We went with friends in 1987 and backpacked for a week there -- Waimea Canyon, Napali Coast, Alakai Swamp -- it was gorgeous. I am so looking forward to seeing it again :-)

Make sure you cover the southern area. Look for monk seals on the beach. They are dying out so you aren't suppose to bother them but you can get close enough to get some great photos. If you are in Poipu be sure to get a puka dog! They are featured on a PBS special about hot dogs. Don't miss the " grand canyon of the west."

Have a great trip and be sure to post pics when you return.

I did search "video rental on Kauai" and it told me where to rent videos and DVD's. I want to rent a video camera . . . we have borrowed our son's camera, but it is big and bulky and requires recording to 8mm tape and then transferring it to VHS. Was hoping to rent a camera that has newer technology and not have to lug son's camera to Kauai and back. I only need it for one day of the 7-day trip.

We will be staying at Princeville. Thanks for your input, Vern.

Howdy......
Do a google search on VIDEO RENTAL ON KAUAI and you will have several options.
I was there last April for 10 days and had a great time.
What city will you be in? We stayed in Kappa (my youngest son lives there)

Is it possible to rent a video camera on Kauai, and if so, can you recommend a store? Thank you!

I don't disagree with you, Jerry, but unfortunately, today there are a lot of people who think it's perfectly acceptable to pirate software, music CD's, etc. Only one wristwatch, but many potential software installations. Adobe takes every precaution it can to make sure it is compensated for its work, and therefore we enjoy a relatively low price for the capability we receive from the software. Those of us who try to do things legally are penalized because of the pirates out there, and that's nothing new.

Why are you selling them, if you don't mind my asking.

I have found youtube to be a hit and miss proposition. Some videos are much better than others. I am a speed reader and like it that I can zero in on what I need to know in a print book, rather than sit through the ads and other distractions while waiting for the person on youtube to get to the point. All that said, is there a person on youtube that you would recommend as a good resource? Thanks for your input.

I often find it easier to watch rather than read about but the only problem is you do not have the reference material in front of you. There are loads of great Photoshop RAW tutorials on youtube and the likes. In fact there are tutorials on there for everything you can imagine. Some better than others.

Starting to shoot in raw and I would like a better understanding of raw PP. Been looking at Ben Long's book, Getting Started With Camera Raw. I have Elements 9 and Capture NX2. May buy Adobe Lightroom, but don't ever think I will have a need for Photoshop CS.

So would you recommend Ben Long's book, or is there a better resource? THanks!

So does mine -- perhaps you should check with Adobe . . .

I don't understand, my elements 9 allows installation on two computers. Example my laptop, and my desktop.

Did you visit Crazy Horse too? I'd love to see a picture of what that looks like these days.

I've been there -- it's an amazing place, isn't it. I'll look forward to seeing your posts about it.

I'm getting all next week off and due to my wifes 24hr EMT schedule, she'll be off also!! Yay....

I've got tickets for the Creation Museum in Petersburg, KY and can't wait to take some photos....

I'm pretty sure that I'll end up using my 24mm f/1.8 and my 50mm f/1.4 most of the time as it's inside and probably fairly tight quarters as I recall (I was there once a long time ago)

My wife has never been there so she's pretty excited...we haven't gone many places in the last few years, with our schedules and all that has to get done around here...this will be nice. We are planning on staying two days. (if we stay longer the puggies will starve to death)

For those who have never heard of the Creation Museum:

You can find used ones on Craigslist, if you care to take your chances. I bought a Barnes & Noble Nook Color and bought an N2A SD card for it. It gives me a dual boot e-reader. When I boot to Android, I have the Kindle App and the Nook App, as well as a host of other features.

I spent a lot of time trying to resolve this problem. Merlin, I never did find the version you specified, but what I downloaded seems to be working.

Thanks to both of you for your help.
