I'm not sure what SD memory cards all of you are using but I found a ridiculous price on the Transcend 64GB V90 cards here ($34):

https://rfshooters.com/blog/cameras/canon-r7/memory-cards/

I usually configure my dual slot cameras to have images copied to both cards as a backup so if a card fails then I still have a copy of my images. So no risk if a inexpensive card fails...

I recently purchased the R7 a week before going on a cruise around Europe. I took 6,000 shots with it and it never missed a beat. I found the eye tracking was absolutely spot on both for people and animals.
No problems at all using the 600EX flash either.
But (as with just about every piece of any type of kit) I am also annoyed that the viewfinder shuts off after a couple of seconds. Our last trip was to spot dolphins off Gibraltar. Very fast creatures and totally unpredictable as we know but the camera coped superbly at 30fps with the eye tracker tracking the dolphin's blow hole on the head.
Many shots taken but only when the viewfinder was reactivated.
I have tried every setting in the power saving menu and NOTHING stops the viewfinder from shutting off.
Perhaps I should have used my trusty 5DIII?

I found an article that suggested the display performance should be set to "smooth" if shooting action..

Shooting Menu 9: Disp performance: If you’re shooting action you’ll want to change this to smooth but power saver is great for travel photographers and most shooters.

Thanks to all who have responded. I haven't seen anyone on youtube mention the issue regarding the view finder issue. I'll research this some more.

An interesting article I found regarding the sharpest images possible is below. Hopefully we can keep this thread going and will be a great reference for everyone!

I have the R7. I waited a long time for this camera as I had a specific set of parameters.
IBIS and ability to use all my curret lenses, R, FL, FD and EF.
It does this perfectly, as I have shown in recent gallery posts.
As to the flash it works just fine with older EX flashes with NO adapter required. For some reason only the last couple of EX MII and 6xx series need an adapter but my 580EX doesn't need one.
So far no regrets.
The AF is amazing even with the 100-400mm MII and 2X MIII performing instantly and accurately on the eye if desired.
If APSC is what you want (As that is exactly what I wanted) nothing right now even comes close.
I also love the IQ/resolution which is equivalent to a 800mp+ FF camera.
It works well in low light as well, here in a dimly lit coal mine example and the slow 10-18mm lens. It was poorly lit. About 1/4 second exposure handheld. About 3200 ISO.
Go for it and have fun.

Thanks, this is helpful.. I use godox flashes so I'll have to investigate how to adapt them if necessary. I'm looking for reasonable memory cards to use with this. I also have that lens.

????? I'm using the same flash (550EX) I used on my XT, T2i, and then 80D. It still has all the functionality it always had.

As far as the R7 goes, the only thing I don't like is that the viewfinder turns off after a minute or so and if you are waiting for the perfect moment to shoot, you have to re-touch the focus/shoot button to get it back on. They do this because unlike on a DSLR, the viewfinder uses batteries. Otherwise, it is a great camera.

I found this menu regarding display power settings. Let me know if it works? Thanks for the info…

I have an R7 and an R5. I think the R7 is a fantastic camera.

The only downside is that it requires a different flash. There is an adapter that allows the use of any Canon mount flashes. The slash mount shoe doesn't have the traditional contact arrangement. Instead it has a contact point at the front of the shoe.

30 megapixels in an APS C sensor is a great achievement and I like that my RF lenses are 1.6 times more telephoto on the R7. That makes it great for wildlife and sports photography.

So I’m about to pull the trigger on the R7. I’m very aware of its pros and cons. That being said is anyone having regrets after using this camera in real life usage or have any helpful advice?

Thanks in advance!

I have to agree with Longshadow. For VACATION photos, I keep as many as make me smile and bring back fond memories. When shooting my events of choice, it will be in the 5-10% range. The low end when shooting for organizations and teams. The higher end if it is an event I know will carry additional interest say for friends and family members. But as you specified vacation, I let my emotions determine how many!

I take many photos at my family and extended family functions throughout the year as a hobby. This sometimes reaches close to 1000 photos for a whole day's event. After the event I process the photos, store the best ones in Amazon Photos for sharing and then share the link to all members possible (through email)

I acquired Photo Mechanic and use the process described in the video below. It's a great time saver for me and helps me to only keep the best of the best...

So I watched the video below and gained an interest in possibly DIY mounting my photos on Dibond as mentioned in the video. I realize there are companies which do this with your photo but I am interested in knowing if anyone here has done this themselves? Seems like you can buy the Dibond but I can't find anywhere online describing exactly how to do it yourself.

Basically what adhesive to use to mount the printed photo to the aluminum dibond and what preparation to use ... Thanks for your comments in advance!

I recommend Luminar Neo. You can buy a lifetime license (non-subscription) which you own or a subscription which gives you all the extensions. It's difficult to find the lifetime license but you can find it here:

I also own On1 2023 and recommend it as well..

I am just starting to use ON1 Photo RAW 2023, and am wondering if there is material available that describes in detail the various functions available, similar to Adobe’s Classroom in a Book series. I am considering Scott Davenport’s book, which seems to cover all the details. There also appear to be many video tutorials showing usage of various functions, but I am looking for a reference to explain in detail what functions are available and why they would be used. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I am using a 27" iMac, and have migrated from Lightroom. My usage is only as an enjoyable hobby - family photos and landscapes using a Sony RX10 IV.

Thinking of upgrading to this iPone. Anyone use this as a travel camera? Any experiences to share?

I am starting to feel the weight of the D850 and the Zeiss glass so anything anyone would like to share would be much appreciated. Thanks in advance.

See the link below, I have this phone (iphone pro max) and take photos when it suits my needs and when I don't have my main camera with me. It takes really satisfying photos!
