I put a AF DX lens on my D750 body today and took a few pictures. It would not auto focus... Is this a setting issue or something else.

The D750 is new to me and I have not purchased any FX lenses yet. So, until I decide what to start with, I wanted to make do with the lenses I bought with D70

Thanks in advance!

You'll probably be happy with it. Be advised, though, that since this is a mass-produced lens, there can be (are) variations in quality. My first one was disappointing. The replacement was superb!

When I was shooting with a D700, the 28-300 practically LIVED on the camera. So easy and convenient, it was all I would take when traveling, and I have some magnificent images made with this combination.

However, higher resolution sensors can reveal shortcomings that were invisible in the D700. When I moved to a D800, I began to have some doubts and ended up selling the lens. (Now that I have the D850, I'm finding even higher-end lenses are showing some 'issues'!).

I'm "guessing" (literally), that it should work well at 24mp. But I would not recommend it for anything with greater resolution. Something to keep in mind.

A suggestion would be to order from AMAZON. You'll have up to 30 days to use the lens and SEE how satisfied you are. If it doesn't meet your expectations, it's easily returned for a refund.

Thanks!! Which ever one I get, I hope to be able to test it out and send it back if not satisfied. Seems like the best option.

The last picture is where they bury all the horses that have died over the years ....

Thank you all for the kind words ....

All were taken with a prime 85mm

Aww, Heartbreak Hill, beautifully shot. I know they will treasure it. The first one was my favorite, beautiful horse. Lovely capture.

Great! Nice set of pictures. The 2nd horse looks a lot like one of my mares, a Gypsy Vanner mare, has a moustache!! So crazy. I hate the moustache on them. In the spring I clean up their head of all the extra hair.

Thanks for sharing!

the same system available to the illegal is available to you! Why didn't you use it and not pay insurance?

Hey Sarg,

I'm not looking for or expecting anything free. Just think that $1K monthly is a bit much for one person..

You seem to know all about illegals and programs and such. Most of who I know, work and are struggling to pay for crappy healthcare. With deductibles, copays and out of pocket cost so high, you can't afford the use the insurance you pay$1K monthly for. That's what ticks me off.

Heh!

I'm Medicare and United Health Care (AARP) I pay about 300 a month for both and never pay a cent, no deduct's, on medical or RX.

Works for me!

That sounds good! I am a few years from Medicare. Self employed and do not get any discounts on insurance as income is a little over the break point. Have to get insurance thru "The Marketplace" due to pre-existing conditions.

Try Liberty Health Share. I pay $349/mo for my wife and I. $1,000,000 coverage. My wife needed a stent ($88,000). Liberty paid in full.

This is not a joke! The best insurance I have ever had.

Thanks, I will check into it.

Wow, Joe Legal can still afford to pay for healthcare? This was obviously calculated before Obama care... My premiums this year are nearly 1K monthly for me only. Next year I can't do it, tired of paying for me and 4 or 5 of the Jose Illegals..... I will just have to hope that I can avoid any catastrophic issues next year..

Hi SheilaG,

I have this lens and I use it all the time on my full frame Nikons. Its a good overall travel lens because of its wide range and I recommend it for that. I know Gene51 hates it but everyone has their opinions.

I've attached a few images I took a couple of weekends ago using that lens.

Nice! These shots look like pics from travel magazine!

If I am taking planned shots at home or otherwise, that I Intend to enlarge and print; the 28-300 stays on the shelf. For snapshots at Disney World, I will compromise with the 28-300 on a D800E for the sake of convenience.
But, everytime, I use the 28-300, it occurs to me that I should use it more often.

Thank you! All these examples of use are helpful!

I have the 28-300 fx lens and love it on the d7200 dx .... it does take very sharp photos on the 7200 but i suspect on an fx body it will show some vignetting at the wider end. It is a bit heavy but i don't mind the heft....use it as a walkaround and gp lens. Angle of view like a 42-450mm on an fx body.

Thanks Chris, appreciate it!

That is common thinking that I have always found to be expensive. If you buy a lesser lens (or any other piece of equipment, photo or otherwise) with the thinking that you will save for the "better one later", you end up buying twice. More times than not, that ends up more expensive overall.

As for trying to gain insights from comments made on a forum like this, the problem is that you really have no way of evaluating the standards of those who comment. So while Gene states categorically that the lens is awful and other argue that they find it a great piece of gear - you the OP has no way of comparing Gene's standards and the standards of others with yours. In fact, how can anyone give you advice about what you will deem satisfactory. If you are not particularly critical in your photography and if you never enlarge anything > than 4x6, then the lens in question may work just fine for you. But if you are looking for a lens that will allow you to make larger prints and/or you have a low tolerance for less that stellar images, you may not like the lens. While I am on my high horse, do you understand and can you make use of the particular advantages your semi-high end camera body offers? Your body has some pretty fair capabilities - it is a marvelous machine, but if you mount say the 24-70/2.8 lens on it, are you going to be taking advantage of all of the things that fantastic (and expensive) piece of glass can do on that fantastic body? If not, there is not much point in spending the cash.
Addendum - I ditto the recommendation for the 24-120/4 lens. That will simply blow the doors off of the 28-200. No contest

Hey Rick

Thanks for taking the time to share your thoughts. Simple questions often bring out details that were left out or not thought of as others with more experience than me, share their experiences. I appreciate everyone's feedback and taking the time to write and help out. Just so you know, I am not looking for one lens to do it all (how boring would that be). And the camera body I purchased is more camera that I have owned before, I wanted to go a little beyond where I was. I am not a professional photographer but I do know what I want to do and would like to have good quality pictures. I print them from time to time. It is a past-time that I enjoy and with this camera, gives me a chance to learn some new skills and help out with some projects I have in mind.

I do agree with the buying twice ordeal ending up to be more expensive. Just had not really considered it from that point of view. But, I think photography is sort of that way, there is always something new and better on the horizon.

As far as getting insights here, I read here and also other places, but nothing can replace personal experience with the lens.. So I am narrowing my options and will chose a lens to try out, hopefully, I will be pleased and can move on to something else.

Good night and more later!!
