Starting Feb.17, the wife and I are heading to the panhandle of Florida (Panama City), for two weeks. Any body know of some places that might be good photo opportunities?

Mike, you are in luck. UHH member "zuzanne" just posted the same question today. I'll bet if you search (based on her name) and go to her profile page, you can use UHH's PM (private message) system to get in touch with her. Then you folks can compare notes, suggestions, photo ops, etc.

Down town Pensacola, Naval Air Station Pensacola has a 185 step Lighthouse you can visit, and the Naval Air Museum, Navarre Beach near Pensacola, Pensacola Beach, Fort Pickens at the National Park at west end of Pensacola beach, marinas throughout northwest Florida, Blackwater State Park just northeast of Milton, FL, beaches all along the north gulf coast.

As I suggested to zuzanne, St. Mark's Wildlife Refuge. I schedule a couple of days there every visit to family in Tallahassee.

I have not been for several years, but I know there is a State Park, off Thomas Drive. Years ago, it was the beach's best kept secret. Quiet, not many tourist, and good chance to see dolphins. Also, they have Dolphin tours and sunset cruises, that offer beautiful sunsets. Enjoy your trip. It is a beautiful beach! lWhile it is not exactly in the Panhandle, don't miss the St. Mark's National Wildlife Reserve, one of the great birding areas of Florida. The Gulf Island National Seashore is famous as well.

I suggest Fort Pickens, a very interesting historical place; and, a campground too. About as far west as you can go in Florida.

P.S. Peg Leg Pete's is a restaurant just west of Pensacola Beach (on Ft. Pickens Rd.) that serves raw oysters for $00.50 each on Wednesdays, YUM

Great seaside national park between Navarre and Pensacola for natural shots of ocean and beautiful white sand beach without any condos or houses. This time of the year there will not be many tourists here. While touring you might get hungry so a fun stop would be McGuire's in Destin or Pensacola and the Coffee Cup restaurant in Pensacola. Its just like going into a cafe in the '50s-'60s. Have fun, you won't run out of things to shoot.

I'm in the Panhandle, located near Destin. I'm a consultant to the tourism industry. It depends what sort of subject you're looking for. We have everything from pristine beaches and unique dune lakes, wildlife areas through to aircraft museums, fishing harbors, tourist areas, dolphin tours and eco-tourism.

Let me know what sort of subjects you're looking for and I'll point you in the right direction.

The Naval Air Museum in Pensacola is great (about a two hour drive west of Panama City). Beautiful beaches all along the area offer good sea, sand and related photo ops. As a couple of others noted, this is definitely off-season so you'll have the run of the town and beaches.

The Naval Air Museum is a must see, it will take a couple of days to cover it but worth while. If you can find the Trader Johns Bar museum that might be another place to go. I heard a group of lawyers bought out the furnishings from the original and were setting it up as a museum. Loads of old artifacts going back to the early days of Naval Aviation.

Go to instagram and do a search for #topsailhillpreservestatepark. You will see some possibilities. The beaches different every day, so you never know what you're going to get but it can surprise you.

Just remember, you can't stand on the ground in Florida and shoot anything from a vantage point of 345 feet, plus your height, above sea level in Florida. That's the top of Britton Hill.
