My question is, especially for panning shots but also in general, is there a downside to using all electronic? I've seen extreme examples where panning could create a slanted image at certain shutter speeds, because of the line by line scanning, but in practical work, does it make any difference to use all electronic vs. mechanical?
Yes. Big difference. Gary Friedman's "Sonny A6300" book, section 7.25 has an extensive discussion on this "Silent Shutter" mode. A few, not all, items include:
1.You can’t shoot with flash.
􏰂2. 14-bit RAW mode is not an option here. The camera will automatically go to 12 bit.
3.Multi-shot modes such as High Dynamic Range (HDR), Long Exposure Noise Reduction, and Multi-Frame Noise Reduction (MFNR) aren’t available
􏰂 4. The only Continuous Shooting drive mode available is "Lo".
􏰂 5. Picture Effect and Picture Profiles are not available
􏰂 6.Bulb shutter speedvis not available.

Precision Camera Repair (CT) repaired my physically broken Zeiss/Sony 16-70mm (for A6300). Initially fixed/returned lens did not focus properly. I returned it & they fixed it, no questions asked. Now works great! Will gladly use them again.

Try 'full format' in a Windows computer {I'm not sure about MAC}, and then format it in the camera.
I've done this successfully with Mac's "Disk Utility". First, verify the correct format by checking a good card. Then, on the bad card, erase and format.

I would recommend considering a Nikon P900 Bridge Camera with its 83X zoom. It is selling for about $600.00 new.
I'd prefer the Nikon COOLPIX P1000 over the P900.
Google to compare. Example: https://cameradecision.com/compare/Nikon-Coolpix-P900-vs-Nikon-Coolpix-P1000

Having said that, $350 is a lot for 1 TB of SSD. A substantial part of that cost must be installation and transferring the data (if you don’t feel comfortable doing it) because the drive is in the $100-$140 range depending on the specific drive.. If you don’t feel comfortable doing the installation and transfer per the instructions, then consider buying a Samsung 860
Agree. For an eternal, a 1TB SSD on Amazon is <$140. An enclosure is about $8. Cable about $6. If you want to use it as a primary internal drive, then make a clone of the existing drive and swap.

John- thanks for the post. It validates for me that the focusing via the shutter button still has its time and place as well as BBF. Most of the proponents of BBF state something to the effect of " I changed to BBF and never looked back" whereas it makes more sense to me to use both methods depending on the situation. Sweet shots!!
Agree. With my point & shoot, I usually use the shutter-button focus mode. If I give the camera to a non-camera savvy person, focus is automatic. I don't have to explain BBF.

On my Nikon D850, I set one rear-camera button to BBF group area. Activate with my thumb. I set a front-camera button to single point focus. Activate with my index finger. My Nikon focus "bible" is Steve Perry's "Secrets to the Nikon Autofocus System" book.

But I was in an accelerated class, and we ALL questioned authority.

We questioned the principal about our math teacher on a regular basis, and provided a steady stream of examples of her inability to write a coherent, logical, unambiguous problem. She was gone after winter break...
My school taught me critical thinking. I don't think most schools teach that these days.
Also, I complained about my HS physics teacher. The next term, he was teaching 8-9th graders.

Just because Tracey asked for more bars doesn't mean she actually got any more.
Also, does "asks for the remaining quarter" really mean "asks for a quarter of the Rachel's remaining bars?
