The ONLY thing wrong is I wasn't there to take a photo myself!

One thing you need to know about Cades Cove - the Cades Cove Loop Road is closed to vehicle traffic every Wednesday and Saturday until 10 a.m. from early-May to late-September, as well as every Saturday in December until noon. During this time, you are invited to walk or bike the roadway without worrying about cars slowing you down. Every other day of the week, the gates open as dawn approaches, i.e., before actual sunrise but after it is getting light. On Wednesday and Saturday, you can walk down the road and take as many pictures as you want but will have to carry your equipment in.

Thanks for the information. I didn't see the preferences correctly or realize about the synchronizing of the library. Hopefully, this should clear up my problem.

I ma not sure whether I have a Nik problem, Lightroom problem, or a personal problem. I start editing a photo (such as “IMG-123”) in Lightroom and then go into Nik software. While in Nik, the photo sometimes shows a new name such as “IMG 123-edit” and sometimes shows a different name such as “Untitled 256”. First, can anyone explain why the name can be different – is there some Lightroom or Nik default that I need to understand. Then when I finish the step in Nik, and go back to Lightroom, sometimes the edited photo shows up and sometimes it doesn’t. Again, is there a preference or default in Nik or Lightroom that I am not seeing, or can someone explain why the photo doesn’t show up. I am trying to understand and get some standards set.

I have seen that wildlife photographers use a gimbal head on their tripods. I also see that most landscape or portrait photographers use ball heads on their tripods. Do most people use one tripod and change out their heads depending on what they anticipate shooting that day, or do they have two tripods taking the requisite tripod? I can’t see taking two tripods into the field or stopping to change heads during a shoot. I have one manfrotto tripod with a sirui ball head and am thinking about getting a gimbal head but even if/when I get the gimbal head, am not sure where to go from there. Thanks for any help.

My pictures of the mill were shot on Oct 18th (Tuesday), The colors all along the Blue Ridge Parkway were at peak (as far as my wife and I could tell). I will be posting more pictures I took along the parkway in the next few days.

I have two pictures of Mabry Mill on the Blue Ridge Parkway. One picture shows a much better reflection of the mill in the pond, while the other picture has better color (IMHO). I would like others opinions of which one they like better, and any other critiques they may have.

I believe I am going to go for it - thanks for all the input. I am planning on sharing my lenses with my wife. Need to keep costs down when I can.
Although I could wait and see what a SL2 has, I don't think I can pass up this price. I would believe that a SL2 (if it actually comes out) will be priced quite a bit higher than this.
Interestingly, although B&H's price of $399 (body only) expired yesterday, Adorama, Hunts and Amazon are still showing the $399 price. Makes me wonder what is going on.

$499 for the camera with the 18-55 lens, $3699 with body only. I previously had a Canon 60D and still have a 17-55 EF-s Lens, so see no need to buy a 18-55 lens with the SL1.

Thinking about getting my wife a Canon SL 1 camera. I have read all the specs and believe that it will give her enough camera to take the kind of pictures she likes to take while still being a small light camera. Right now (6-10-16) the price of the camera on many sights, including Canon's own site, shows a list price of $549.99 with a discount of $150.00 giving a net price of $399.99. I don't have a lot of insight on whether this price of $399.99 is a new standard price for the camera or whether it is a sale price that is good until xxx. Based on the past, what is everyone's guess on which the future price of this camera? FYI - I have a 5D Mark III so I won't have to buy as many new lenses if I get another Canon.

If I have to buy a new camera, I will probably go on and get another Mark III. I am guessing that a Mark IV will be around $3500. A new Mark III is in the $2500 ballpark. Since I am NOT a professional (or anywhere close), I can't think of what I need from a Mark IV that would be worthy $1000 to me.

Unfortunately, while trying to get a good view of a waterfall, I managed to fall into a small creek, with my camera, of course. The camera appears to be working BUT it si slow to turn on and it is impossible to change the ISO and speed. It will take pictures however. Has anyone been able to resurrect their camera in this kind of condition, scan Canon possible repair it, or am I doomed to buy a new body?

I have had good results at perfectposters.com. I would like to know if anyone else has used them and found one of the other recommended labs doing a better job.

I am originally from that area and would try to get to Sparks Lane in Cades Cove right before sunrise. The rangers open up the cades cove loop road when it starts getting light so you can be in the cove when the sun rises. Sparks Lane is the first road cutting through the loop road about a mile form the loop road entrance into the cove. There is also a great viewing point of the cove about 3 1/2 to 4 miles in. Don't miss the grist mill at the Cable's Mill area half way through the loop.

On my computer (a PC), I work on an image, and first, it seems like it takes quite a bit longer to do anything. When I edit an image in NIK software, for instance , it takes a while to bring the software up, and sometimes when I finish in NIK, it won't come back to Lightroom. It syas Lightroom is not responding and I can't even keep the Lightroom page on screen to close it.
