I can see one advantage to using the crop sensor setting on the camera, that would be if your away from your home with two small SD cards and can't get to your computer to transfer your images. You may find it advantageous to hold more images rather than loosing out on images you really want to have. This may seem like a rather lame reason but when reality rears it's head, we sometimes have to make choices, do we forgo image quality for getting the image we rally want. There has been times when I left the house with 8G SD cards in steed of a couple of 32G cards. When given eggs make the omelette. The same holds true to how you arrange you cards distribution.

How about work flow? ease of use?

I don't quite have the hang of it yet, but I think once I get more comfortable with it I would become quite proficient.
It will be based on how much time and effort you're willing to devote to learning a new application.

Hi folks, Has anyone heard of a product called Affinity which does all the stuff Photoshop does but runs for free? :?:

It is not free, It's an application strictly for the Apple computer and yes the developers do state that it is in direct competition wish Photoshop. I own it and it does go right into the pixels. I can't say if it would be a good Graphics Application.

Impressive, for hand holding an almost 1000mm. Surely you braced yourself up against a tree or fencepost while hand holding. If you hadn't then that would be extremely impressive to say the least. Myself if I'm going out with any lens longer than 300mm then I bring my monopod, set my ball head tensioner for the lens and camera I'm using and I'm good to go.

So far the tutorial have been informative and I like that I can choose what area I'm interested, rather than following one tutorial link, linked to an other. Personally I think I got value for my money. BTW I live in Canada so the price was a tad higher (exchange rate) and I had to pay the sales tax putting it near the $50.00 mark for me.

If you're determined in using a filter then the FL-D filter is what was used with film cameras. An easier fix is to set your white balance in the camera. Have a nice day.

Yes, I have Affinity and I'm blown away at what I can now do with only a $50 dollar program. It is roughly the same as PS and LR.
I don't regret my purchase at all and finally feel I got value for my money. Personally I don't like paying for something over and over again.

Switch your camera to manual. You can't auto focus with that magnifier filter on the lens.

Weight all the equipment you would like to take and divide it by yourself and your wife and you will have the answer to taking the 150-600 lens or not. If you're thinking of taking a monopod as well than factor that in unless you put it in your luggage in which case it doesn't matter in fact you may think of putting the lens or your other lens in luggage along with mono or tripod. I'm sure you can pack them so they will not get damaged. The benefit of doing this is that you have what you want and you don't have to buy anything else for your trip. Make sure you have adequate insurance in case of lose or damage. Just sharing another solution. You won't be needing all your lenses or mono, tripod on the plane anyway. Bon Voyage!

The D300 is probably more than you expect. By getting that camera you open yourself up to "D" lenses also "AI" lenses. Depth of field preview, mirror lock up as well as mirror up for cleaning, die cast body, weather sealed and the list goes on. At either price it is a good deal, sorry about the flash but the 10,000 activations make up for it. It would not surprise me that you may just use the D300 as your go to camera. One word of caution, keep the ISO low, it gets noisy above 800 ISO worse the higher you go.
