Depending on where you are and what you are shooting but for my walk around lens and general purpose I use a Nikon 28-300 with my Full Frame (had I known about it when I still had my DX it would have been good on that one too. The 28 gives some great landscapes, the zoom allows for better framing and the 300 end is useful for quick closeups on unexpected findings during your walk around. Others have said that this one is not as sharp as the 24-70 and perhaps it is not. But it is easier to transport, weighs significantly less and at a much lower buy in cost. For my personal not commercial purposes, it does well. Also have used it for some interior shots this weekend and it performed well. Good luck with your choice.

I usually agree and say something to the effect of "It really does" but then I smile internally because I know the truth.

I went from a D40 to a d7100, it worked out well. In fact, I had two of them (one wide angle and one zoom). Wifi was pretty non-usable, buffer was okay but I like more with the present upgraded camera I am using, quality was good, video not too excited with but that is because I have a similar level video camera for that, and needed to purchase a shutter boss for remote shutter control. When you upgrade, CreativeLive has an excellent introduction video series which truly helped my transition.

It also works well with full frame lenses which I bought while I used that camera. Nice thing was that when I upgraded to a full frame camera the glass came with.

Be prepared to articulate exactly why your D300S is not good enough anymore. What do you need a new camera to do that the 300 doesn't? (This will be an issue out of concern about your finances and waste)

An aside---it is OK to respond "it's my money, I want a new camera"; because it is your money.

Great response. My answer would be set a budget, determine what you want in your next camera and buy it.

This is the card reader dongle for an I pad. This is for an iPad Pro, but may work on other iPads too. Amazon prime.

There is a slightly different version for older iPads. This is the method I use for transfer and it always works well. Much faster than WiFi in my case.

The easy way out is the Nikon 28-300, which gives you the utility of capturing everything. That being said, I am going to suggest a Tamron 24-70 G2 as a faster lens, and the Tamron 70-200 G2 for detail. I've gotten lazy in doing landscapes over the last few years, always using a wide angle lens to get "the big picture." But, after watching Thomas Heaton's YouTube channel, I am using the 70-200 to get a tighter image on a portion of the landscape, which I think, results in a nicer image.

I agree completely on the 28-300 option, mine arrived about a week ago and is now my favorite for most situations. For a secondary landscape lens I like my 16-35 1.4 Nikon Lens. It gives great width, detail, and can also be used for lower light landscapes and up close portraits.

I use both. Most of my shots are good with JPEG - I shoot for mostly personal use and my own enjoyment (especially now that I can get some very large, very detailed shots with the new camera). For those shots that I want to make extra special or for whatever reason need attention I use the Raw version and tweak it.

I was in best buy yesterday and have to share a story. I needed a USB Wifi connector. Asked the guy in the computer department where they were and he took me over to the rather large display area. Told him what I needed it for - Setting up my mother's computer in a new house. He gave me two options and indicated one was faster for only a couple more dollars - I asked "which one is prettier?" Got a laugh when he was at a loss for words and had no clue how to respond.........

I figure carrying my 200 - 500 along with the camera - used to be d7100 now d850 - is a lot like lifting weights in the gym only with more movement. I used to carry two d7100s - one with the long lens, one with a wide angle - but have cut that back to just a single camera with lens3 based on what I expect to shoot.

I agree about everything but Kermits.. I thought their Key Lime Pie was the worst down there and (actually) thought the frozen Marie Calendars or some of those were better. Now, there were other places down there that had (I thought) really good Key Lime Pies but Kermit was too busy hyping his product and not generating a good one. In fact, we stayed at the Blue Green Resort in Marathon and their marina was selling Key Lime pies (not Kermits) and I thought that they were better. Don't get me wrong, Kermits were okay but not the best. In fact there were 4 or 5 others between Marathon and Key West that we thought were better. And that doesn't even touch on the ones in the upper keys.

It would appear I need to get out more on my next trip. Thank you for your response and I will try the others next time I am down there. In fact and emergency visit sooner than later may be in order. This time without the cruise boat so I can get sunset at Mallory square.

I did have a funny thing happen on a previous trip. Snapped a picture of a Tall Ship sailing during sunset. Three years later I thought I saw the same one in Chicago during a Festival. Went back and found the original picture. Turns out it was a ship commissioned by General George S Patton, "The When and If". It was fun to have pictures in both places but the Mallory Square Sunset was much nicer.

the drive is long and slow. Can be frustrating if you are behind a diesel burning truck in a no passing zone. But depending on you watercraft option, it is still faster trip. It is a fun sailboat race from Miami to KW, usually good fair winds, but still about 125 nm. What to see?? Well LOTS! It is an eclectic collection of people--mostly Americans but...young, old, all races, physically fit and physically challenged, hippies (remember them? they kept going south to stay warm and when they got to Key West ran out of land), gay, military (US Navy Air Station and Coast Guard)---but all are friendly and one can spend a fruitful afternoon with anyone just exchanging life stories! Blue Heaven is a very good choice for dinner and of course key lime pie is everywhere!

Great summary of the people. We asked the Taxi Driver about the Hurricane and he had a great story about his neighbor. On a first trip the trolley driver was having us yell to her friends on the street and they yelled back. Really the most fun place I have ever been to. Gotta go to Kermits for Key Lime Pie though. I am sure the others are good but Kermits is my favorite. And a great photo opportunity of the building, court yard and docks across the street (old Location).

We have driven down to Key west from Miami a couple of times. Interesting drive with a few good photo stops.
We have also arrived in Key West via airplane and cruise ship. Including just a couple of weeks ago. All good ways.
While in Key West - Many of the suggestions above are great - Hemingway House, Butterfly Garden, there is also a light house in the same area as well as the Southern Most Point Marker - evreyone needs a shot with that - and the area also borders on a pier where a lot of pelicans and other water birds hang out. Dry Tortugas National Park/Fort Jefferson is also a place seldom visited but well worth a day of your trip. If you are there overnight, there is a bus or trolley tour of Key West haunted sites. Very entertaining. The hop on/hop off trolley during the day is great for first timers. Transportation and you can get a feel for where things are in the city. Beyond these places there is the Truman Southern White House, the Key West Garden, the Key West Botanical Garden, and many other low visitor count areas fund to visit and take pictures. For meals and drinks Sloppy Joes and Captain TOny's were good but I prefer Fogarty's/Flying Monkeys - large servings and great drinks outside on the patio. The staff even chase away birds that come to bother. Finally, after a long day Mallory Square at sunset is a must - street performers and the best sunsets ever. Good luck and have a great trip.

I did watch the TED article. Very compelling and needs to be viewed. To me it is amazing that someone can put all of this together and report through images as well as words so effectively. Well beyond what I would be able to do but it is educational to see others doing it. Thank you for sharing the original article as well as the information on the photographer.

Another good thing to ban would be pharmaceutical donations to political parties/officials. 60 minutes had a great story on that earlier this year. There are people trying to at least control the problem but there are rules and regulations blocking enforcement.
