I have a Z50 and love it - I have used it with an f2.8 24-70mm F lens to shoot H S Basketball. It really surprised me with the IQ and it could shoot at 11FPS. Almost as good as my D5. It had FAR LESS NOISE at ISO's above 10,000. Has a few quirks I have to get use too. Other than that, I'm sold on this little wonder.

You mean that Z50 is better than Full frame D5 at high ISO?
I am just curious.

I need some advice. I pulled the GAS trigger today on a Nikon FF camera to replace my D7500. I'm not a pro. I shoot landscape, still life, and things that don't talk back. I have a full assortment of crop sensor lens, but no FF lens other than a 50mm/1.8. I bought a 24-85 f2.8-f4 Macro to go with the camera. If you had a limited budget, what lens would you get beyond the two I'll have? I enjoy milky way shots, light painting, macro stuff, flowers, waterfalls, and "artsey" stuff. Any suggestions are welcome. FWIW, I've have done two weddings (don't care for the pressure) and I've done a couple of office parties (free drinks). I don't mind manual focus lenses, used lenses, or refurbs if I can return if they've seen their useful life. Thanks for the help. I really do appreciate all the comments even they are a little painful.

You need two lenses: wide angle and telephoto lens. For wide angle lens I can recommend Nikon 17-35mm f2.8. It's older pro grade lens, it's a little heavy, but very well made, almost all metal. I replaced all my primes with this lens and I like it. It's very expensive if you buy new which I don't recommend. You can find a good copy for under $500. You can read about it here:

For tele 80-200 2.8 is very good but very heavy. I would go with 70-300 VR, it's not heavy and very sharp, VR works very well. Auto focus fast and almost silent.

If making pretty pictures is your end goal, I suppose you’re right. But to me photography is about telling stories. That extra percent of dynamic range doesn’t get me there.

I have a D40X that is at least 12 years old. I have the 18-55 that came with it and also the 55-200VR. Weight is also important because of rotator cuff problem.

I added Fiji to my Nikons DSLR more than 2 years ago. Still not sure which one I like more, they are very different but both very good, it's what you personally like more, but since you already have 18-55 and 55-200 it makes sense to go with …….. .

I have always used fixed aperture lens. I know that the variable ones are less expensive BUT what are your opinions of sharpness and construction quality?

The construction quality of fixed apertute zooms is better that zooms with variable aperture, often much better. As far as sharpness, in my experience by F8 sharpness is the same.

the 610 is a very affordable and capable camera.
Not a world beater in total performance, but it's
an excellent bang for the buck.

"Advisors" may question your "need" for FF, but
no one actually NEEDS a FF SLR, not even the
working photographers. You want it ? Your bills
are paid ? Buy it.

Need an opinion regarding the purchase of a new D610. My local photo store has the Nikon D610 (from Nikon Canada) with 50 mm 1.8 lens and battery grip on for about $900 US, but only until tomorrow. I have a number of older Nikon AI and AF -D lenses from my film days. I currently have a Nikon D7200 with the 18 - 140 mm VR and 10 - 20 mm VR lenses - both DX. I would have gone FX with the D750 at the time, but it was a bit too high in price. The D610 came out in 2013, but at this price it is tempting.

To be honest I don't why you need D610 if you have D7200 which is an excellent camera. Yes, D610 is full frame and high ISO performance is better but you have 18-140 on your 7200, it has VR and it works very well. You can shoot with 18-140 1/10 sec when you are in low light. Auto focus in D7200 is much better (especially in low light) and max shutter speed is 1/8000 vs 1/4000.
I have both FX and DX. I think if you are primary wide angle and low light shooter than FX makes sense otherwise D7200 with 18-140 and 10-20 can handle almost everything.

I have a Nikon D200 - 10MP. I still use it if the environment might be a problem. The printed 10MP images it creates expand to 8x10 easily and look similar to the higher megapixel images @ 8x10 (same scene different camera). 11x14 is tops for 10MP though.

That being said, the actual resolution limits to 35mm film is around 20MP color and at the high end roughly 45MP B&W (with slow fine grain film). Roughly - your results will vary. For a long time I only saw that equivalent resolution in a 4x5 view camera with a high quality lens. I also saw resolution far beyond that with astronomical glass plates. My point here is that inexpensive ordinary film, especially B&W could capture more detail than digital could until digital hit the 20MP FF mark.

I did several 20x30 prints with D200 with very good\excellent results. These prints were as a birthday present. I asked my friends to look closely and tell me if the image quality was good. Everybody said - it is great, no one complained about sharpness. I still use D200, with good prime it can produce very sharp images. Colors from D200 are my favorite.

I use the Nikon 12-24mm DX and am very happy with it.n

I am another happy user of 12-24mm DX lens. Yes, it's expensive new but you can find good used one for under $350. That's what I did and I am happy with my choice.

I have Canon DPP v4 but I was hoping for something better. I am trying to see if Photoscape X or GIMP might be a better option. I am not ready for Lightroom or Photoshop. I would like a program that process RAW & JPEG.

I appreciate any feedback.

I use often Photoscape X, it is easy and friendly software and if you shoot RAW you can use it to process your RAW images. I think it's one of the easiest programs I used.

I have pro grade lenses for my full frame camera. I would not waste my time putting my DX lenses on that body. My question is specific for the DX lenses on my crop bodies. If I put my 24mm DX lens on my crop body is it the equivalent of 24mm or 36mm?

I didn't know that Nikon makes 24mm DX lens.
