes national wildlife refuge south of Ronan. The National Bison Range is just south of there. The Mission Mountains are spectacular, rising out of the plain of the south Flathead Valley. Stay away from Browning Montana except for the museum. It is one of the most depressing communities in Montana.

Okay thanks. We are seriously looking at Great Whitewater Raft and Resort....just a mile outside of the park.
