I used DOS or Windows my entire career because that was what was provided to me at work. When i retired in 2014 i was looking for a low cost decent notebook and found my used 2009 Macbook pro for $300 from someone upgrading. My experience is that the Mac computers just run with no crashes and no problems with viruses or malware. No surprises. I liked it so much that i bought a used 2010 Mac Pro Desktop. 6 core processor hyper threaded to 12 cores. Used $400. A company was upgrading their server so i snagged it up. I use the latest versions of Lightroom and Photoshop with no issues whatsoever. All of my apple products (iPhone, iPad, Mackbook Pro and Mac pro ) all stay updated automatically with one another.

I will admit that it took about a week to get used to the platform compared to windows.

In my case, it was HP laptops that had motherboard de-lamination apparently from internal overheating. A buddy of mine also had the same problem.

I understand but that was a cooling problem with HP, de-lamination will stop a freight train. That can't be blamed on Windows but more likely on insufficient air flow.

Every Windows item I ever owned burned out in 18 months, or less. Every Apple item I ever owned lasted 7 years, or longer. Reason enough for me.

Just curious but what Windows product, items, specifically burned out in 18 months or less and how were you using them. I have been using Windows for over 10 years with never a "burnout". I just happened to start out with a PC and haven't made a change as of yet but I do like the screens on the Macs.

If you could arrange a meet with a member on this wonderful site, who would it be?

I've had the great fortune of meeting several UHH members in person in Yellowstone along with their wives. We have become very good friends and always look forward to future meetings in the park. There are many more that I would love to meet and pick their brains and almost all of those have already been mentioned.

Hi
I have a 2019 IMac 27" I5 with a 2TB fusion drive and 40GB RAM. I seem to have a longer than expected delay in going from LR Classic to PS 2019, both updated to latest versions. Also, delays when using some bruh functions. I can purchase 2X 16GB to replace the 2X 8GB and have a total of 64GB. I have already replace two slots with 2x 16GB. The cost of this is approximately $200.00, and I can install this myself.
I have a 2TB fusion drive. To replace this with a 2TB SSD would cost approximately $300.00 and whatever is the cost to have a pro install it. I will not attempt to do this myself! Is there a possibility that I do not have the "fusion" portion of the drive appropriately set up for this handoff between the two programs?
My goal is to get more performance, at least preceived performance, in LR and PS.
Any suggestions are appreciated.
Thanks
Marty
PS. I do not work on any video files, if that makes any difference.

I have been using Gatorplast lately. It’s like Gator board but the faces are plastic instead of paper so there is absolutely no warping. I print on glossy stock, then laminate with high gloss polyester film (Drytac) both sides of the print, round the corners, then mount on 3/16” Gator board cut about an inch and a half smaller than the print. A 3/4” stack of Gatorboard scraps at three places on the mount provide standoff and either VHB foam tape or Command strips for sticking to walls.
Look like metal prints, but with even wider color gamut.

That's the same stuff that my lab offers too, very light and I've never had a single problem with it. Great suggestion!

My wife is also a retired nurse and she too had carpal tunnel, both hands, and got it fixed 14 years ago with surgery. She has "trigger finger" in one hand but overall no problems holding or carrying her camera. Is that an option. Again, good luck!

I heard on the news yesterday that a little girl was attacked by a bison. I sincerely hope that people will abide by the recommendations to be wary of all wild animals rather than some fool wanting them fenced in or some such.

Some, no many people aren't aware that late July and the month of August is the prime breeding time for bison. I fear the bison more then any other animal in Yellowstone, very fast and can turn on a dime too! I saw the video and I think the park should go after the little girls parents and fine them. Several years ago I watched in harrow as a woman walked up to s sitting bull bison near Old Faithful and petted him not once but twice and no this was not a foreigner. Her boyfriend or husband didn't get it recorded on his cell phone the first time.

I am looking for some recommendations on how I can carry my camera which is attached to my tripod.I am a small, older, women & can not lift my camera attached to my tripod over my shoulder.I am looking for something with wheels that I can push with my camera & tripod. So all I have to do is lift it out of the cart & set it up.I don’t think they make such a thing,do they? If so please let me know!

What camera, lens, and tripod are you talking about? Don't laugh but do you do any physical activity with your upper body to strengthen your arms? You can get padding for the upper tripod legs that makes carrying much easier. Are you shooting a long prime or what? I keep my legs (tripod) extended when carrying for several reasons, first for balance and second so I can put it down an be ready to shoot. I carry a large CF tripod with either a 300mm f/2.8 or a 600mm f/4.0 with a 1.4 extender and a pro body all attached. I'll make a few suggestions you can think about. First, if your not already using a quick disconnect between your camera and tripod, get one, I use Accra Swiss. Next, get a good wide camera strap for carrying your camera over your shoulder and either carry your tripod by hand or a Black Rapid strap to carry the tripod and you'll have both hands free. I sure hope you get some answers here so that you won't have to give up on your photography and my last thoughts would be to get a lighter camera or to just forgo the tripod and maybe try a monopod even though I'm not a fan of monopods. Best of luck! Sorry, just read some of your reply's and what I just said won't help.

Drove to YNP in mid June of this year. Went in hopes of avoiding the crowds but that was not the case. A variety of weather as you can imagine.....rain, wind and snow. Oh yes, can't forget the mosquitoes. These images are of Mammoth Hot Springs. Some say the hot springs are drying up while others disagree. If you get the chance, by all means go to Mammoth. Be sure to check out download mode for better detail.

How did you find parking, in June. I was there too and it was packed! Rangers were ticketing vehicles that parked and blocked the marked parking spaces. Lots of parking at about 6:30 AM but not the best shooting light. BTW, very nice composition in your shots. Going back in Sept and Oct and even though less daylight also hoping for less people, LOL.

I would like input on good lens for a Canon for capturing flying birds.

Look up Regis here and look at what he has done with the 400mm DO and now with a 300mm f/2.8. As others have said, the 400mm f/5.6 is a very sharp lens but many complain it's not good enough only because it does not have IS. I think the 100-400 II or the 400mm f5.6 would be the way to go starting out.

Interesting, I have an EOS R but have not had a chance yet to try use for BIF, I traded for it, I was kind of waiting for the next iteration of the R to come out but I had gear that I was not using and traded for the current camera. Before I had a Fuji X-T2 that I don't think would have been good for BIF. For BIF I have a Canon 5IV and a 5Sr but focusing is not as good as it could be on the 5sr but when it locks and you get focused images they are fantastic.

I have the same question too as to being able to find the BIF if you loose it in the finder. Tony Northrup did a review on the Sony A9 and the new 600mm f/4.0 lens and that was one of the cons he listed. As advise to the OP, I'd wait until September and see what Canon has to offer. I started with the 7D and due to noise moved up to the 7DMK2 and although it was an improvement it really didn't do for me all that they said it would. The 7DMK2 is a great camera and one of the things I like better over my 1DXMK2 is the lack of shutter noise. Birds jump and Hummingbirds fly at the sound of the 1DXMK2's shutter. I do get more pixels of my subject with the 7 over the 1 as they are both about 21MP sensors do to the crop. If you go to the 5DMKIV you will have to get closer which is always a good idea anyway but you will loose some of your reach. Your going to be spending your money so even though a new model will be out I'd still wait a few months and look at all the review on before I jumped.
