My son dropped his iPhone 5c. The phone works, but the glass is broken. I can replace the glass itself, for about $10, but it's a difficult job. I can replace the entire screen/glass unit for about $70. As an alternative, he can bring it to a local place that says they can repair it for $110.

Have any of you done this replacement? I've seen videos and articles online, but some people had trouble with the installation, and their phones didn't work afterwards.

If it were my own phone, I'd take a chance and try it myself, but I hesitate working on someone else's phone. Any opinions?

I know the $40 difference in price isn't that much, but I like fixing things myself. He has nine months to go on his current contract, so he'd have to buy a phone outright.

I am the charter member of the CMWG (Castrate Manual Writers Guild). For the most part I consider technical manuals to be the weak spot in everything techy. They are poorly written by people who often don't speak adequate English. They are extremely poorly organized. They love to write using acronyms for everything of any importance without any initial definition. I always get the feeling the author is the high school geek with pocket protector and taped glasses who managed to get one too many wedgies and has yet to find a suitable butt cream. The tech manual is his way of getting even with those of us who have spent our hard earned cash to buy a complicated tool that will enable us to function more effectively but can't seem to find the on/off switch.

I've seen quite a few articles like this lately, and I think they're misleading. Okay, so you can probably get a pallet or two for free - free lumber for your project. That's just the beginning. Since I heat with wood, I accepted the offer of two pallets from a local furniture store. They were built so strongly that I could not take them apart - not with a crowbar and not with a sledge hammer. I needed the chain saw. Whatever wood they use for these things, it's very tough, and they are built to last. It was one thing to burn this wood, but I wouldn't want to use it for a building project. I made a better cart with plywood I had on hand from plans I found online.

If you don't know me, I'm Steve. If you do, you know I'm pretty quiet and don't publically complain too much if ever.

I normally don't see a reason to, you're adults and I doubt I'm going to change your mind, it's typically none of my business and mostly I don't have the time for it.

Mostly I'm upset most people don't respect the Weekly Photo Challenges, but I'm too nice a person to stop doing them for the one's who like them, so I've come to the proverbial fork in the road.

Do I continue running them for the benefit of those who enjoy them and ignore the people who never learned how to read?
Or
Do I walk away from the Weekly Photo Challenges and most likely this forum too?

It's sad to think I've spent three years here dedicating my time to helping others in a way I know how and all I want is for people to read the instructions. Is that really too much to ask?

Beyond that the other Rants are things that bother me, but I know will never change. I'm on a roll today though, so why not? Why not finally say something in the hope someone will actually listen.

Call me crazy if you like. Tell me where the door is, and no it won't hit me on the way out. Say what you like, but I'm tired of putting up with 70 year old children that yell at me because they didn't read the rules.

Why is it so hard to give a little respect?
