I need to buy an extra battery for a Nikon D750. Battery is EN-EL15 or EN-EL15A. The OEM Nikon battery is quite expensive ($69 at B&H).

There are other suppliers through Amazon that have better prices and are likely good batteries. One is Wasabi (2 for $26) another is a no-name, but highly rated (1 for $17).

Are after-market batteries worth buying? Any recommended brands? Thanks!

My personal preference is OEM. The only reason is if something happens to the camera as a result of the battery, Nikon can't brush it aside as it wasn't their battery that caused the problem.

I have used Wasabi for years with good success on a D750 and other Nikons with no harm to any camera and performance equal to OEM. Am not positive, but I think they are all still working. Their chargers are small and convenient for travel, smaller than the Nikon ones.

For me, I feel that with all the money I spent on the camera, why go cheap with 3rd party batteries.

I have used Wasabi and their chargers for multiple cameras for maybe 10 years. I have had other unknown brands that died unexpectedly. If any battery starts to swell stop using it.

I have the same philosophy regarding lenses, as well, including a good argument for doing so.

OEM Nikon only. Not enough price difference for me to go aftermarket especially on a $1000 camera

Agree absolutely on lenses - batteries not at all. Have several different Nikons and at least 3 batteries for each. That would be a considerable sum if all were OEM, and my experience across time with Wasabi has been excellent. I've actually had Nikon batteries fail, so far, not a Wasabi, at least that I can recall. This is one of those "Article of Faith" issues!

My issue with after-market batteries stems from my engineering background. We always played what-if games. So, we have an after market battery in a multi-thousand-dollar camera. The battery swells to the point of getting stuck in the camera or to the point of rupturing and depositing its innards in the camera.

In that scenario, arguing with the OEM camera manufacturer is going to be a very steep uphill battle. If an OEM batter did the same, the discussion might go a bit easier.

Sure, there are some who will testify that they never had a problem with after-market batteries. But, all it takes is one and flush one's camera down the drain.

In short, yes, if you do your due diligence research. check the preponderance (ie.85%+) of buyer feedback. It's not about buying on the cheap it's about getting your money's worth. I've had great experience with Wasabi.

I have five aftermarket batteries. No problems.
Lost one to age, about 8-10 years.
Replaced it with another aftermarket.

I use Wasabi batteries in Lumix cameras. No issues. They work fine.

Regardless whose battery you use, don't leave it in the camera when it is not in use, and store it at around 50% charge (40-60%) if not needed within the week. Don't leave it on charge all the time.

They like to be used... Rechargeables are going to die in five years or so, anyway, so you might as well use them hard and often.

Even on UHH (where many have a fetish with OEM gear) I have yet to hear of any such disaster caused by an aftermarket battery.

Noticed that, eh?

But they probably get batteries at K-Mart for their car.
