early digitals.
I bought my first digital, a Sony cyber shot 6x 1.3mp. it cost $600.00 around 2002. how many of you remember spending $500.00 or more for less than 4mp's?????

My first digital was a Panasonic with 1.3 megapixels. It took decent pix, but had to anticipate any movement or it would come out blurry. I now have a Nikon D200 and am still figuring it out.

Kodak DSC7500, 1.3MP, 5X zoom lens, water resistant, almost no shutter lag, $599.95 and was about the size of a D5200 with 18-55mm lens today. But it produced wonderful images that at 8x12 print size looked as good as my D1H prints.
I passed it on to my sister who left it in Elk hunting camp at 10,000 feet in the Beartooth mountains, it did not survive the winter alone up there (but the images on the 256MB CF card did). We gave it a fitting send off, its still buried in one of her corrals somewhere.

My first digital camera was a Nikon Coolpix 950, purchased in mid 2000 (to the best of my recollection). Pardees had the 990 and had discounted the 950. I had the camera for about 2-3 months before it was stolen from my car. It was finally recovered after about a month, but, having never been impressed with its images, I traded it in for a deal that eventually resulted in the acquisition of one NIB F4S and another one in a kit. I don't remember how much the 950 cost, but the trade-in covered the NIB F4S, a 50mm f/1.8 and an 85 f/1.8. The second F4S had a 28 mm f/?? And a couple of Tamron early (read BIG) zooms. I didn't buy another digital camera until my D70 around 2005. The 2mpx 950 was an interesting camera, puechased with a bracket flash and cord, but I was very disappointed in the picture quality.
I remember and even had one before that....the Sony Mavica was nowhere near 1 mp and would write to a small floppy disk which was inserted and served as the "memory card". I still kept the film camera in those days (1998 ish) as resolution with digital cameras was not very good.

DSC-F1 (1996, 0.3 megapixels, 35 mm equivalent lens, no zoom, 1/3-inch sensor)
At that time I had (and still have Nikon 6006 film camera) This was my first digital camera and I paid over $700.00 for it. Used it till the battery went south and that was it because Sony left all the people that bought this camera Out to dry when they stopped making the battery and you could not get them anywhere. After that I went with Olympus D-460 1.3Mp.
I don't remember the cost. TNmike
I had the original Canon 1D which was a 4MP DSLR and cost $5,500 just for the body.
I also had the original 3MP Canon G1 P&S in 2001, it cost close to $900 if I remember correctly.
Somewhere around here I still have a 'compact' Canon A10 P&S from back around the same time, which is a 1.3 MP camera with virtually no manual settings. You can't even choose an ISO and the top quality jpeg produced around a 250KB image file. You could get a 4x6 print out of it and the images in general were actually pretty decent.

I think my first was an Olympus C500L and had 0.8MP.
I paid $899 for an Olympus 1.2 mp. It used a very large size memory card that held 256 mg. I dearly loved that camera and would still be happily using it if that card had not conked! Photos were sharp as a tack and beautiful color.

i had a kodak, don't remember the model number, but it used floppy disks to store the images
Mine was an Olympus C4000, 4MP, 3x optical zoom, probably cost close to $400 new.

I bought this horrible little thing...it was so slow to process the image...tried it out doing some motor sport and even while panning with the car, it quite often only captured the back end...had my first DSLR with me the same day and every time I pressed the shutter I got the car dead centre, it was heaps faster...
The Olympus (3MP) was about $450...gave it to the kid across the road in disgust...
