It does help that I have a Canon 1dx, which I call a light sucker and a Canon 70mm-200mm f2.8 IS. I took some pics of the Northern Lights and had to PhotoShop the snow to tone down it's brightness. I hope the comments will help you and your pics of your daughter gymnastics. And Thank you.

Thanks for all the critiques. SharpShooter, I have it on auto ISO. It bounced from 1000?? to 5000. I think one of them I shot at 200000 but I felt uncomfortable going that high. Did jump shutter speed on some of them got some good shoots but the wrestlers weren't moving. Some of my shots I shot on auto, like I said my first time and the others were just instinct. Have dyslexia so all the numbers I learned in photo classes are hard to remember. Also I wasn't too worried about Dof, just as long as the wrestlers were in the field. I actually was thinking of a shallower Dof, to blur the crowd? Thanks for the help, I use it next time. If there is one.

I was asked to shoot a midget wrestling event (my first time), mostly used my 70mm-200mm f2.8 IS. I set it manually for usually at 2.8, sometimes 3.5 and bracketed from 1/60 to 1/80 sec. Any suggestions on sports shooting w/o flash? Thank You So Much.

Great shot, I agree with bertlomis, but you can't always choose your backgrounds. Maybe use a resizer in LightRoom or other programs that allow to crop the picture and keep the same format size. Not sure how much you have already cropped this photo if even at all. Still a good shot.

I under expose the exposure, seems to work for me, but then again, I'm not a pro. Just a few shots from 01/30 and 31. I used Canon EOS 1DX with a Canon 100mm to 400mm with a 2X extender on a tripod. First two were hand held.

Leave the guy alone, like me he might have dyslexia, this is a photography forum, we all knew what he meant? And thanks for the setting suggestions.

Karen's right. Moonlight is reflected sunlight. Spot metering with my (ancient) D200 and Nikon 80-200 D 2.8 resulted in overexposing the moon. Still have to compensate by less exposure.
The moon shot was taken recently, but the landscape(moonscape) was a long time ago. The landscape shot below was taken at night with a full moon. Shutter speed was between 4 and 5 minutes, aperture was probably f4, FILM was probably Fuji Reala 100.

I'm still learning, but did you really mean 4 or 5 minutes?

I have the same problem. I volunteer at church and after I shoot inside I forget to reset my camera for the outdoors. Duh, (to me) look at the metering in the viewfinder. Again bracketing will help you decide what the best setting are. Thank God for digital, I waste a lot of shots, but I do get the one!

My photography teacher, "bracket, bracket bracket"! Also know your camera and what kind of image to expect when you put it on the computer.

My amateur guess would be to have the auto in the lower part of the photo and more trees to give you possibly more depth perception.

Some of us geeks or tetchy guys use it as a boot disk so no one can get into your computer unless you have the card, in my case it's a 8gCF.

Just another perspective, not arguing your point. Not all on UHH are planing to be hobbyist or professionals, just want a decent set up for family fun.
