I purchased a few backpacks and take one extra lens,a snack and water to fit my hike. As you know, packs are available in many sizes and it depends upon how much I want to carry. I didn't acquire all of my lenses to not use them for super opportunities. My mono or tripod easily attaches to the pack as well.

I understand, but an extra 500mm is a bit much to lug around plus the dynamics of air travel and baggage. I won't be doing a lot of long hikes anyway. I have means to carry my gear when I really need to. Thanks for the response.

I've had mixed results from this camera. There are a lot of setting options to fiddle with if you like doing that. Sometimes the photos are really good; other times I scratch my head as to what went wrong. The zoom range is fantastic, and the stabilization has allowed me to get some great shots at hand-held full zoom. I don't use the camera a lot (it is my wife's) so I suggest getting REALLY familiar with it to understand it.

Thanks, I'll have a tripod and want to use this for the long or wildlife quick shots.

Excellent idea. I went there three years ago and left my DSLRs home. I know I brought a little Nikon "tough" camera, but I don't remember if I brought another compact. I got thousands of excellent shots, including panorama and underwater. When I travel, I like a little camera that fits in a case on my belt.

Thanks, I won't go without the D750, but didn't want to fool with anymore than that for real long shots. Thanks for the input.

Thinking of picking one up fairly cheap, open box new unit under $200.00 to take to Yellowstone ( along with the D750 of course) I didn't want to lug the 500mm Sigma and D7100, and no more than I use the 500 anyway, I may just sell it if I like this Fuji. Opinions??

Does anyone use an alternative to Lightroom? If so, which program?
I use ACDSee because it is so user friendly, I could never get the hang of any PS programs. I think it does great with nef files, I couple it with Paint Shop Pro for further editing / effects if needed. Fully functional 30 day trial also.

I've shot in the noonday sun in Big Bend N.P. and could have used a neutral density filter. The question is, which one? Would the ND .3 have been the correct one (is it also called ND3? Tiffen's new ones run $130, they're called Tiffen 9, but I also found one on Ebay for $18.99. I will post the link after somebody else posts.

I use the 3 stop to slow the shutter speed when shooting water, even with very small ap. settings have never needed to focus first. I also use it when shooting daylight portraits and flash to keep my sync speed in line. You may want to check these out on Amazon, color correction seems spot on .

I've had the D7100 since 2015 and while I've gotten some amazing shots with this DX body, I was wondering what the impact would be in transitioning to a FX body like the D750?
All my lenses are AF-S, and whatever I decide to do, I am sticking with them.

So, what's the benefits?

I did the same, main reason going to the 750 was for low light shooting, I now have no fear of 2-3000+ iso but only when needed, lack of noise is amazing. I really like the highlight mode exposure and I have set it to my function button. Battery life is shorter in my opinion, but I am always fooling with stuff while shooting. You won't be happy with dx lens, it will affect ability to crop much, only about half of that 24MP will be used. One thing I don't like with FF is the single point focus point doesn't stretch very close to the edges of the screen. That is the only drawback for me. I love my 750, it allows me to get shots not possible with the 7100 which I still love and use for wildlife. I use the 750 for weddings and other portraiture.

The price is too low, and the requirements for the sale are too strange. I wonder how Amazon would handle the inevitable complaint afterwards.

Here are the GMT +2:00 countries.

in lens shopping the last few months I saw several lens with the same shady "contact me direct" lingo, I called Amazon and they have been pulling these posts down, but can't keep up with them all I see.

On my new Win 10 computer I was able to download and install nik suite as plug ins for PSP X8, but when I tried the Topaz, the search folders dialog box doesn't seem to open enough for the bottom with the "ok" box to appear. Everything is going smooth to that point. Any ideas, I don't know why the nik went in fine but the Topaz isn't. about two weeks apart in the install attempt (I'm no guru computer wise)

Happy Weekend to all UHH's,

My dilema is; some four years ago now I had a guy build a website to display my photography.
It is built using WordPress but the site has never gone live!
This is because I have struggled to learn how to use the site, uploading, updating, technical issues etc. because I know nothing and cannot seem to learn about coding.
Trust me - hours and hours of trying but the methodology wont sink in!
Even enrolling on an online training course hasn't been effective because the WordPress training doesn't include the various plug-in's used to operate the galleries on my site etc.

