They had a short but interesting history.
Killed by Wells Fargo, btw.

Yeah Harry 02, we know what happened. Great bit of history while it lasted though.

The Pony Express is alive and well here in the Apache Junction Area.

Although the actual Pony Express only lasted for a year, the re-creations of their run still resound around Arizona and the SHA (Superstition Horsemen's Association) pay tribute to those brave riders each year by making a mail run through the streets, back roads and trails of our town.

Mayor Chip Wilson and his horse ran the first leg by picking up the mail sacks at the City Hall at 10:00am and handing them off to the next rider at the Shopping Center. This was repeated with different riders for all 26 legs of the mail run, and finishing at the Hitching Post Saloon on the famed Apache Trail. The mail bag and its contents were then delivered to the US Post Office for delivery to the recipients with the cancellation stamped on the back.

A special post card was printed up from a picture taken at a previous run at the Rodeo Grounds that I had made up the previous year. The post cards were sold for $5.00 and the profits from the sales ($1,000) were donated to the local Children's Fund.

The pictures show a typical handoff at the Superstition Mountain Museum and again at the Goldfield Ghost Town. Shore don't get boring round here.

Since I'm a Volunteer at the Superstition Mountain Museum, I get to attend these special events at no cost. All of my photos are then edited and donated to the Museum for their usage.

This event was a fundraiser for the non-profit Museum and featured a Mariachi Band, playing instruments and singing. The day was cloudy and threatening, but rain was not in the forecast (yeah sure). The attendees were eating the prepared meal and snapping shots with their cellphone cameras, as I wandered around shooting the band and the scenery.

During the meal, a rainbow appeared, very light at first but quickly intensifying as it moved above Superstition Mountain in the background.

1) I kept snapping shots and managed to capture the one posted here, with the band still playing and oblivious to what was going on behind them.

2) The second shot was taken as the rainbow was fading and appears to have its base on the ridgeline, just a short distance from where I was standing (no, I wasn't able to locate the pot of gold).

3) The final shot was taken as the rainbow was behind the Wickiups (Apache Village) and above the Mountain in the background.

And then, as a finale, the rains began. Everyone quickly ran for the coverage of the roof-covered patio where the band re-assembled and continued playing.

Several types of transportation that people have used at one time or another.

I remember stories about those old tracked cars, they were used by the Post Office to deliver mail in the rural areas. I've seen pictures of them but never the real ones.

I redid an old photo and added the Adamski Effect to it.

Well, it isn't really that old, it was an old-time baseball league. They use 1900 equipment, except for the catcher, who uses 1930 equipment.

Excellent snap of the photo and great time to use the effect.

It started snowing this morning - about 5 inches on the deck railing and within a few minutes I looked back outside and YUK...the wind is just howling. We are going to have some drifts in the driveway come morning!

Yup! I still say that the best day of my life was when I sold my snowblower and chainsaw and moved to Arizona (From Minnesota).
