I have a post running titled "Nikon Help Needed". This post asked for suggestions on buying a new Nikon camera. With all the help I received I ordered a new camera Sunday morning. I got a call this morning saying it would be delivered tomorrow. It just arrived a day early and I decided that getting a new camera is a special occasion.
I opened the large box and first unpacked the accessories that came with the camera. Next, I took out the camera box and put it on the table. I then opened a bottle of single malt 12 year old scotch, poured myself a glass, sat in the living room and began the opening process; which I am doing as I write this topic. First I want to say thank you to all the people who helped with camera selection comments on my initial post and secondly I wanted to hear if others have an interesting unpacking ritual.

The first thing you want to do is extract the battery and the charger. Put them together and let them do their thing while you finish your glass (or bottle).

Cameras are packed in a way that you can open the box and put everything back just as new. You don't need to break any seal. So when I open a new camera I keep everything and note how they go together so I can repack them back just as they came.

I think you have a good unpacking process in place, every step makes sense to me.

Important: Do not operate a camera while intoxicated or impaired.

So what camera did you end up getting?

So, I guess that this means that turning the box upside down and shaking it is NOT the proper way to unpack a new camera? Sure wish you had posted this sooner!

Long story but I needed a new camera to replace my D7000 for an upcoming trip. Could not decide on an ultimate camera for now so I bought a D7200. For less then $700 I thought it was a bargain. Now I have a year to save up and decide.

Forget the camera, what Scotch?

At the moment, I am finishing 2 fingers of Glenfiddich 15 yr neat.

I think the Scotch is a fitting accompanyment to the opening of the new camera box.

Or, you could take a few quick cell phone shots of the box, contents, etc so you can reverse the unpack/pack routine. Just a thought.

BTW: Whenever I take something apart that is unfamiliar or has lots of parts, I generally take cell phone pics to help me get it back together properly.

Seems that you care more about drinking than unpacking. I wonder if you were sober writing this post.
