This is the type that I have: http://www.camptime.com/collections/ultralight-and-ultraportable-camp-time-products/products/ultralight-roll-a-chair

It's just 26" long when folded up ( the back folds downwards alongside the legs). Light and easy. It wouldn't fit carry-on baggage, but checked should not be a problem.

Good luck

Thank you all so much for your help. I will check out your links. Would like something with some type of back support as my back is not as good as it used to be. But still folds up small enough to put in checked bag on trips.

Went down to see if any birds had started migrating thru but day was very windy and cold. I think they were in hiding to stay warm.

I was at Henderson Bird Preserve a couple days ago and an elderly gentleman was using one of these. He was using his Camera with 150-600 lens on a tripod while he was seated on the Cane Seat. He said that he got it for travel as due to health issues he can't stand for long periods of time. It was his first time trying photos with it. Curious to know if anyone here has used one or something similar when out in the field for long periods of time? How sturdy and steady are they? He was seated straddled on it with the cane handle in front of him. He said he used it that way because he needed the cane to help him get up and down. He said it was easy to use as a cane and folded down easy for sitting on. Is there a better option for one that may have a back on it that folds up small enough to put in a checked bag on a plane that would be super sturdy? The one he was using did not fold down. He said he used it in his car for travel. Since I have back issues this looked very interesting to me for those long hours in the field.

Thanks for the encouragement Mark and oldtigger. I do listen to Douglass. He has been very helpful to me on other forums here on UHH. The one thing about him for me, is that he doesn't talk down to me when I ask for help. He just gives the information in terms that I can understand usually with a photo showing what he is explaining.

I'm finding this type of photography is addictive. I will keep at until I get much better. Meanwhile all advice is much appreciated.

Thank you so much. I tried your advice and this is what I got with my first attempt. Can't believe the difference.

My sister-in-law just texted me this website. They visit St Marks often, www.stmarksrefuge.org and on facebook www.facebook.com/SMSVNWRS, I haven't had a chance to check either site out yet but will do so later today.

Thank you so much. I have to admit this is all confusing to me right now, but I am determined to get the hang of it.

Thanks for the info on the 1:1 ratio. I went into the camera menu and reset it to this for my next practice session. It was set on 3:2. It made a huge difference. I just shot a ceramic bird in bookcase to see what the difference looked like.
