I recently got a Nikon D3200 as a Christmas present. I also somehow stumbled across this site and was amazed at the information and knowledge to be found here. I use to dabble in film photograph back in the 1970s while in the US Navy. I have a Pentax K2 at the time. These new DLRSs are a whole new ball game. Lots to learn and fun to be had.

I took these shots on the 15th during the full eclipse. You can see the bright star Spica (the brightest star in the constellation of Virgo) just to the Moon’s lower right, and the much fainter star h Virginis just above and to the left of the Moon.

The eclipse in my location started out with clear skies, but a thin layer of high clouds moved in after the first half hour. It made for a soft focus effect.

This was my first attempt to photograph a Lunar Eclipse with my DSLR.

It's a video game clip, not real. But cool none the less.

Hey George,

The actual picture is nicely exposed. I just can't see any details, when viewing the moon, in "Live View". I just have a big white blob. I have to focus through the view finder and that is hard to see when looking at the moon. sarge 69 mention that his d7100 allow him to adjust the iso of the Live View. I don't see that option on the D3200.

Not true Gene51. The picture was fine. Just a Live View issue. I was able to sort of focus through the view finder. I will see it I can adjust the Live View parameter as sarge69 suggested. Thanks input.

I have a question about "live view". How to you see to focus. On my D3200 Live View the moon is so bright it is washed out and I can't see any detail to focus on?

Cybermomm, Very nice. We had high thin clouds all night, that moved in and out. I have not yet processed my pictures. Maybe tonight.

Yea, we have a fair amount of coyotes too, but they usually only hunt at night. My cats aren't let out until after sunup and are trained to come in at 5PM. We also have a cat door so they can get into the garage.

My cats do not do well on a harness. They are indoor/outdoor cats and pretty much stay in the yard, during the day, on their own. They always come in before sunset in the evening.
