Not bad for a P&S camera, were these done handheld or with a tripod?
I rested the camera on a piling and on a hotel balcony.

Is there a nifty fifty for Nikon?
There are a couple. I have the f/1.8 and there's also an f/1.4 for about double the price.
This is a beautiful bridge at night and the colors from the surrounding buildings really make the blue jump out. Here's a couple from the other side of the river using a Nikon s630 P&S.

It was a little hard focusing while standing on tip toe and holding the branches out of the way! I could have tried auto focus but all the leaves and branches would have made that a "luck of the sensor" shot.
I wanted to get a shot of the babies but Momma was on the nest and I didn't want to disturb her.

Glendalough Monastic site. Beautiful, historic, and photo ops galore!
I usually have the kit 18-105 on my D7100 on the front seat when traveling but keep it and the rest of the bag in the trunk under an insulated blanket when not in use. I also keep a CoolPix s630 P&S handy for just walking around.
I have a D7100 and find the 18-105 kit lens to be a pretty good everyday lens. I live on the edge of a small marsh so I keep my Nikon 80-400 on the tripod for shots from the terrace. I also have a Tamron 90mm macro and a Nikon 50mm f/2.8. This is probably more glass than I need as an amateur but they all have their niche to fill. I would have preferred the Tamron 18-270 as an every day lens but cant justify replacing the 18-105 that came with the D7100.
I didn't exist before my first cup of coffee and daily dose of the HOG but I'm beginning to materialize now - slowly.
I'm not a rust fan but you used it well to tell a story - especially the 5th one. The reflection ad bullet hole spurs imagination.

Yes it tells me you've been reading NRA propaganda.
Facts can be inconvenient sometimes.
Great shots! I just got a Tamron 90mm macro but haven't had a decent chance to use it yet. I'm jealous!
This is my first attempt with my new D7100 for some shots of the moon. I opted not to use the long lens (400mm) and went with the 50mm / 1.8. Here's a couple of shots: The first shot was taken at f16, ISO 800, 25 seconds. The second one was the same except for 8 seconds. They're not the best but for a first crack at it I'm semi-happy.
Thanks for all the quick responses! I was leaning toward Green Heron but the extended neck threw me off. It's great to have such a readily available knowledge base.
I had just taken off my 500mm lens last night, put on my kit lens, and was settling down on the patio for a cocktail when this fellow showed up. At 30 yards he was pretty small so I had to isolate and crop to get a look at him. I know the quality isn't the best but I just want to find out what he is. It appears to be a heron (green?) but the pics in the Nat. Geo. bird book don't look like this one at all. Any idea what he is??
