Hold my beer. Biden will take California, they’d elect a squid if it had a D behind its name. You’ve proved the value of the Electoral College.

Im reminded of the rules for building federal buildings. All had to have a fireplace per a formula by square footage. Key West has a federal building wit lots of fireplaces. In a subtropical climate. Brilliant. The squabbling you decry doesn’t happen between the states, the states quarrel with an overburdening and punitive federal government. If there was an attempt by the federal government to eliminate there would be 50 countries. The civil war, perhaps you’ve heard of it, was fought over states rights. The issue that sparked the issue was slavery. You are correct that citizens desire autonomy and freedom. If you have a shred of evidence based on actual facts that there is a chance of a dictator running the Us you need to share it. That’s just delusional. We do have a feckless administrator who is allowing unfettered invasion of unvented illegal aliens but he’s not a dictator, just an adalpated old fool who won’t even debate his potential. opponent. Say the name Lanken Riley out loud a few times. How does NZ deal with illegal immigration?

You may. Note that I am away on holiday shortly so replies may be sporadic for a couple of weeks.

I’m leaving too. Mexico, Costa Rico, Panama, Columbia and Cozumel on a Viking cruise for 18 days. Obviously not a very cultural exploration but we have to spend the kids inheritance some how.

Not a lodging suggestion but try to get a Wild Goose Island sunrise. It is nearer the eastern entrance though!

When I worke there on summer I was told that it was the most photographed place in the Americas. I doubt that is true but surly has to be one of them. Scenic beauty at its best. Most people are there mid day and the photos are ok but yours is spectacular.

I think the MAIN reason you see the Flat Earth, moon landing hoax, and many other Youtube videos is money. There are a few people who really believe these but I suspect most of the videos are for generating clicks and therefore money.

Each click on the video sends the one who posts it a little paycheck from the advertisers. That is also why you see so many videos on "free energy" or perpetual motion machines. There are dozens of videos claiming that you can make your own energy using an electric motor and a generator. These machines have been proven over and over to be false but they keep posting them because people keep clicking on them. These are much like the "secret" carburetor myth that has circulated for decades that allows one to get hundreds of miles per gallon but the auto industry has kept them hidden away from the general public. Other popular clickable subjects include the Karens, people failing at something, or getting arrested and making total fools of themselves.

These "scammers" have learned that the general public will click on anything that offers them something free, controversial, or titillating.

All these are just a few of the less desirable "gifts" of social media and the internet.

But it is debatable whether it is working for you. And it is a waste of time. When observed from the outside. Americans are very insular and just hate criticism. I note in passing that Karens seemed to have started in the USA.
It should be compulsory that every US citizen is forced to take at least one trip overseas to see reality.

I am very interested to hear whet you have to say. Can I PM you to continue the conversation?

Here are a few images from the Flathead Valley region, it is quite a drive from Glacier NP to the Bison Range and seeing the Mission Range but well worth it if one has the time in a Glacier NP visit,

Nice photos. Quite a beautiful drive to the bison range.

... and the US primaries for candidate selection are a massive waste of time and money. In the parliamentary systems, you vote for a party and it's platform. The party picks the leaders/candidates and can change leader at any time. Every vote counts, minor parties can take their votes to the party most sympathetic to their wishes. And ... an election can be held in 8-12 weeks. Constantly getting ready for an election every two years out is mind-numbingly tedious.

We are accustomed to our system and it works for us. We don’t find it a waste of time. You feel the same about yours. We have a two party system yours isn’t. I don’t have the chutzpah to say yours are wrong. But I don’t have any “ dog in that fight.”

I did read somewhere that that ONE man said whatever was proposed to help at the border he wouldn't vote for it. But he also won't suggest what he considers is an acceptable solution for the border problem. The problem with having a religious position is that it should not give you the right to force 350m other people to take your view. How you stop religion from creeping into your politics I don't know.
That is what happens in Iran and you Americans hate it. I think I know who you would vote for. God help America because you need it.

The border issue exploded when the executive orders from the previous administrations stay in Mexico policy along with following the laws in existence created the lowest number of illegal entries. Presidents Clinton and Obama both spoke out against illegal entry and promoting securing the border.
I wouldn’t expect you to read our entire constitution but the bill of rights (the first 10 amendments) are important reading if you want to consider the difference between establishment of religion and religious freedom. I don’t see any evidence that anybody wants to create a theocracy like Iran. Yes we do not believe a religious view should be forced down our throat. It’s in our DNA as they say. It was so important that when they wrote the bill of rights they put it first, along with freedom of speech. They learned from England what a corrosive effect that had on a country. What is your source of information about our country? It’s almost like MSNBC talking points with a twist of leftist ideology mixed in.

Love it! Great retort. (Carbonation and flat). I love British humour, it's based on education and gentle put-downs. As always, you need 3 people for a good joke.

The teller, the one who understands it, and the one that has no clue. I fear that the colonies have a preponderance of no clueists.

While the flat earth folks exist in every country and on every continent they are such a small minority as to be statically non existent. I would doubt that anybody you know actually knows anybody above the age of 10 that believes the earth is flat. The internet is an amplifier. It is insulting that you think that “the colonies” have a preponderance of, as you call it, no clue it’s. I think the joke may be on you in this instance. And British humor is as funny as it gets. Monty Python skits are national treasures and Ricky Gervais has to be one of the funniest men alive.

I can't answer most of what you ask because it would be straight for the attic. You have got ONE man stopping further aid to Ukraine with ridiculous reasons (and reasons that are so stupid as to be verging on blackmail for another SINGLE man). An American politician who claims religious beliefs and pushes those is the biggest hypocrite of them all. You are already 1/4 the way to a dictatorship in effect at the moment.
New Zealand does not have the resources to help Ukraine. We may well be the same size as California but only have a fraction of the income. And California is struggling anyway as are we.

The average American has no problem demanding we mind our border before sending money to Ukraine to mind their border. You can only imagine how New Zealanders would react to an invasion of un-veted aliens by the thousands per day. The beauty of the United States is that you can have a religious position and share it. I’m not religious but respect those that are. The same amendment, the First also prevents the establishment of a state religion. Two for the price of one. If you believe you must not hold religious conviction the issue is yours, not the constitution.

There is some truth in that I guess. BUT your system stands to lose all credibility between now and November around the world for the next 20 years (my opinion only, time will tell) whereas mine won't. All caused by a truly weird voting system that has all the bits in place to allow your country to descend into a dictatorship or to allow single individuals to dictate their own individual ideas and allow them to go against the majority. Your constitution needs a few tweaks to prevent this from happening again. A system designed 237 years ago can not be expected to still be current in modern times. Dammit I hear attic doors creaking again.

How is our voting system weird? How can a dictator emerge? Going against the majority is going on right now and has resulted in a border crisis because the current administration refuses to follow laws already in existence going against the majority. Larkin Riley died because of that. What tweaks do you propose for the constitution? The age of the constitution is irrelevant. The way the current administration defies the constitution and the Supreme Court to buy votes by making taxpayers pay off the loans of students who won’t. New Zealand is about the size of California. Even the latitude coincide, with Mexico as the terminus toward the equator and Oregon on the end closest to the pole. We have 49 more states. Several larger than California. As to international reputation how much has NZ paid to help Ukraine?

Well guess what, it’s already here! Welcome to California. Our socialist legislature already passed a bill that will allow different rates based on income so those that have can support those that allegedly don’t. We already have the highest rates in the country. In my neighborhood people pay $600-$1000 per month for energy.
