Out at Vandenberg AFB there are tons of ground squirrels, big blue herons patiently wait outside their holes, nail them with their beak and swallow them whole. I¡ve watched it happen, not a pretty sight😱

I WANT ONE!!! I've got a 2001 1100cc Honda Saber with windshield, hard case saddle boxes and a trunk that runs good but this really looks like fun!

You have a great bike, 120 hp, goes like hell. I had the 750cc version, love that V4 sound.

So true, guess that's why it's so funny. Thanks for the laugh Graham.

Thanks everyone for all the many responses to this. After reading your replies to this topic I’m anxious to try it out for myself. I love the mechanical build and simplicity of this camera, it's nice just to look at and hold. I'm really glad I found this before some snot nosed little bugger in the thrift shop tore the hell out of it. It'll set on my shelf for awhile then because I’m old I’ll find a nice home for it. Just hate to see it tossed in with a lot of other old cameras you see being thrown out these days. Love the pic of the GI holding the Rollei.

Thanks, I will probably run a roll of film thru it and then set it up on a ledge or find some suitable place to display it. I’ve downloaded a light meter app that will suffice for that. I’ve seen these on eBay for well over $100 for one in this condition, I’m not interested in selling it but if a collector needed this for his/her collection and would give it a good home I might consider selling to a fellow hedgehog for what I paid for it.

Found this in a local thrift shop for $2.52. I'm sure they thought it was broke because the film advance/shutter cock lever doesn'™t operate till the lens is pulled out. I didn'™t know how it worked either till finding the info on the net. It's nice just to hold this little jewel, no plastic body, etc. I haven't shot film in years but I'm going to give this a try, everything including the match needle system seems to be working well. Newer batterys (1.5v vs 1.35v) does throw the readings off a bit, or so I've read. Anybody out there reading this that has used one? I understand they were produced from 1961 thru 1981.

Actually, like bumblebees helicopters can't fly. They're so ugly the earth repels them. However from what I've read above there were a lot of guys in Nam that would disagree✌

The gaming ship truly was amazing. You had to get tickets (free) to board and just like boarding a plane you went through metal detectors. Once on board there was a buffet where you could make cold cut sandwiches for yourself, sodas and coffee also available too also all free. Once you were at sea having dropped off the harbor pilot and were out far enough the slot machines and gaming tables became active and just like Vegas booze was dispensed. You could gamble where and when or as much as you wanted, I enjoyed the bar and wandering around the fantail where Jamaican music was playing. Must have been somewhat profitable as the ship was there doing this for a few years. Each trip out lasted for around 5 hours if memory serves and it was a party atmosphere all the way.

Found the photo of the gaming ship I took at the Cape as it was returning to Port. The other white ship, the USNS Sword Knot, is the range tracking ship I worked on back in 70. The "Golf Ball" on the stern housed a large telemetry antenna, the ball was held erect by air pressure. We sailed south to the equator to collect signals from missiles launched from Vandenberg AFB to be inserted into polar orbit.

In 2004 I went out on a casino ship operating out of the port, it was a very large ship, three decks of gambling, night club and one heck of a lot of fun. All free by the way except for what you lost anyway. The ship went out twice a day, quite an undertaking in my view considering the size of the thing. Finally due to engine problems and disputes with port authority it wound up in Texas and was scrapped.

Cape Canaveral is a really neat place to see ships Before retiring I used go to the Cape frequently, Jetty Park was a very good place to see ships coming and going. Your pictures brought back a lot of pleasant memories, thank You

The Navy ship with the golf balls was actually an Apollo Tracking ship. They were Navy ships operated by MSTS crews and manned with technicians from Federal Electric Corp. under direction from the US Air Force. Their purpose was to provide communications and tracking info from the Apollo rockets going to the moon. The golf balls housed telemetry, radar and communications antennas. I was an HF Transmitter tech on a similar but smaller ship here on the west coast These were operating in the sixties and 70s am not familiar with ships like that in the 80s as satellite comm had pretty much eliminated the need for these ships by that time.

Of course the aircraft in this video is impressive but I think the photographer who took this video did an excellent job also. It's not easy to track an aircraft as smoothly as this, and thru clouds no less!

Very interesting and educational. I'm certainly no expert in this area but a couple of things did catch my attention, I wonder if anyone else caught it or if I'm just wrong. In the opening segments of the film he is explaining about the different types of engines showing examples of those mounted on airplanes. When talking about turboprop aircraft the examples shown are reciprocating engines not turoprops on the aircraft shown. Secondly the thrust from a high bypass engine comes mainly from the air that is forced around the turbojet inside, he stated just the opposite I believe. All in all a very good video I think anyway, makes a lot of sense.

I live out in the country and try to avoid congested cities and roads. I suppose I could upgrade to a Garmin model that includes the "T" to take full advantage of the FM antenna.[/quote]

You may be right about the antenna, but I have two Garmin units, one without the camera option but it still has the traffic receiver and uses an identical power cord. Living and driving in rural areas as you do, you would have little or no use for the FM traffic receiver. The radio stations that transmit this data are only found in very congested areas, ie: So. Calif. At least that's been my experience.
