The topic of generic vs OEM batteries came up again yesterday. That encouraged me to do a search. You can buy two generic EN-EL 15b batteries with a charger for $33. Or, see below for other battery prices. Yes, I realize that the construction of each is different, but still.

I found Nikon OEM Batteries on eBay brand new for roughly $30.00. It was gray market but OEM Nikon. It works fine. OEM lasts and lasts others do not IMHO.

Thanks to all for your suggestions......

Test & Try with what I have and then build from there.

Cool concept if I can pull it off.

Looking for some advice. Trying to create a swishing effect for my grandsons as they attempt to hit baseballs at bat. Nikon D7100 18-140MM f/3.5-5.6 on a tripod. The shots would be in AM daylight. I would shoot at f/16 and test & try different shutter speeds with varying filter settings. Do you think this will work? Almost like light trails at night but with out of focus movement of the bat as they take a complete swing. Holiday gift to be framed! Any suggestions?

Thanks so much!

I have been taking photos of my 6 grandkids for over 20 years, however, the pictures I take with my Nikon SB-800 are terribly under or over exposed. In all honesty, I don't take many flash photos with this equipment. So, my question is this, what are the best overall camera settings to get good quality flash photos with my D7100 and SB-800? I would really like to take better flash photos. Any suggestions would be appreciated, thanks! Frank

Has anyone perhaps discussed the differences in depth of field when comparing a full frame camera to a cropped format camera? My example would be Nikon DX versus Nikon FX.

Good Golly Miss Molly!!! The gold standard of photography done right has changed, at least, the paper has a different weight and finish! I noticed it a bit slowly probably consistent with my age but… As with any change I don’t like it. At least not yet. Is nothing sacred? I pawed through the magazine looking for an explanation or apology but found nothing. Is there therapy if me? I have a BIG bookcase with every issue from January 1940 to present. This new magazine is a lot lighter. Sigh…

I worked in the paper industry for (39) years. The issues could be due to the lack of availability. Many large producers have permanently shuddered their factories in the USA. Technology has impacted the industry making it a bit of a buggy whip technology being overtaken by tablets, computers & phones. Readership could also be down putting pressure on their costs of doing business. Lighter basis weights mean less pounds to print & mail.

Going to Norway. I'm pretty sure I can't take both. When I compare the same photos taken at the same time of day, the faithful Nikon just seems to stand out more. I know the weight of the cameras is a factor to consider. When you travel with your camera do you consider it a carry-on or can you put it under the seat in front of you?

I have the D7100 & the 18-140MM. Love it for travel & low light at iso 1600 is very good. Amazing what you can capture by processing raw images if you shoot both or switch for a tough shot. jpegs are fine for most travel shots but the more difficult exposures make the raws a must with your two storage slots.

I would guess I am not the first to ask this.

I would like a basic beginner book for 13-15 year old grandchildren so they can have some understanding of the fundamentals.

Recommendations??? Many thanks in advance.

"Stunning Digital Photography" by Tony Northrup with many video links and access to their website as well. Many Youtube subject related training videos. Lot's of photos in the book.

You have deep expertise. I do back ups and have a cloud back up, but still feel like I don't fully understand the whole process and what is cutting edge. Perhaps some education or a web site or something? I imagine a posting would be quite a lot of work. But I think we all would benefit.

I need to buy an extra battery for a Nikon D750. Battery is EN-EL15 or EN-EL15A. The OEM Nikon battery is quite expensive ($69 at B&H).

There are other suppliers through Amazon that have better prices and are likely good batteries. One is Wasabi (2 for $26) another is a no-name, but highly rated (1 for $17).

Are after-market batteries worth buying? Any recommended brands? Thanks!

https://www.ebay.com/sch/i.html?_from=R40&_trksid=p2380057.m570.l1311&_nkw=nikon+battery+en-el15&_sacat=0 I purchased the one for $22.99 looks like a gray market battery but so far so good.

About 3 years ago I spoke to an employee of a local camera store about 3rd party batteries, afterwards I purchased a double battery charger and 2 Enegon batteries, total cost with tax under $30.00.
I have 2 Nikon DSLR'S & 2 battery grips. both take the same battery. This gave me, 4 Nikon batteries and 2 3rd party.
I don't really need 6 batteries, just wanted to be prepared just in case.
So about 6-8 months later 1 of the 3rd party batteries swelled up and got stuck in my D810, had to have it removed by Mike's Camera, (great people btw).
I contacted the seller and after some very unneeded conversations, they sent me a new one under warranty.
Since then I have only used those a couple times and have never stored a camera with one in it.
Yesterday I decided to check all my batteries and charge a couple, in less than 20 minutes the charger (which is a double 3rd party) started smoking, so that charger and both 3rd party batteries will be deposed off. (Properly).
Now I have 3 non-Nikon lenses, and 5 Nikkors, I love them, they work as they should, and I will continue to use and probably purchase non oem lenses, but, I will be buying a couple Nikon batteries this month at $70.00 each. 7x the cost of the 3rd party ones. But why would a battery cost 7x as much? Just for the Nikon name? I would definitely have to agree they are better. But 7x, makes it hard for people like me (living on disability) to afford a photography addiction.
No real point here, just passing on my experience with Enegon batteries and charger.

The auto focus on this (oldie, but a goodie), has stopped functioning for me.
Instead of paying out the bucks to get a repair, I think I'll just find a nice
D5600 Nikon to replace it, so I can also take some video, when the need arises.

Question: Since I have 4 other Nikon lenses, (including telephoto). If I purchase a new Nikon 5600,
will any of my old lenses work on the new camera?

I was planning on buying a new telephoto lenes for the 5600, but if the old telephoto will work
(auto focus), I won't be in such a hurry to buy a new one right away.
Thanks

I work with Elements and they have an automated tool but it has shortfalls as well. Using the "refined edge tool" takes time and your tree could give you a migraine Tim Grey has some great videos on how to use the refined edge tool. Google should find it or Youtube. It fine tunes your layer mast. I shoot candids of our grandchildren and use it to change my backgrounds.

This worked ok but it took quite a bit of time. Enlarge the images to review the edges. I had to open some eyes as well, also automated in Elements. It becomes easier with practice. The marketing hype makes it seem so easy but complex images take time to clean it up.
