Any bad experiences with Hong Kong based, but shipped in US, discounted new Nikon lenses? A 20% discount is tempting. I know the big three are recommended.

It is a tradeoff. Price versus warranty repair in the US IF you need it. I stick with B&H a US supplier.
Depending on where you live, and I am sure there are a few in the Bay Area, independant Nikon repair facilities are available if you need one. I recently had a Nikon D810 repaired through Samys Camera, who did not use the Nikon facility in Beverly Hills due to unavailability of parts. The sent the camera to an independant, who did the job just fine.

Never had problems with Hong Kong dealers BUT I'd stay well clear of mainland China dealers; many problems!