So, despite the cost, (now written off four years ago!), I am thinking of ditching WordPress.
Firstly, because I dont think I'll ever get a grip with it and secondly, it now needs quite a serious face-lift to bring it up to date... more money!

This is what has got me thinking about alternatives and Wix.com looks pretty good.
It's free for the basic package, the templates are ready made and it seems like all I have to do is fill in the gaps with my images, text, blog and so on, on my chosen template.

May I ask what you guys think?
What do you guys look for in your photography web site?

Should I ditch WordPress, which I appreciate is a very powerful platform, and go with the seemingly easier, free option?

Have a great weekend!

I use WIX, it's very user friendly and they are always upgrading their offerings, I really like it. I never would be able to build my site on my own. That said, I don't have the free version, I don't want to do advertising for them on my site, and I don't know if you could get all the bells and whistles you may want for the free version. I think you can do a trial and build your site without a commitment, nothing to lose but time involved. Good luck on your search.

You will definately have the time of your life. My wife and I have probably been to the part at least 10 times in our life and it is the best national park in the country in our opinion. First let me say that the weather in early October is problematic. The temperature in the morning could be +- 10 degrees so bring warm clothes. We will hope you don't get much if any snow. I won't go into a lot of detail on the park, but it is about 60 x 60 miles and the road pattern in the park is a figure 8. There is one entrance from the North, one from the South, one from the East, and one from where you are staying in West Yellowstone. We normally spend about 2 days just driving around the parks figure 8 road pattern. You will see lots of animals, and you will stop along with the other tourists at each group of animals. You will run into Buffalo, Elk, maybe deer, we have occasionally seen Moose, and occasional Bear and Mountain goat. You will also run into the usual assortments of geisers, mud holes, water falls, etc. Going out the east entrance of the park is the city of Cody. The finest western museum in the country, Buffalo Bill Western Historical Museum, is there. You don't want to miss it. Out the south entrance of the park are the Grand Tetons, and the city of Jackson Hole. It probably has the greatest number of western art galleries in the country. You'll have a great time. All roads will close in the park on 7 Nov except the North entrance road, which stays open year round. By the way, you'll want to have a zoom that goes to a minimum of 300MM.
You will definately have the time of your life. M... (show quote)

You have lots of great advice here! What an awesome trip you will have! If you are 62 or older and do not yet have a "Senior Pass" (Used to be called the Golden Age Passport) - get one online or at the first park visitor center you encounter. I bought one yesterday at the Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge. Quick and easy! It is only $10 (there is an additional $10 service fee for doing it online) and is good for you AND the occupants of your car as long as you live! There is no better bargain in the world! It is good for ALL federal parks, monuments, wildlife refuges, seashores, and recreation areas. In many it covers all fees, but in some you would still pay a small day fee for camping, launching a boat, etc. When you are there this fall you will not encounter that many tourists. You WILL still encounter the wildlife, the "thermal features", and the grand vistas! You may encounter cold and snow - so be prepared! We will await photos! Make sure you have a WIDE angle lens!
You have lots of great advice here! What an awesom... (show quote)

ditto on the great advice! Have had the Sr. pass a few years, love it. I now shoot the D750 and have the 16-35 f4. among others, works great here in the Hocking Hills. Thanks

Things start closing down pretty dramatically after Labor Day, but that should not present a big problem since you are staying In West. Mammoth has no lunch in late fall, but does have gas, in fact even closed facilities seem to have fuel. The Mammoth hotel restaurant is only open until Oct 10. You may want to consider taking lunch items for your day trips, a couple of grocery stores in West. As was mentioned above, this is Wyoming and bad weather can and does occur anytime. Will you be driving or renting a car, if renting consider an all wheel drive.

We do the lunch thing, buy a cheap cooler soon after we pick up the car. I had pondered all wheel drive, and may check weather prior to departure, but for now it's a full size sedan. thanks
