There are major flaws in your argument against the environmental benefit of EVs.

Some localities, e.g. Chicago are mostly nuclear power. Additionally, many also offer the option of selecting a provider that sources renewable energy - Google MC2 for an example.

Gas cars will always pollute whereas EVs have the potential to be powered by renewable energy which is rapidly replacing fossil fuel plants as they are cheaper to operate.

Finally EVs are far more efficient than ice cars and per mile pollute much less than even when their electricity comes from fossil fuel.

When you factor in the health issues and climate changes caused by fossil fuel, we cannot afford to not transition as soon as possible. EVs are not for everyone but the arguments about cost and environment issues are simply lies spread by people either brainwashed or with an agenda.

I’ve owned one for 11 years now. All the BS arguments, including the cold weather hyperbole, don’t hold water except one. They suck when you drive cross country. In every other respect they are far superior and better for the environment. Ask yourself, do you have only one car and need to drive across the country? Most people fly and rent so it ends up being a non issue.

You are likely already paying those fees anyway, so adding the additional KW hours seems legit in my opinion.

There should be 7 different circles of hell. Sorting the garbage is good for the environment.

It definitely matters depending on the situation. When you are traveling lugging a ton of primes can be at best counterproductive. If you are shooting portraits or challenging available light shots, a fast prime is essential.

Smartphone photography has its place, but for things like birds inflight, low light or when a shallow depth of field is needed, they simply are not the right tool and never will be. Technology gets better but can never defy the laws of physics.

Cool idea. I think I'll try it on a car or a picture of a tortoise.

This piece of garbage computer I work on takes five-ten minutes to open up Paintshop Pro and then another two minutes to denoise each shot. I appreciate the suggestion, but with all the editing I have been doing lately, I just wanted to save time.

Thanks for the visit

I actually think the noise adds to the artistic feel :-)

Beautiful!

It's a reminder for me about when years ago when my wife and I took our 4 year old daughter and 6 year old son to ski for the first time at winter park.

The article didn't present any useful information on just how it works. I get the impression that it's not just any window they use, but more likely a piece of glass that has some particular characteristics (not described) and attached to a 'hidden sensor'. So it's not that our windows will suddenly become cameras unless someone sneaks in and replaces them with the special glass.

Or did I miss something?

You didn't miss much, the article is very light on details, but I'm sure we're going to be hearing more soon. They describe a hidden sensor that captures the images and it sounds like the glass is not ordinary glass, but special glass with some kind of transparent waveguide. They do mention that it is very wide aperture.

A hologram is a three-dimensional (3D) image formed by the interference of light beams, typically produced by using a laser and a photosensitive material. It is created by recording the diffraction pattern of light waves reflected from or transmitted through an object. Holograms appear to be 3D images that can be viewed from different angles, providing a sense of depth and realism to the image.

Unless its a clickbait fake news article misusing the term hologram, they are likely using a laser to scan the special glass and recording the subsequent interference pattern. With what understanding I have of physics, this is certainly feasible and not only would be useful as a camera, but also as a holographic display.

I have a ton of respect for Zeiss and if anybody can make glass that does this, they would be among them.

The OP said the R5 is not in their budget, and asked for a comparison between the EOS 6D Mark II and the EOS R8. Why are people talking about the R5, R6, RP, 5D IV, OM-1, Nikon Z9, and Sony A1? Why are people posting photos of birds?

Once people start making an investment in lenses, they become brand loyal. The OP is interested in Canon cameras and he should know that if he goes with a Canon he is not stuck with brand he will regret. Canon cameras get the job done just like all the top brands.
