I don’t think it really matters in the grand scheme of things. Some will choose to use the very best, most capable cellphone cameras money will buy, others will still use their DSLRs and enjoy the results, and still others will love and use their mirrorless cameras. And there will be those who use both a cellphone camera and another dedicated type of camera. There will always be progress and technology will continue to advance, some will flow with it and some will be content with what they have. I just don’t see a real issue here. Oh, and whatever it is that the current crop of cellphone cameras can’t do or do well, such as BIF’s, wildlife, etc., will likely be addressed in the future and overcome.

Wingpilot, I think you're on to something, well at least I'm thinking the same way you are.

Not all I need but at rehearsal, the phone is shut off and turns into a camera. It keeps me from lugging a scanner to practice. Grabbing my DSLR would not be very convenient. There are numerous other solutions out there like scan->pdf apps. This was just a quick jpg edit with Windows Photos. I agree. One key feature of even a cheap smart phone camera is convenience.

I love my iPhone but prefer using my Canon R6 for photography. The iPhone is great for turning paper lead sheets into PDF that I use on my tablet. For me as a part time musician it's been the "goose that laid the golden egg." I would never give up my mirrorless or dedicated cameras.

Nice photos, very creative! What type of phone did you use?

The second and third photos remind me of the wild mushrooms my grandfather used to pick after the rains. He'd disappear into the woods to pick them, he also had a secret spot that he never let anyone know about. He brought back at least a half bushel ofthem back home. After cleaning them he would cook and freeze them, then at some point my grandmother would cook them along with Italian sausage which she and my grandfather made from scratch. It was mighty fine eating. This was back in the late 1950s and into the mid-60s. Some family members would not eat them out of fear of getting poisoned, I was a kid then and ate them. Fast forward to today I don't think I'd eat wild mushrooms.

I hear you.

just to clarify, I do have the pro but not the max. I didn't see the need for me to have a bigger screen.

I have since sold my Epson wide format printer and pretty much retired from that end of things. if I did print something that large, I don't know what I would do with it. I have a pie of metal prints I still need to sell.
But I may pick one someday and have it printed 24x36 to satisfy my curiosity.

Like you, I would normally use my D850 or Z9.

The iPhone is satisfying my need for taking snapshots of things I will never enlarge to try and sell.
steveo52 br I hear you. br br just to clarify, I ... (show quote)

Thanks for the clarification Coolhanduke. I'm on the same page as you I have a large print but it's just sits in the packaging once I took a look at it. Printing the photo out was just out of curiosity. If you do have a 24x36 print made I'd like to hear how it looks.

Nice set the iPhone 14 Pro Max does a nice job. I have the iPhone 14 I had a discussion with a friend on how shots would look on a 20 x30 size the size I use for wall-worthy photos.

Coolhanduke, I did a test and shot in raw, then exported the file into Lightroom. I did my usual upload to Walgreen's photo where I usually have enlargements done on wood. This time around I had it printed on paper for $16 vs wood. Based on the results I would not hesitate to order a 20x30 photo taken with the iPhone 14 on wood for hanging on a wall. The bottom line though is if I'm looking to use a photo for the wall I would use my Canon R6.

It could be a big story. In the current political climate, the networks would not miss the chance to sell a lot of ads on nightly news.

Never underestimate the power of using emotional fear mongering and controversy to sell advertising, cultural affiliation, religious affiliation, racial identification, nationalism, or any other -ism. Anything that raises cortisol levels makes for great television viewership. Never underestimate how often your thoughts are being manipulated by institutions of all types for their financial gain.

The first rule of sales is to create a harm, a problem to solve, an enemy to defeat, a "team" to join, or a challenge to be overcome. Never mind whether it is real or not, significant or not, true or false. If it is believable, it can be a money maker. A third of the population will probably believe anything if you say it with conviction often enough. Another third or so will think it's ridiculous. The other third doesn't care or pay attention, or has something else to do...

Very well stated, you are spot in with your observations, at least in my opinion.

I agree completely. When I was a young'un in parochial school, the good nuns taught us to bow our head whenever we said or heard the name Jesus. I've continued that practice to this day. It is especially relevant when someone either in person or on TV uses the name Jesus irreverently. Even I've been guilty on occasion, such as when I might hammer a nail and miss the nail but accidentally hit my finger. Without thinking, I might then scream the name of Jesus irreverently, then realize what I've just said, and bow my head and add on a little prayer to Our Lord.

I was taught the same thing in parochial school. Yup and I too have used the name of Jesus irreverently.

Is the photo out of the canon a raw photo and the one from the Iphone a jpeg that has been processed ? If so, its not a equal comparison. I am not very experienced so I could be totally wrong.

No the photo was a jpeg right out of the camera. My experiment was not a good one.

These are great images and the 13 Pro Max is so good that to improve the 14 was not an easy task.
