Hi 'dpullum'... --- Holy Cow, Don.!!!
That's a TRUE-Plethora of INFO.!! -- I DO Believe that you've JUST given me a Rationale for Learning 'Post Production' Techniques.!
--- I took a picture on Sunday of a dear old friend (and simple Parish-Priest), who was celebrating the 65th Anniverary since the day of his Ordination into the RC-Priesthood in 1942. He was standing in front of the Altar and next to him stood Joseph Cardinal Tobin in his brilliant red clerical garb; (The Cardinal had come to honor and pay tribute to this simple 91year old servant of the people). -- I took the 'snap-shot' with the 5MP camera in my little Apple-Ipod-Touch. When I went to crop out ALL but the Priest and Cardinal, the resolution faded; ...hence the interest and request.
---Thanks again, Don.!!!

Indeed the message is the eyes and mouth. The story told in three. Have you tried cropping just under the chin and tight on the right..... just removing the ear.** The mouth is sort of arrow like pointing to the hair on the right which has nothing to do with the story.

WARNING: My name is Don and I am a Cropahallic.... I attend CAA meetings where other people addicted to cropping photo get together to shed our shame!!!

** Once I did a "memorial" photo of a long termed Club member who had ran out of ink the year before... well he had dumbo ears!! so I cut them off and cloned in hair and no one noticed.

Hi 'dpullum'... -- Don, when you and your 'Cropping-Club' get a chance, will y'all address the problem of losing resolution/sharpness in the resultant picture when you 'severely' Crop. -- Isn't there a camera or firmware or PP-program that auto-causes the space between pixels to be 'filled' with what is found in the adjoining pixels.??? ...and wouldn't that solve the Cropping Urge/Dilema for us guys with less populated (viz. MP) sensors.?
Thanks Don

Here are a few WAGs for you to consider:

Shoot at the venue with the BEST lighting.

Experiment during the daylight to see what the slowest shutter speed will give you acceptable results.

Experiment at night to see what the highest ISO value will still give you acceptable results.

Get a FASTER lens!

Get a camera with the best low-light capabilities.

In general, a properly exposed, high ISO photo will 'look better' than a grossly under exposed low ISO photo.

Learn to pan & follow the action for less-blurry subjects & more blurry backgrounds.

Learn to like noise - consider it 'grain' like in older B&W images.

Shoot a LOT of pix, cull for the perfect pic.

Post some of your results.

Good luck!

Hi 'twowindsbear'... --- Of course, if capturing 'the event' is the PRIME Goal {as opposed to: Learning to use your OWN Gear, so as to Capture stills of the Low-Light Action} then I would suggest RENTING a Sony a7S2 and an appropriate-length Sony or C or N or T Zoom Lens; ...Then use the Resultant '12MP-Stills' ...OR: take 'Video', using the a7S2, in order to get 12MP images from a 'VideoPix-App' type program; {which program will allow you to move from individual Frame to Frame, for 'The Perfectly-Timed Still Image' (note: the KEY to achieving CORRECT-Exposure at CORRECT-Shutter-Speed//Aperatire is using the Ultra-High [but No Noise] ISO(s) of the Sony a7S2 camera).!!!

Hi:

My ex and I no longer reside together. My life is safe thank GOD.

Hi 'cgp10019'... -- Just got the following from my 1956 Classmate; thought you might ENJOY.!.!.!
--------
A Florida senior citizen drove his brand new Corvette convertible out of the dealership. Taking off down the road, he pushed it to 80 mph,
enjoying the wind blowing through what little hair he had left.
"Amazing," he thought as he flew down I-95, pushing the pedal even more.

Looking in his rear view mirror, he saw a Florida State Trooper, blue lights flashing and siren blaring. He floored it to 100 mph, then 110,
then 120. Suddenly he thought, "What am I doing? I'm too old for this!" and pulled over to await the trooper's arrival.

Pulling in behind him, the trooper got out of his vehicle and walked up to the Corvette. He looked at his watch, then said, "Sir, my shift ends in 30 minutes. Today is Friday. If you can give me a new reason for speeding--a reason I've never before heard -- I'll let you go."

The old gentleman paused then said: "Three years ago, my wife ran off with a Florida State Trooper. I thought you were bringing her back.

"Have a good day, Sir," replied the trooper.

The a99m2 is a better camera than the a9. The a99m2 43 megapixel with 12 frames per second a mount lenes.
While the a9 is 23 megapixels e mount lens mirrorless.
The features of the a99m2 are now starting to appear on the e mount camera but not the megapixels.
A 99m2 is a full frame mirror mounted camera vs the mirrorless frame camera. Software in the a99m2 will possibly be the same, while the weight and size of the a99m2 is bigger and heavier compared to the new a9. Price for the a9 is around $5200.00 and the a99m2 is $3200.00. Compare the two and then choice. I would purchase the a99m2 over the new Sony a9 anyday

Hi 'band'... -- I 'BELIEVE' that DPR has indicated that the a9 PLUS the New 100-400mm GM Zoom can: "be NOW purchased for $500 more than the bare Nikon D5" ...that means $2800 (a9) & $2500 (100-400mm); ...have to get to MD appt. but I'll try to get you a confirmation later

Note that I was merely answering a Question about 'Speed of Autofocusing' when shooting FAST ACTION in Dim light.

BTW... I don't know anyone who wouldn't WANT an a99m2 for at LEAST static images.
