I'll tell you how old I am. I usually shoot half the game from lst base and the other half from third. I was so tired after walking from the parking lot to the front gate of the stadium I said to myself, myself how about I shoot from only 3rd. The kid I was paid to photograph luck have it had a two for four at the plate so he had a lot of action around second and third. The lady bought 25 shots, unreal. Her friend bought 7. Bishop Gorman has their own so-called photographer but she does shitty work. So be it the tale..

I usually try and go from first base side to third a few time to try to get faces of batters when they are up to bat. It's a bitch for me to walk around to each side, so I try and spread it out (2 innings) a side. I love first base side shooting you get better view of field from that side. Most of the time for me from third base side usually the coach gets in the way. I wish I could get someone to ask me to shoot their son/daughter in a game. I haven't figured out how to get my info about games I shoot on schools twitter page. I thought I had it but the game I just shot I posted a tweet then went back in and looked and my tweet wasn't there. I think I could sell a lot of photos if I could get on there and tell everyone to go and look. A shitty photographer well!! LOL. Most of the photographers that shoots at my games are shitty also. But they give away FREE photos sometimes hard to compete with free no matter how bad they are. Hope to get out to at least 2-3 events this week. Will see what happens. Talked to Brandon, told him I had not been well for 5-6 months and didn't think I would make the 25 galleries this year so I wouldn't get my credentials. He said he would make a note so when the time comes to order again he would take that into consideration. He's a good man. Well, I will let you go. Keep posting those awesome photos you shoot I really look forward to all your work friend. Thanks BE SAFE!!

I was fortunate to shoot at The Ballpark here in Las Vegas. It's home to Oakland A's farm team.
Beautiful place. The downfall is the photographers box is further away from the action than a regular school field. I used the D4 with 200-500 5.6 almost the entire game for the reach. Even at third base shots 200mm was ok and not to close.
1/3200 at 5.6 or 6.3
Auto white balance
Auto Iso around 1000-2500
Cleaned the noise up with Topaz Denoise

You old guys crack me up! LOL These are just more of your exceptional photos. To be so far away you did well. Went to Max to look at the rest of your last galleries. AWESOME. Thanks BE SAFE!!

Historically, only the professional 1-series EOS cameras supported auto focus for lenses with maximum apertures smaller than f/5.6. Beginning with the EOS 5DIII release in 2012, Canon has extended the ability to autofocus at f/8 into an increasing number of newer EOS DSLR cameras, now including all 1D series models, the 5DIII, 5DIV, 5DS, 5DS-R, 7DII, 80D, 77D, and Rebel T7i. These Canon EOS bodies feature high density, high precision auto-focus sensors with 45 or more AF points.

Canon L-series lenses share a number of common characteristics. L lenses tend to be more durable, incorporating dust and water-resistant rubber seals in most models. L lenses also contain optics of higher quality, with many lenses containing aspherically ground, fluorite or ultra-low dispersion glass elements. Their front elements do not rotate for the proper operation of some filters, such as circular polarizers. L lenses are often "fast", with maximum apertures commonly f/2.8 or f/4 and never exceeding f/5.6. Prime lenses have a much greater maximum aperture, such as Canon's current 50mm and 85mm L lenses which open to f/1.2. All current L-series lenses have ultrasonic autofocus motors (USM) and extra communication pins, except for the specialist tilt-shift lenses which do not provide autofocus.

Yes, I recognize the 'agedness' of this topic, a discussion of SLR / DSLR technology in 2024, now a few years into the mirrorless revolution.

The EF 300mm f/2.8 lens refers to a family of 300mm telephoto prime lenses made by Canon going back to manual focus versions first released in 1974. The lens is commonly used by sports and wildlife photographers, but is short enough for use in extreme close-up portraits. Because of its rather high native magnification, the EF 300L can also be used for macro type photography.

Introduced in 1987, the EF lens mount is the standard lens mount on the Canon EOS family of SLR film and digital SLR cameras. EF stands for "Electro-Focus". Automatic focusing on EF lenses is handled by a dedicated electric motor built into the lens. Mechanically, it is a bayonet-style mount, and all communication between camera and lens takes place through electrical contacts; there are no mechanical levers or plungers.

When using Canon extenders, Canon recommends the Series III extender be attached first to the lens, before attaching the whole unit to the camera. This ensures the combined lens information is transmitted correctly to the EOS camera to provide the optimum image quality and focus performance.

The Canon EF 500mm f/4L IS II USM was released in 2011. All images employ the EF 2x III Extender extending the focal length by 2x to 1000mm. The Series III Extenders (also commonly called teleconverters) have an integrated microcomputer designed specifically for use with compatible Canon IS Supertelephoto Series II lenses, such as the 500L.

In 1999 Canon released the first f/4 version of the 500L adding camera shake correction (IS - Image Stabilization) effective to 2-stops in terms of shutterspeed.

Canon's super telephoto lenses have a secondary IS mode that automatically senses when a tripod is being used and, at shutter speeds between 1/30th and 1 second, adjusts to compensate for mirror slap, shutter and other subtle tripod-based vibrations. The IS system automatically disables itself during tripod use when shutter speeds longer than 1 second are used. The images shown here were all captured with the 500L mounted to a gimbal head on a tripod stationed at the water's edge on the shore of Lake Michigan in Chicago, IL. The 700mm effective focal length can provide relatively "close" images of single planes and individual parachutists performing over the lake.

Is printing to metal a good choice for wildlife?

This is the first time I will be using Bay Photo to print my bird picture on metal.
I have read everything I can on the subject and still have questions?
1. Not sure if I should print to canvas or metal for wildlife?
2. High Gloss, Mid-Gloss, Satin, Sheer Glossy, Sheer Satin, & Textured
3. Which is better a floating back which pulls the picture from the wall or just wire hang it?
4. I was thinking of going with the rounded corners and no frame?
I have attached a photo of what Iā€™m thinking of printing.
Like to hear your thoughts and advise

You're probably a lot more tuned into that situation than I am. I have one question, though. How do you take a log, warped board and plane it down? Don't you loose too much of the board trying to flatten it? I'm admitting to you, Tom, that I don't know much about of this stuff. In the case here, most of those side boards has a pretty pronounced warp to them.

Tom

Usually even with the warp you can plane down to usable wood. Some maybe shorter pieces but still usable. Thanks BE SAFE!!

I'm with you on this, Frank.

I don't think that there's enough good salvageable wood to even attract the wood scavengers. Generally, the agreement with those scavengers is that they have to take everything...they can't come in and cherry pick just what they want. The cost to tear it all down and haul it away would probably be prohibitive.

I disagree there is plenty of wood to salvage. This kind of wood is very expensive to buy after planing it etc. Well worth the cost of tearing down. Also these are hard to find anymore as people have been tearing down for the wood for awhile now. Thanks BE SAFE!!

I stopped at a house about 200 yards from the barn. Got permission to enter the property to get these shots.

Tom too bad it has got to the point of being a danger if someone goes in. The stories it could probably tell. I would for safety reasons tear it down (SO SAD). Take down and plane all the boards and cut to make perfect wood. The wood from these old buildings is SUPERB!! and expensive. Can be used for all kinds of things. furniture, coffee table, kitchen table, wine rack, wall art, headboards, shelves, etc. The list is endless. Awesome photos. Keep it up friend. Thanks BE SAFE!!
