Was at the Rodin Garden at the Cantor Museum @ Stanford attempting to photograph the Gates of Hell. I was using a Nikon D800 with a 14-24 mm lens on a Manfrotto tripod. I had checked out a Broncolor strobe from my photo department. I let another photographer go ahead of me as he was taking pictures of his model and I was still setting up. When I was ready and just about to start, two women representing SU stated that they "Could not allow this", and demanded that we leave. I was able to get a name and phone number of someone at the institution where I could request written approval to photograph. Has anyone else been kicked out of where they were attempting to take pictures? Have heard that if you use a tripod, you are assumed to be a professional, and are making money.

You can't beat dual monitors for ease of use. I use an NEC Multisynch for color correction. It is a few years old, but the colors are superb. However, the proof is in the pudding by the print.😭

Any bad experiences with Hong Kong based, but shipped in US, discounted new Nikon lenses? A 20% discount is tempting. I know the big three are recommended.

Manual mode is probably okay. But aperture and shutter priority were non functional. No way for automatic bracketing either. The 80-200 mm is not the same in cpu capability as the newer 70-200 mm. Quality of glass and speed of autofocus are other issues.

Bought a new Nikon 80-200mm ED Zoom for the 8008 film camera way back. Unable to use this lens with the Nikon D800e. Had to pick up the newer 70-200 ED VR Zoom lens. This one works with the D800e.

Never used to be a problem until this year, especially FedEx. I had a new front grille for my MBZ shipped from the east coast. It was supposedly signed for by someone named AAileen. There was no one here by that name. I had to have the next one sent to the body shop. I requested that all labels showing MBZ be covered over. Luckily they got it. Recently another item was supposedly signed for by someone named EEileen. Again, no one here by that name. Two more attempts made before I had it shipped to a condo office.

I have a friend who had ordered a special edition of a 1 oz gold piece. He signed for it, and then discovered the seal had been tampered with. No gold piece inside. He filed a claim, but since he had signed for it he was out of luck.

Will start requesting that the item be held at the distribution center for me to pick up, or use the Amazon lockers at 7-11.

A slow, low amperage trickle charge has been the best for Pb acid, automotive batteries. I don't know if that is true for Li ion. I go for the 5 Vdc, 1-2 A output, 120/240 Vac input wall outlet chargers. Charging from a USB port on a computer is slow.

I had an issue many years ago while charging from a 240Vac/50Hz source in the UK. I was charging AA's and they wouldn't work. I had to wait awhile (30' to 1 hr) and then they were functional. I was using a 240 to 110 Vac converter. My only explanation is that the batteries were charged too hot, and the camera (Nikon 8008) would not operate with an input voltage greater than the design voltage.
This was a long time ago, but it may still apply. I've found that a 3-4 outlet power strip is essential when travelling. You can get them with universal plugs. You will still need an adaptor plug from the local configuration to the two or grounded three prong US configuration. Make sure all of your devices are 240/120 Vac 50/60 Hz input compatible, I have a 240 Vac to 120 Vac, 120 Vac to 240 Vac converter, but it's a little heavy. Haven't used it much. Hair dryers are fickle. A mobile power supply 8.8 Ah, 5 Vdc, 1 or 2.1 A can come in handy for some applications. However, then you have the USB 2/3 mini, micro headache.
Have a great trip and don't let the equipment get in the way.

No matter what the device, I invariably have to purchase batteries with a higher mAh capacity. I am using a Nikon D800 with an EN-EL15 1.9 Ah capacity battery. I also use the additional battery pack. It's good to have an additional set of fully charged batteries as backup. I also keep another battery tray with eight AA Energizer ultimate lithiums as backup. The batteries do run down rather quickly (one shoot of about 200 images). I just purchased two Vivitar 2.5 Ah batteries for a 30% gain in capacity. You have to be cautious of the vendor as I have had disasters with rechargeable Li ion 18650's and CR123A's. They advertise huge capacities but are either DOA or the operation is excreable. Charge rate is an issue as well. A slower rate of charge is better than a fast rate. Unfortunately, most of us do not have that kind of patience. Good luck in the battery wars!
