If we, the US have some magical methods that permit our medical system to better handle this extremely frightening and contagious virus, then wouldn't it be wiser, safer, more humanitarian, and efficient to export our system to Africa than import the Ebola here?

Let the CDC, and Emory Hospital pack up their whole kit bag, and go to Africa. There the could treat the disease, train the medical care providers, and save hopefully many, instead of potentially saving 2. All this without exposing the US, and telling Africa and its population our two victims are so much more important tnan their dying masses.

A very good idea. But considering the problems Africa is going through, mostly political or religious, and the unwillingness of many people to accept modern day technology, the people and the equipment needed to attain this goal might never get the chance to help the victims of Ebola.

I agree totally with your assesment of the border problem, Cat.
That's a big weak link in our quest for safety.
I do disagree with the containment system argument. Machines fail. What if we lost negative pressure? What if the filtration system failed. Have all of these possiblities been effectively addressed. What about the catastrophic MVA? I just think that the risks out weigh the benefits.

Ebola is not transmitted in aerosol form (particles 1 micron or less). It can be transmitted over a very short range if those particles are >1 micron, such as a sneeze, and generally fall to the ground a short distance away due to the weight.

But that's not true in all cases...in my experience, Fuji camera manuals are written pretty clearly, and they leave little room for unanswered questions.

They aren't perfect but they should be read before asking questions that are plainly found in them.

Spoonfeeding adults is irritating and unnecessary.

The index in most manuals contain categories of everything except what you really want to know. Sometimes it's a matter of word play to find the writer's choice of word that may fit the problem.
Jogging throughout pages to finally get a solution is no fun and time consuming.

If you're a die hard on one particular brand the instructions on a newer model of that brand may not be difficult. If you decide to switch brands without prior experience you may be in for a surprise. The companies can't even agree on what letters to assign for aperture or shutter.
Tech writers have different styles in each company.

You think what you want about Krugman's integrity (i am mystified why you would make a comment like that. Perhaps everyone who disagrees with you is lacking in integrity.) but he is a Nobel Laureate. I'm not. Are you?

Nobel Laureate? Is this the same group of people who award peace prizes to people who never earned them?

That was one of the great things of the 50's kids could work. Had a paper route when I was 9 - cut, racked, and stacked hay when I was 14 - When I was 15 I drove a 5 ton grain truck from the field to the elevator and at 16 I worked on the railraod. It was great. - Dave

The lawyers put a stop to that.

I have a sneaking suspicion that child labor camps would eventually create gangs, such as MS-13 and others, to infect the original intent of these camps.

I've never read or heard of any instance where forcibly making people move into condensed communities ever succeeded. Many of the housing structures of the '60's-up are now being dynamited because they created more crime problems than were envisioned over the years.

Has anyone else stop receiving their UHH email? The settings in my profile are all set to receive email. :?:

I had the same problem several months ago. After contacting UHH I was told all was OK on their side.
For some strange reason I now have to select "all mail"
in the left hand column of my Gmail. This also contains all the ads that were diverted from the regular "in box".
Try this out.
At this time I have no idea how to get UHH back into my regular "in box".

The Mavica was popular with real estate and insurance claims people. They could get all the info on one or two disks and store them easily.

If I remember correctly you could get 15 images on one 3-1/2" floppy with the Mavica.

It was unbelievable that he got it in the first place. As I recall there were at least two candidates who were much better qualified for that honor. :hunf:

The Nobel Peace prize started losing its credibility years ago when it became a political award given to the person who best exemplified the criteria of the NPP judges.
It follows the same pattern of the Oscar awards.

I bought this horrible little thing...it was so slow to process the image...tried it out doing some motor sport and even while panning with the car, it quite often only captured the back end...had my first DSLR with me the same day and every time I pressed the shutter I got the car dead centre, it was heaps faster...
The Olympus (3MP) was about $450...gave it to the kid across the road in disgust...

The wife and I bought a C-720 for our cruise to Alaska in 2003. Bought it from Broadway Camera in NY for about $400. It used 4 MiMh AA batteries and Smart Media cards; the largest available being 256mb. At 3.2mp the camera gave acceptable pictures, given the available technology at the time.
My brother bought a C-730 which had an additional slot for the newer SD cards and video sound.
I still have that old(?) camera and the original box.
If I remember right some of the advertised 10mp cameras were priced into 5 figures at the time.
