Last month I indicated that I am thinking about upgrading my Canon 60D to an 80D. I don't want to go to a 7D or a full frame. I primarily use my 60D for travel photography, flowers at the local arboretum, and family pictures.

I asked if the 80D substantially better than the 60D. The answer was clearly that the 80D is much superior and if I have the budget for it, I should upgrade.

The 80D (body only) is currently on sale for $999. The 80D with the new 18-135 Nano lens is currently on sale for $1299. I can probably get $150 to 175 for the body only and $350 - 425 for trading in my 60D with my older (non-Nano, non-STEP) 18-135 lens .

My next question is whether the new 18-135 lens is so much better than my current lens that I should trade the lens in too. I have tried to research this, but have not found anything that provides a clear answer. It appears that the optical system is the same, but the Nano lens has better coatings and a better motor.

Thanks for your thoughts.

Is the 80D substantially better than the 60D?

What features does the 80D have that make it worth the jump from my 60D?

Is it worth waiting to see what the 90D looks like, months or years from now when it eventually comes out?

Thanks for your thoughts.

Why the meaningless post?

An excellent question.

If you don't like chimping, don't do it.

If you don't like to look at chimping, look away.

Unless you are a member of the camera police it's not one of your concerns.

I recently bought a Sirui K40x ball head from B&H based upon it's review in DP. It is as good as the review says it is and much less expensive than the others.

Why did you go with the K-40x rather than the K-30x?

I have an induro pan tilt head phq? It is rated at 22 or 23 pounds. I have been very satisfied. I use it to hold camera and a 50-500 mm sigma. Also have induro legs.

Some of the reviews at B&H complain that the PHQ heads are not truly arca-swiss compatible, there is play in the handles, and the levels are not accurate.

What has your experience been with respect to those issues?

Thanks.

Thanks.

I understand that you have a different model; I was trying to get a sense of the build quality. You gave me that. Thanks.

I am looking for an arca-swiss compatible tilt/panhead for under $200.

Does anyone have experience with an Induro PHQ1 or PHQ3 5-way panhead? Pros, cons?

One obvious con: Priced at $225 and $275 the Induros are both over $200.

Thanks.

You might want to consider this from a very recent post in the UHH Links section:

The statute appears to apply to private land. Fair enough, that is already covered by trespass statutes.

The statute also appears to apply to non-private "open land".

Help me out.

The statute applies to entry onto "private open land" (Sec. 1(b)) which appears to be private property.

The statute also applies to entry onto "open land" (Sec. 1(a)). "Open land " appears to be land not within an incorporated city, town, or similar development (Sec. 1(d)(ii)). That appears to include parks, public grasslands, etc. that are not on private land. If that is right then the statute could apply to entry onto public lands.

What am I not correctly understanding?

Thanks for the suggestion.

How does the adapter attach to the 804RC2? There is no screw hole in the 804RC2 head and the adapter doesn't seem to be designed to clamp into the head like RC2 plate.

Thanks.

I have a Manfrotto 804RC2 tripod head. It is, of course, a pan/tilt head. I like the pan/tilt feature for some applications, but would prefer to have a head that takes an arca-swiss quick release plate and L-bracket. Preferrably for under $200.

I am having trouble finding a head that meets those specs. I have found lots of ballheads that are arca-swiss compatible, but the pan/tilt heads I have found are either way more expensive than $200 or look cheap.

Does anyone have any suggestions for an arca-swiss compatible pan/tilt head for under $200?

Thanks.
