I traveled to Italy for two weeks a few years ago with a Nikon D7000 and took three lenses. Nikon 12-24, Sigma 24-70 2.8 and Nikon 50 1.4. It worked for me. The 12-24 was the most used. Have fun.

I always look at the sellers rating. look at the number of sales and anything under 99% makes me apprehensive.

I just upgraded to a Nikon D7200. I initially was choosing between a Nikon D750 and a D500. After listening to some excellent advice on this forum I took a careful look at photographs from all three cameras and realized I could not clearly differentiate between the quality of the photographs from the three cameras. I am happy with my decision and plan to use the money saved to buy a new Tamron 70-200.
I also realize many people on this site can appreciate the difference in the photographs, but until my perceptual skills improve I will stick with the D7200-D7100 cameras.

You stated your budget was about $500-$600 at the moment. B&H sells a new Nikon D7200 for $696.95 and you will receive a gift card for $13.94. I bought one a couple of months ago and the camera is fantastic. At the time I also received accessories worth approximately $50.00. Check it out.

Which is better, the Nikon D7500 or D7200. I need a new camera.

I just did this. I received a lot of great suggestions, did a lot of research, compared many photographs side by side and bought a new D7200 for $695 with accessories. I am exceptionally happy with my choice. Don't spend more on the D7500. You could not look at a photograph and figure out which camera was used.

Exactly. I like good Scotch, (not too peaty like Iā€™m guessing he had), and I like good bourbon. Jim Beam is mediocre bourbon.

I took a trip to Lexington Kentucky a couple of years ago and since I like scotch I thought I would try to develop a taste for Bourbon. I went to a downtown bar and confessed my ignorance and my desire to learn what good Bourbon was like. The first question I was asked was "What Bourbon have you tried". My answer was "my only Bourbon experience is with Jack Daniels." Holy shit, I was told by everyone in the bar that "Jack Daniels is not Bourbon but rather it was some crappy tasting poison from Tennessee." The people felt so sorry for my ignorance that no one assaulted me and many people bought me sample of their favorite Bourbon. I ended up favoring Four Roses Single Batch.

You bought a NEW D7200 for $700? Who had new for that price? I just bought a used unit with 2584 clicks on it. My other used and refurbed D5300 had 50 clicks on it. Both looked like new. I had KEH send me a second battery so that I would be prepared for battery drain. The first thing I noticed was that the control panel stays on ALL the time. I am looking to see if I can shut it off on the menu or remove the battery. Not sure how long the battery will last between use.

I have never had the pleasure of owning a new DSLR, but your methodology makes sense for a new purchase. I am also a manual reader and I like to have the camera in hand when I do. Reading the manual on a large computer screen is easier for that method than fiddling with the small Nikon manuals.

I never thought about a "new to me" unboxing ritual, but I think it's important to reset the camera to factory defaults when you're buying used and also checking to make sure the latest firmware is installed. This might even be important for a brand new camera depending on where you purchase it and how fast their inventory moves.

When I bought my latest used camera, I didn't test it with the Tamron lens that came with it, I tested it with a Nikon lens that I knew worked correctly on my previous camera. If I found an issue, I wanted to be sure I could isolate it to the body. Also, with a used camera I really try to put it through it's paces, feature wise; things like the live feed and manual focus switches, the mirror up position, etc.

Since I shoot a great deal of figure work, I find that any equipment purchase is a great reason to schedule a boudoir session.

Excellent- This opens up an entirely new conversation. Do you use a pancake or telephoto lens?

Forget the camera, what Scotch?

At the moment, I am finishing 2 fingers of Glenfiddich 15 yr neat.

Glenmorangie Quinta Ruban 12 Year Single Malt - Cost is steep but I only buy a new camera once every 8-10 years.
I think I accidentally discovered a common but under emphasized reason to buy new photo equipment. But---------What do we do with a new lens purchase.

So what camera did you end up getting?

Long story but I needed a new camera to replace my D7000 for an upcoming trip. Could not decide on an ultimate camera for now so I bought a D7200. For less then $700 I thought it was a bargain. Now I have a year to save up and decide.
