Did anyone see The Discovery Channel's show about the last known photo of President Abraham Lincoln on his death bed. The photo was an "amber type" done by two brothers just before Lincoln passed, and the whole show revolved around this lady investigator trying to authenticate the photo. A very interesting show. You should still be able to find it in the Discovery channel listings.
It is called an "Ambrotype" and the recently deceased or currently dying were frequent subjects.
Take a drive to Marathon. Check out the Gage Hotel. There is some beautifully preserved Texas history there. If you are there around the time of the new moon the night sky is awesome.

I have a GX85 Panasonic camera. Are there any adapters made for it that would allow me to shoot with any vintage lenses? Maybe it may have to be an adapter for a Olympis M34rds; since the Olympus lenses can be used on the Panasonic bodies?
Hi Bob. Try these guys. I have bought their adapters for my Panasonic G9. They are not the cheapest, but the quality is better.
That's good to know All enclusive Here, in Palm Beach Gardens, we have "every denomination" ......Nikonos, Canonista, Holy Sony Glockomolie, even "offshoots" like Lica-costra-nostra, even some fuji-chop-fuffy
The problem is they don't always arrive at the same time. Often age arrives first and we get a few knocks and bruises before the wisdom arrives.
My Pennsylvania Dutch grandmother had a crochet sign on her kitchen wall. "Ve get too soon olt, unt too late schmart". I didn't really get it until recently when I over-hiked while alone and didn't know how I was going to get back to my car.
An amateur takes crappy photos with cheap equipment An enthusiast takes somewhat better photos with expensive equipment A professional is paid to take photos
I got a couple of cheap camera bags from ebay. One holds my 12 lenses, the other holds my 3 bodies. I put each lens in an old gym sock (old enough so that they are no longer lint-donors). I labeled each compartment so that I will know which lens is in the sock. Both bags sit in the corner of my closet awaiting inspiration. I spent less than 50 bucks on the whole deal.
I set my camera to capture both RAW and JPEG. When I get a shot that I really like, I will spend some time adjusting the RAW file. For the rest, JPEG is just fine. I save the RAW files and dig them out whenever I come across a nice Lightroom preset that would seem to suit that image.
Visit distrowatch.com The site might be a bit overwhelming at first but once you select a distribution, you can drill down to see which software is included in the package. Most will have Gimp by default. Most do not have Darktable but a quick visit to darktable.org can help with that. I am currently using Mint and I recommend it to people who are switching from Windows. The user interface makes the transition easy. As somebody else mentioned, you might try a distribution that can run off of a USB drive before leaving Windows.
